Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 153: Mikhail did it again
Audrey felt sweat break out on her forehead. ’Why did Mikhail have no filter?!’ She thought anxiously, she slowly turned to Lake and saw him staring intently at Mikhail.
’Oh no, please, don’t feel anything,’ Audrey muttered within her.
Lake had gone mute the moment the boy spoke; he started to quietly observe the boy.
He tried to see the similarities on the boy’s face, but the moment he wanted to target a particular feature, his head just made him start afresh. All he knew was that Mikhail was a handsome boy with the beautiful eyes of his mother.
Leon, on the other hand, didn’t even care to look; he was scared he might see the resemblance if he went looking.
"Don’t say such things, Mikhail; you might offend the visitor," Leon came over and lifted Mikhail, carrying him away from Lake’s View.
"But, Papa, that’s true, I do look like him," Mikhail whispered sadly.
Audrey was secretly thankful to Leon for carrying the boy away, she had been so frozen to speak or act. Selena was really right; she had to step back, or she’d get burned.
She sighed and faced Lake, "Lake... I mean, Mr. Aloha, um, I’d like to apologize, just as Leon said, I know you might be offended by my son’s outspokenness, but please, he’s just a kid, do not take it to heart," Audrey spoke softly, keeping her face neutral and hoping he doesn’t see the way her heart was beating in anxiety.
Lake remained quiet, staring at Audrey for a while, "I’m not offended, Ms. Audrey," He finally replied.
"Oh, thank you. You’re such a kind man, I’m very-"
"I’m not offended because I feel like he said the truth," Lake frowned.
Audrey started to panic again. "You do! Um, you do?" She asked in a lower tone.
What the hell does he mean by he felt Mikhail was telling the truth?
"Yes, just that, just like how I feel each time I’m near you, I can’t really figure it out, but within me, I kind of like the fact that he looks like me," Lake answered truthfully.
Audrey quickly moved her face away to the other side, sniffing her nose and blinking rapidly to keep her tears from falling.
She couldn’t stand the vulnerability she saw and heard from Lake. He sounded and looked so confused and lost as he tried to make sense of those lingering feelings he felt, and she felt bad for trying to dissuade him from things he felt to be the truth.
He looked like a lost kid waiting patiently for an adult to find him, and in this case, she was the adult, and she knew she wasn’t planning to go find him.
"Don’t think too much about what kids say; they could cause migraine; trust me, I’ve felt that way plenty of times," She replied with a bright smile.
"Okay, if you say so..." He paused, staring meaningfully at her.
Audrey shifted on the chair, feeling his gaze on her.
"Any problem, Mr. Aloha?" She questioned.
"Leon," He replied simply.
"What? Leon is your problem?" Audrey asked in disbelief.
Lake narrowed his eyes and shifted toward her, but he made sure not to get too close and cause her discomfort.
"Why does Mikhail call him Papa? Is he your husband? Boyfriend? Friends with benefits? Or did you have a one-time affair with him that led to Mikhail?" Lake asked seriously, his eyes pinning Audrey down to detect any lies.
Audrey almost choked on her spit, "What?! No! No, nothing like that, none of the above. Leon’s just my very good friend, nothing else," She waved her hands before her in denial.
Lake felt some kind of peace hearing her answer, but one thing still bothered him: Audrey might not want anything to do with Leon, but Leon sure did want many things to do with Audrey, and it disturbed him for reasons he couldn’t pin down.
"That’s good, but does he know that?" He asked quietly.
"Huh?" Audrey asked, tilting her head to the side.
"Does he know he’s just a friend to you?" He asked pointedly.
Audrey paused, suddenly realizing why Lake was questioning her this way.
Just like Selena said, he wasn’t supposed to feel jealous or possessive toward her but he did. He was jealous of Leon, jealous of the way he interacted with Mikhail. That was why he was asking all these questions.
But how does she answer him now? He might detect her lie if she said that Leon was aware he was and would remain just a friend to her.
That would be a lie, because, till tomorrow, Leon was still hoping she’ll give him a chance.
"Um, I..."
"Food is ready, Lake, please join us in the dining," Isabella announced beside them.
Audrey, excited and happy to be saved from having to explain her situation, stood from the sofa and smiled down at Lake. "Please, join us, Lake," She invited.
