He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 134: From One Fire Pit to Another
Natalie Morgan was desperate to know the truth.
But she was worried Theodore Grant would interfere.
So she went to Yarrow alone, in secret.
Standing at the entrance of a kindergarten, she stared for a long time at the youthful, vibrant, and charming woman inside.
’Is this really the new wife my father married?’
’Or is she an actress?’
’How could her father fall for a woman this young?’
She was only a few years older than Natalie herself.
"Her name is Jenna Wood. She’s twenty-eight. When she got with your father, she was still a college student."
The man who had appeared behind her without her noticing suddenly spoke.
Natalie Morgan looked at him, surprised and suspicious. "What are you doing here? Are you following me?"
"I was just worried about you," he replied calmly.
"We’re not related in any way. What is there for you to be worried about?" She turned her face away and walked off, leaving the kindergarten entrance behind.
Seeing this, Theodore Grant quickened his pace to walk beside her.
He continued telling her about Jenna Wood, his voice calm and low. "Your father took very good care of her. He not only covered her four years of tuition but also arranged a job for her. I heard he also paid over two hundred thousand to treat her mother’s illness."
Natalie Morgan’s steps suddenly halted, an expression of disbelief on her face.
’Over two hundred thousand?’
’How could the Morgan Family have that much money?’
"He barely earned a salary. Where would he get over two hundred thousand? If you’re going to make up a story, at least make it a believable one."
Theodore Grant raised an eyebrow slightly. To be honest, even he found it hard to believe, but a fact was a fact, and it couldn’t be denied. "She became your father’s secret lover. Your father must have loved her very much."
Natalie Morgan’s expression instantly darkened.
’What child would want to hear that their father deeply loved a woman other than their mother?’
"Are you done?" Her voice was cold, laced with impatience.
"They also have a son. You just saw him—it’s the little boy right across from the woman."
This was the truth.
Whether she accepted it or ran from it, it was an undeniable reality.
Natalie didn’t want to hear it. She walked faster, as if she could escape the suffocating affair by doing so.
"Your father probably won’t be returning to Riverden," Theodore Grant added.
Natalie was thoroughly enraged.
Her eyes, blazing as if filled with fire, glared at him. "Do all you men love to play these games with affairs and old flames? What are your legal wives to you? Just some insignificant presence? If that’s the case, what’s the point of keeping a man like that around?"
’I’ve really shot myself in the foot now,’ Theodore Grant thought.
"I just..." he started, trying to explain.
Natalie scoffed. "Are all the faithful men in this world dead?"
"Don’t be angry. What I did before, it was really..." He knew he was wrong. "...There have been some misunderstandings between us. Give me a chance, and I’ll explain everything to you slowly."
"Misunderstandings?"
The years of grief and anger she had bottled up inside her ignited all at once.
"Theodore Grant, even if you didn’t love me, you didn’t have to treat me that way. This isn’t a misunderstanding, it’s your nature. You’re a bad seed—rotten to the core—and you’ll never change. Stop wasting your time on me. There’s no way I’m jumping back into that fire pit."
He didn’t know what to say.
Deep down, he knew very well that some things could be fixed, while others he could never make up for in his entire life.
But no matter the outcome, he wanted her to know how he felt.
"I... I never said I don’t love you."
"So what if you love me? So what if you don’t?" She found it laughable, the corner of her lips curling into a sneer. "The result is the same. You and I are impossible in this lifetime."
"Are you really not going to give me a chance to explain and make it up to you?" he asked, looking at her with a pitiful and humble gaze.
Natalie looked at him very seriously, her voice resolute. "Let’s just pretend we never met. The Natalie Morgan you knew is already dead. Let’s just go our separate ways and leave each other in peace."
’Leave each other in peace?’
His heart twisted in pain.
"So you plan to marry Felix Finch?"
"Does that have anything to do with you?"
"No, it doesn’t." He just wanted to give her a word of warning. "Felix Finch is no good man either. If you really plan on starting over, you should find an ordinary person."
At least her world would be a little simpler.
"That’s none of your concern, Mr. Grant."
Natalie Morgan had absolutely no lingering affection for Theodore Grant.
The bubble had burst, completely and utterly.
’So be it.’
After spending the entire day out, Natalie Morgan finally returned to her hotel.
Her heart felt as if it were tangled in countless threads, heavy and suffocating.
She called the front desk and ordered two bottles of red wine.
She couldn’t really hold her liquor, so she wanted to drink her sorrows away.
As Theodore Grant was returning to the hotel, he happened to bump into a waiter coming up to deliver wine.
"I’m so sorry, sir. I didn’t see you. I hope I didn’t hurt you," the waiter apologized profusely, his face full of regret.
Theodore Grant took a small step back and waved his hand, indicating he was fine.
He raised an eyebrow, asking with some curiosity, "Does your hotel offer wine delivery now?"
"The lady in 1701 ordered two bottles of red wine."
’1701?’
That was Natalie Morgan’s room.
Right next to his.
’Is she planning to drink herself into a stupor?’
He returned to his own suite.
Weller Kendall had already returned.
"Mr. Grant, you’re back," Weller said, his voice tinged with respect.
Theodore Grant nodded slightly, but his mind was still on the two bottles of red wine.
Noticing he was distracted, Weller cleared his throat, trying to pull his attention back to the present.
"Mr. Grant, I have something to report."
Theodore snapped out of it and replied coolly, "Go ahead."
"Mr. Grant, according to my investigation, Felix Finch came to Yarrow before we did. I believe our previous speculation was correct."
Upon hearing this, Theodore just hummed softly in acknowledgment, showing no significant reaction.
"Mr. Grant, I think you could tell this to your wife."
Theodore Grant waved his hand. "There’s no need for explanations. She’s already informed me."
"Informed you of what?" Weller Kendall asked, a hint of confusion in his voice.
"She told me she hopes we go our separate ways and never bother each other again."
Weller Kendall was at a loss for words.
’Since when did Mr. Grant become so obedient?’
"So... you agreed?"
Theodore’s long fingers pinched the bridge of his nose. His voice was tired and helpless. "I suppose so. I owe her too much. If she wants to pursue her own happiness, what right do I have to stop her?"
Weller’s brow furrowed even tighter. "But if she marries Felix Finch, isn’t that just jumping out of one fire pit and into another?"
"*I’m* the fire pit?" His glare was murderous.
Weller shrank back in fear. "It was just a metaphor, sir, don’t be angry. But if she marries Felix Finch, that would be even worse than falling into a fire pit." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"If she’s willing to jump, who can stop her?"
’Back then, she asked Felix Finch to help her fake her death and escape.’
’That alone proves how much she trusts him.’
’For the past three years, Felix has been by her side, deepening their bond and making Natalie grow dependent on him.’
’Marriage is only a matter of time.’
’In any case, whoever she marries, it won’t be me.’
’Why does thinking about it make me so sad?’
’She was the girl he fell for at first sight, his first love, and she just... flew away like that?’
