Healing System-Chapter 316: Not a Kid?
Michael had been exploring this place for the last few hours, and honestly, he was beginning to think that whatever was here had long since disappeared.
After all, even the weaponry he had found along the way had long since been turned to shit.
All, except the first spear he had found—but that was all the hints he had gotten so far.
At least I'm not lost, Michael hummed, and picked up his pace.
However, just as he thought he would need to do this for several more days, he suddenly saw a black pillar which extended off into the sky.
Naturally, Michael proceeded to head toward that pillar.
Along the way, he saw paths paved, even a few more weapons tossed around. And of course, these weapons were still in nearly perfect condition, so he could use them if he wished.
However, he wasn't much of a weapons guy in the first place. Only the bow and sword were his favorites at the current moment.
Therefore, after a few minutes of jogging, he finally appeared in front of the pillar. Around it, there were multiple house-like structures, but sadly, they were all empty.
Nonetheless, Michael welcomed such a sight as it meant he wasn't going in the wrong direction.
He paced around the houses, looking for anything interesting.
And as he entered the last house, he definitely found something interesting.
"Oi..." Michael called out. "You alive?"
There was a child lying on the ground. He seemed pale and charred, almost as if someone had burnt him.
However, upon closer look, the kid was still alive, so Michael proceeded to spam several heals on him.
And after several more minutes, the kid finally took his first breath and opened his eyes.
Like his hair, they were blue, and from the looks of things, Michael could tell this wasn't a demon or an angel. Instead, it was some race between a human and an aquatic being, as the kid had weird fins on the sides of his body.
The kid tried standing up, however, his feet faltered and he fell back down, bruising his leg in the process.
He's so fragile, Michael thought with a frown, and healed him again.
"What happened here? Could you tell me?" he asked.
But the kid seemed to completely ignore Michael as he tried to stand up again.
This time he succeeded, and he began walking around the house, interacting with every single object he could find, until eventually, he turned his gaze toward Michael.
"Where is mom?"
Michael's brows furrowed further. "I don't know, kid. I just got here."
He did recall seeing some ash on the ground right beside the entrance, but it was better for the kid to not know his mother was likely incinerated.
"And dad...?" the kid asked.
But once again, Michael shook his head. "I don't know. Just follow me for the time being, we can try looking around."
The kid nodded, and with that, they left the house.
Of course, Michael blew away the ash so the kid wouldn't be able to see it. And now, he visited the remaining houses.
It was a bit strange how he couldn't feel this kid's mana. However, upon closer look, Michael realized that this kid didn't even have a mana core.
That was strange, simply because this place required a lot of strength and regeneration to be inside. And yet this kid over here was unscathed.
Even my wings got burnt off, but I guess that's just his body adjusting to the surroundings, somehow? I don't even know what to make of this, Michael thought, and just in case, noted the kid down as an anomaly.
In the worst-case scenario, Michael would kill him.
Nonetheless, he didn't find any remnants of people in any of the other houses—not even a family photo.
Therefore, it was time to move elsewhere.
However, before he did that, Michael proceeded to attempt to summon an apple.
It was golden in color, and from the little knowledge he had of how food creation worked, he decided to skimp out on flavor altogether.
Soon, it was done, and he held a shining gold apple in his hands, which he immediately passed over to the kid.
"Have a bite. It's not tasty, but at least you won't starve to death."
The kid nodded and accepted the apple before digging in.
Unsurprisingly, he flashed a disgusted expression, but Michael merely shrugged it off, as he wasn't exactly some kind of mana-using chef.
Not yet anyway.
Michael decided to check out the pillar from earlier, but sadly, it wasn't anything special.
Therefore, alongside the kid, Michael continued heading north.
Along the way, he summoned a few coats, shoes, and even other types of clothes for the kid since Michael expected him to be cold.
But that didn't seem to be the case, as the kid merely walked beside him leisurely.
"So anyways, what's your name?" Michael broke the silence.
"My parents called me Arthur, but I am not child," the kid replied.
"You look like a child though, no offense." Michael chuckled. "So how old are you then? Mister not-a-child."
"I'm nearing 583,211 years old this week," Arthur said, causing Michael to halt.
"I really hope you're joking..." Michael muttered, but Arthur merely shook his head.
"We Klaxians live for eons. My parents and I lived for a long time together, however, it all ended abruptly several decades ago."
"Is that why you were burnt?" Michael asked with a tilt of his head.
Arthur nodded. "That's right. We have self-preservation capabilities, so I can appear dead, or even completely disintegrate my body if I wish. However, in the end, it seems like they died ahead of schedule."
"That's..." Michael sighed. "I suppose you're not young, so I'll be blunt with you. They were incinerated, and I found ashes of many people near your house. My bet is, one of them was your parent."
"I see..." Arthur replied, his voice cold. "Do you know where I can find the demons?"
"Were demons responsible?" Michael asked with a tilt of his head. "I'm actually looking for them now, so I don't know."
"They weren't the ones responsible." Arthur shook his head. "However, those pests are a good object to vent out my frustration on."
"I don't mean to alarm you, but you don't exactly have a mana core. Unless you're somehow hiding your strength, then they'd kill you in an instant," Michael added.
However, Arthur merely chuckled. All of a sudden, his body grew, no longer resembling a child's.
At the same time, his mana reignited itself, and Michael could now feel it rising more and more, until eventually, it stopped around the Tier 11 level.
"Hmm..." Michael narrowed his eyes. "So you could've done that from the beginning?"
"Indeed." Arthur nodded as he walked forward. "There are many things in this land that I wish to find. However, demons are what I need at the moment, so if you'll excuse me, I'll go look for them."
The moment he finished his words, Arthur dashed away.
However, before he could get too far, Michael grabbed his collar, surprising Arthur.
After all, the strength difference was immense, so for Michael to be able to even slow him down was simply unbelievable.

"Look, I don't know your circumstances. However, if you go alone, then you'll likely die just as you nearly did all those decades ago," Michael stated. "That's why you'll be going with me. Not only can I heal your injuries, I'm also looking for the demons."
Although Michael was saying these flowery words, what he really wanted was someone he could throw under the bus if need be.
After all, this guy was strong, but if even he got burned and nearly killed, Michael could only imagine the fate that would await him.
Or maybe not, and he was being paranoid—but once again, it was better to be safe than sorry.
"So what do you say, Arthur? Wanna team up?"
"I'm not slowing my pace," Arthur replied, and the moment he did, he dashed away.
However, Michael merely grinned, and with quick steps, began following Arthur.
The strength difference was definitely present in this scenario. After all, even if Arthur was injured and still wasn't in total peak condition, his stats were just that much higher than Michael's.
Nonetheless, he didn't fall that far behind, and after roughly 3 hours of constant running, they finally stopped.
And to Michael's surprise, there was actually some sort of city in front of him.
It wasn't grandiose by any means—probably the size of a town. However, the sheer amount of demons inside it was incredible.
However, one more problem arose.
None of the demons were committing any evil acts, and from what he could hear, there wasn't even a tinge of crime.
But just as Michael was thinking of going down there and having a chat, he suddenly felt a cold breeze from the side.
And the moment he turned toward it, he was greeted by a massive tsunami which was heading straight toward the city.
Before Michael could even utter a word, the tsunami sped up, and in the very next moment, took the lives of everyone in that city before sweeping them away off into the distance.
Michael frowned and turned toward Arthur, who, by now, had a wide smile on his face.
"Aaah... I missed this feeling so much."