Lake nodded and stood too, "I’d love to," He replied.
In the dining, Leon had placed Mikhail on his chair beside Audrey’s at the head of the table, then lowered himself to the other side of the table, still beside Audrey. When he saw Lake walking in with Audrey, he sent him a victorious look, smirking secretly at him.
Lake saw Leon sitting beside the head of the table and frowned. He didn’t like the fact that the guy acted as if he owned the house, maybe it was time he put him in place.
Now that he had confirmed that he meant nothing to Audrey and her Son; he couldn’t wait to show him what domination meant.
Leon thought that Lake would have gone to sit near Mikhail and try to make the boy chat with him, but, his eyes widened as Lake simply went over to the other end of the table and sat down.
Learn was speechless, he immediately turned toward Audrey and saw her staring at Lake in shock, he thought that after her shock, she’d ask him to leave the head of the table but she surprised him by smiling and lowering herself on her chair, now, it looked like husband and wife sitting at a table, while he was just the visitor sitting on the side.
"Audrey, I know you’re trying to be professional because this man had promised to do business with you, but he’s taking too much. Look how he’s sitting at the other end of the table," Leon spoke so Lake could hear him.
Audrey sighed; she raised her hand and patted Leon’s shoulder, "It’s just for today, he won’t be here again, let him be," She smiled at him.
Leon slowly turned to Lake who was sitting casually at the head of the table.
"It’s for the best if he doesn’t return, Audrey; I know what I’m talking about," Leon quietly told Audrey.
Audrey paused her lips and nodded, "Thanks for always caring Leon," She replied.
"Moma?" Mikhail called quietly.
Audrey turned her face to him, "Yes, baby."
Mikhail looked toward Lake, then back at his mother, giving her the puppy dog’s eyes.
She sighed, knowing what he wanted without him even asking.
"Alright, baby, but promise to behave," She pointed at him.
Mikhail nodded, smiling.
"I promise, Moma," He replied, jumped down from his chair, and quickly ran to Lake.
"Can I sit beside you?" He asked politely, wanting to please his mother with his good manners.
"Sure," Lake immediately stood and shifted a chair close to his and then carried Mikhail onto the chair.
Now, both father and son sat at the head of the table, with the mother at the other end.
Leon was outraged, "Audrey? You let him go?"
Audrey frowned, "Should I not?" She asked.
Leon sighed, realizing he sounded wrong. "I’m sorry," He apologized.
He knew he was wrong; he was expecting Audrey to restrict her son from sitting where he felt comfortable sitting just so she helped protect his own feelings.
That was selfish on his end; he knew Audrey never joked with his son, and asking her to restrict Mikhail just so she please him was thoughtless of him.
"I’m sorry, I just went to fetch this lady, we can all start eating, please," Isabella announced as she pushed Green to sit on a chair.
She opened the dish and started to serve the food.
As they ate, Mikhail kept asking Lake to feed him, and Lake obliged; he even enjoyed feeding the boy, looking back, Mikhail was actually the first kid he’d fed.
He never really associated himself with kids, he rather stayed away from them, but now, he felt like he always wanted to be near Mikhail.
"Here, let me feed you too," Mikhail spooned a big portion of food and stretched his hand up to Lake’s mouth.
Lake lowered his mouth to the boy’s and ate off the spoon.
Mikhail giggled happily, looking over at his Mother. "Look Moma! He let me feed him," he was excitedly talking to Audrey when he suddenly pushed a plate of food on Lake’s lap.
"Oh no!" Isabella exclaimed.
"Mikhail," Audrey gasped.
Everyone was panicking but Leon was smiling, happy with what had happened.
Isabella quickly ran over apologizing, "I’m so so sorry, Lake, it was an accident," She said as she hurriedly snatched a napkin from the table and went to wipe him off.
Mikhail looked scared; he didn’t know what to expect from his mother and his new friend. He had caused trouble yet again.
"Don’t worry, it’s alright, it was just a mistake," Lake took the napkin and wrapped up the excess food that might have fallen to the floor if he stood.
He slowly stood and stared at Audrey, "I guess I’ll have to wash the clothes, mind showing me to a bathroom, Ms. Audrey?"
His eyes pinned her down, making her imagine what he could possibly want to do to her when he was alone with her inside the bathroom...
