Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Promise

During her chat with Kenwayt, Lu Xiao also checked the data on his Spirit Sea’s risk assessment value. Perhaps because he’d spent the week feeling guilty about what happened in the treatment room last time, his Spirit Sea wasn’t as stable as Kels’s.

However, during their conversation just now, that rising trend had actually started to fall.

Looking at the report, Lu Xiao became even more certain that properly venting their emotions was beneficial for S-Class Beastmen.

Seeing Kenwayt’s eyes turn red from her words, Lu Xiao smiled. "Feeling a little better now?"

Kenwayt gave a shy, slightly embarrassed smile, looking more like a young man his age. "Sorry, that was embarrassing."

"Not at all. I think this is good for you. Laughing when you’re happy, crying when you’re sad, letting out the emotions in your heart... there’s nothing wrong with that. All right, let’s begin the Spiritual Soothing. Get some good sleep, and everything will be better when you wake up!"

As she finished speaking, Lu Xiao placed her palm on Kenwayt’s forehead.

Thirty minutes later, Lu Xiao returned to her seat and looked at the sleeping Kenwayt. ’She suddenly thought, would they sleep more comfortably if this chair were replaced with a bed?’

With that in mind, Lu Xiao decided to discuss it with Teacher Ai Li when she left the room.

’She had a feeling Teacher Ai Li would agree.’

This time, Kenwayt slept a little longer than before, though not for a full thirty minutes.

When he woke up, he looked much more refreshed.

"Alright, that’s all for today’s session. I’ll see you next week. And remember our promise."

Lu Xiao gave Kenwayt a smile, then turned and left the treatment room.

Meanwhile, Teacher Ai Li had just contacted Admiral Hans to inform him that all the therapists at the Fifth Research Institute would be utilizing the treatment rooms. She asked him to arrange for some Early-Stage S-Class patients to submit applications internally.

When Lu Xiao learned that Teacher Ai Li had already spoken with Hans, she smiled. "I imagine the Admiral will be very happy."

"He was practically ecstatic, okay?!" Teacher Ai Li said, rolling her eyes dramatically. "He also wanted me to ask when you’ll be coming over next week so he can have his people prepare."

"Monday is good. The sooner, the better. Also, Teacher Ai Li, I’d like to apply for another treatment slot, preferably for a Mid-stage patient. The two Early-Stage slots aren’t much of a challenge for me anymore. I also want to replace the chairs in the treatment rooms with beds. I think the patients would be more comfortable that way."

Teacher Ai Li gave Lu Xiao a complicated look. "I can approve your second request, but as for the first... dear, are Early-Stage S-Class males not enough for you anymore? Are you ready to take on a Mid-stage S-Class?"

Lu Xiao reached out and hugged her, saying coaxingly, "Pleeease, Teacher Ai Li? You saw it for yourself. Two Early-Stage S-Class patients are really no challenge for me."

"Alright, alright, I’ll put in the request for you. But if I see you looking pale during a treatment, you stop immediately!"

Lu Xiao obediently replied, "I promise I won’t give Teacher Ai Li anything to worry about!"

Teacher Sherry, who was nearby, overheard and said, "With an attitude like that, Xiao Xiao, those guys are going to absolutely adore you!"

Lu Xiao chuckled. "I’m just doing what I love."

"You’re crazy. Only you would actually enjoy something like this." Having spent a lot of time with Lu Xiao, they all knew she genuinely loved her job and took pleasure in treating the S-Class males.

While they found it incredible, they also felt it was just like Lu Xiao to be such a special kind of female.

"Alright, it’s getting late. Let’s pack up and head home," Teacher Ai Li said, patting Lu Xiao’s shoulder. "I’ll pass your requests on to Admiral Hans. Don’t worry, he won’t refuse."

’She even suspected that when Hans heard Lu Xiao’s request, he’d probably grin from ear to ear.’

"Thank you, Teacher Ai Li. I appreciate you going to the trouble."

"Don’t mention it. Now go home and get some rest."

Lu Xiao quickly packed her things and left the office. When she stepped out, Ares was already there waiting for her.

He always stood there, tall and straight, as if he’d be there no matter when she turned to look.

Reliable and reassuring.

Lu Xiao smiled as she walked over to him. "Ares, I’d like to invite the four teachers over to our place this weekend. You don’t mind, do you?"

"Why would I? I don’t mind at all. I’ll pick up some groceries over the next few days."

"Good, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Oh, and after our dinner with Teacher Ai Li and the others, you should find some time to invite your friends over too."

Ares’s heart skipped a beat at her words. "There’s no need. They probably wouldn’t come."

"How can you know if you don’t even ask? What are you so worried about, Ares?"

"It’s nothing... Alright, I’ll try inviting them."

"Good. I’m looking forward to meeting your friends." As she spoke, the terminal on Lu Xiao’s wrist suddenly beeped.

Because of that, Lu Xiao didn’t see the faint blush creeping up his face.

The terminal displayed an unknown number. Lu Xiao answered it, suspicious, and a female voice came through. "Lu Xiao, what have you been so busy with lately? Why haven’t you called us? By the way, I heard there are a lot of new guys over at Charles’s place. Want to go check it out tonight?"

It took Lu Xiao a moment to realize what the caller was talking about, and by then it was too late to lower the volume. She could already feel Ares’s eyes on her and blurted out instinctively, "Sorry, who is this? I don’t have you saved in my contacts. I don’t recognize your voice!"

In truth, Lu Xiao didn’t need to ask. She knew it had to be one of the original owner’s bad-influence friends, she just wasn’t sure which one.

The person on the other end was clearly not expecting that and was left speechless. After a long moment, she shrieked, "Lu Xiao, you’ve got some nerve!"

Then, the caller immediately ended the communication, clearly furious.

Lu Xiao rubbed her ear, which was now ringing from the shouting, and looked at Ares. "Ahem. It was probably a wrong number."

"But she said your name."

"Did she? Heh. I really can’t remember who she is. See? I don’t even have her name saved in my contacts."

’It was also possible she had just deleted it today, which was why there was no contact info.’

’She was very glad for her own foresight.’

Seeing her tension, Ares realized he wasn’t actually angry. It didn’t matter what Lu Xiao had been like in the past. At least since they’d been together, she had never gone out like that, and that was enough.

’How could he be greedy enough to want her past, too?’

But he said, "She sounded angry. What if she doesn’t contact you anymore?"

"That would be great. I’ve wanted to make a clean break with the past for a long time. This life, right now, is the one I want."

Hearing this, Ares couldn’t stop a smile from spreading across his face. He responded softly, "Mm."
