He who Bends Time-Chapter 78 - benevolent or madness
Chapter 78: Chapter 78 - benevolent or madness
"And the result of that tremendous effort and work in this situation is..." Holding the book, Auran flipped open the cover to its first and only page, where the information he once saw had now become visible.
A curved smile appeared on Auran’s face.
"All the knowledge I saw in the last hour codex... it’s right here," said Auran as he read through the contents on the page.
It took him a certain amount of time before he finally took his eyes off the page and closed the book.
"It would have been really helpful if I could practice this thing in here, but only the consciousness can enter into the Access Finite, and all I can do is read and search inside this thing — nothing physical can be done."
At least I can memorize the contents of the page. Practicing it, however, has to be done in the real world."
After closing the book, Auran walked out from the second section of the Access Finite. Even as he exited, the previously damaged areas had already begun to restore themselves, as a result of his mana regenerating.
Afterward, he came to the first section—the Lazy Domain. There were numerous scrolls now, far more than the amount present when Auran had last shown them to Little Auran. And even at that very moment, new scrolls were still being created, though not in any order, but randomly placed throughout the space.
"I really gotta refine this thing soon," he muttered as he walked through them.
{Access Finite — End}
After those words, Auran reopened his eyes, now once again laying in the chair.
He touched his hand to his body and didn’t feel any unusual sensation.
"Guess the time I spent inside the Access Finite was only a few seconds," he muttered to himself. Then he stood up and put back on the cape he had been wearing.
Closing his eyes, he began to reminisce about the memory of the Last Hour Codex and started to rehearse the spell.
"The Last Hour" — a time spell that is neither offensive nor defensive, but instead a lifesaving spell. It activates only in a life-threatening situation where it is certain that the user will die. Upon activation, the spell postpones the death of the user by one hour.
"One hour might seem little, but in the face of death, it’s better than nothing," Auran said softly after finishing his study of the Last Hour spell.
"I can’t cast it now because my mana is currently being used for the reconstruction of the Access Finite," he muttered, after failing to activate the spell once and examining his own body.
So he waited—until he was certain that his mana had finished the reconstruction of the Access Finite and had enough reserves left to cast a spell.
Auran moved his hand, and from within him, the extra amount of time mana he had flowed from the tip of his hand and moved through the air. That time mana slowly gathered into his other hand, resembling a ball of time.
After enough time mana had gathered, Auran began to adjust the ball of time in the mysterious way described in the Last Hour book. At the end of his work, what was left in his hand was a tiny-sized pill.
"How benevolent must that person have been—not only to reveal the exact nature of his theory but also how to create the most important spell of his own? Or maybe it’s not benevolence at all, but just madness... crazy enough to reveal his own work to others," muttered Auran. The pill that appeared in his hand slowly disappeared within a few seconds, but Auran didn’t show disappointment.
"To successfully complete the Last Hour spell, I still need a few more things. Actually, although it’s called a spell, it’s more like a spell that’s bound to a clump of time," muttered Auran, according to his own understanding.
Afterward, putting his coat back on, Auran stepped out of the room.
"The Access Finite holds a lot of potential—along with its structure and the unique mana I created—but the biggest drawback I currently face is the small amount of mana I have, which renders me unable to create new spells of my own. Because of that, I can only cast my old spells. But this Last Hour spell is something special. It doesn’t require me to create something of my own—it just needs time mana to create something of another’s. So I don’t have to use my own mana. Instead, I’ll have to draw out mana through the spatial circles next time to create the Last Hour pill," he muttered to himself while walking in the outer corridor.
"Where is everybody?" After walking around for a long time, he hadn’t seen anyone except the working crystal figures. When he walked past the dining room, he smelled an aromatic scent and saw a table full of food.
"I haven’t eaten for days, right?" Taking his own situation into consideration, Auran sat at the table and soon began dining. While he was in the middle of eating, one crystal figure handed him a note and a pouch.
"It’s from Marian." Reading the letter, Auran recognized who had written it. The contents explained how to go outside and what to be careful of in the outer world. Along with the pouch full of crystals she had provided for him, she had prepared everything, anticipating that Auran would wake up when she wasn’t in the mansion. She also mentioned where she had gone—to the Upper World’s Third Watchtower.
"Upper World... Third Watchtower... I have no idea where that is." Putting the letter aside, Auran grabbed the pouch and poured its contents into his own crystal envelope—the one handed to him by the Mother Crystal. Then he went back to dining.
"Should I use the second section of Access Finite to find a solution to the low mana issue I have?" he thought while eating, continuing to ponder the problem. As the food on the table slowly disappeared, Auran still hadn’t found a solution to his problem.
"If I had enough mana, I could create spells unique to my theory—ones that would fully define me as a forge-stage magician. However, this problem isn’t something easy to overcome. Although there are plenty of methods to increase mana, and I’ve have remarkable aptitude for mana as part of my gifted Malckoy lineage, the problem is converting that into my own mana, which is now something unique to me.
Another solution is to teach someone else my theory, help them become a time magician, and then extract the magic from their body into mine...
But no way in eternity would I do that. I’m pretty sure something like that is forbidden. Besides, my pride is too strong to allow me to share the things I’ve worked so hard to learn with others."
