Chapter 37: Is That Her?

"Why are we talking about this?" Luellen frowned.

"You’re so useless." Shirley stepped away. "Everyone who comes to his house always talks about the gym. Humph, why did I even expect you to make it past the main lobby? Mr Wentworth is not just rich; he’s also very pleasing to look at. You stepped inside his house, but you didn’t even see anything. How useless."

Luellen stared at the woman who finished washing the dishes to be used. She just sighed and stirred the soup in her pot. "I didn’t see the gym. I’m more interested in the atrium garden. Watching him garden is better than him lifting weights. You can see his arms working.

"The second-floor hallway is also filled with windows. It’s easy to find him walking around." Luellen sighed. "He also runs around their lot in the morning. If I don’t wake up early, I can only wait for him in the kitchen."

She flinched and tapped her chin. "Right, Mr Leander’s kitchen is big and beautiful. It’s so nice to cook in it. They have all the finest equipment. Oh, same with the guest rooms. You can feel the bed wrap around you. We also sprayed perfume in each, even if they were barely used. I think they generally keep their house pleasant to surprise guests."

Shirley frowned. "How would you know what the guest rooms look like? Also, the kitchen? Who cares about being in the kitchen so early?"

Luellen couldn’t help but smile. "Well, that’s the best place to run into Mr Leander after he took a shower. It’s like a routine."

"Wait, after a shower?"

"Yeah, you can still smell his fresh body spray on him. His hair is still damp and unstyled. Oh, and he’s normally sleepy before breakfast! He looks so cute!"

The door opened, startling Luellen and Shirley. The maiden’s smile didn’t have enough time to recede when Leander glared at her. He closed the door behind him and leaned on the frame.

He said, "Ms Piper, I didn’t think you were one to gossip. Have you forgotten what I keep telling you?"

Luellen put the lid on the soup in front of her. She even used it as an excuse to hide her face. "Uhm... you always tell me not to say things I don’t want to discuss with you."

Leander eyed Shirley, who wanted to vanish into the floor. However, his words were for Luellen. "Do you think you can say that to my face?"

The maiden flinched and turned to Leander. Her face flushed, and her hands gripped the mitten. She opened her mouth slightly, only to close it. With a teasing gleam in her eyes, she smiled widely.

"I think Mr Leander looks so cute in the mornings!" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Freeze. Not only Shirley, but Leander was left speechless as well. Luellen ignored the other person. However, she continued smiling at Leander. That man kept teasing her. She needed to launch a counterattack. Even if it backfired within the day, at least she dared. Leander should learn not to play with her constantly.

It was just that... Leander laughed. His eye even twitched. His elusive, vicious smile rose. "Oh? You think I’m cute? Then, am I expecting you to show up more frequently in the mornings? Hm, maybe Beck was right to grant you second-floor privileges.

"Say, do you want a room next to mine? Since you can see me through the windows, your room should be close by. I won’t have to sneak for long by then, right?"

"Eh? Mr Leander, this is unfair! Why do you always win?" Luellen whined.

"It’s because we have no equal grounds." Leander huffed and cleared his smile. He looked at Shirley. "If you have the time to stand around, bring the plates to the pantry table. Use the trolley so you won’t have to carry all of them at once."

Shirley nodded and stayed low. "Yes, sir!"

She glanced at Luellen, who ran to a pot that was boiling over. Her fists balled tighter. She slowly rose and caught Leander leaving the kitchen. Her lips pursed into a line before walking to the trolley. She had to load the plates on it without breaking anything. However, her hands even shook.

...

Smiles and chattering were all over the banquet hall. The rich clustered among themselves, discussing trivial matters. Deep topics had no place in a public gathering. Everyone had to put on faces and flatter one another.

Leander Wentworth was not one to join them. However, he had to stand around those people to hear what they would say. Every gossip, every story... Leander could exploit anything as long as it served a purpose. Tonight was like any other gala he attended. Perhaps the only difference was the people he had to wait for.

"Leander, there you are! Have you been waiting long?" Gala walked in with her niece. To the men around Leander, they were like a pair of beauties. However, the women only needed to share a smile to know what Gala wanted.

"Mr Wentworth." Shirley greeted him just the same. Her visuals were surely inherited from her mother, Gala’s sister. She also made sure she wore the best makeup for her face. Seeing how Luellen’s face changed from her makeup concerned Shirley. That nobody might look an inch better if she didn’t step up.

"Leander, who are these beautiful women?" An old man in the cluster grinned at them, more so when Gala and Shirley greeted him as well. "Do angels fly down to you?"

The CEO gestured at the two beauties. "These are Galaxy and Shirley. They’re my secretaries. Gala, Shirley, this is Kelvin Forester. He owns the logistics company we closely work with."

Houston glanced at the two others. He would speak if only the old ones wouldn’t ask Leander to answer by himself. Still, the CEO seemed correct in his predictions. Gala showed up in an electrifying red gown with cut-outs that guided the eyes. Shirley wore a peach gown, seemingly contrasting Gala’s image with some kind of innocence.

Innocence? What innocence? Houston snorted inwardly.

More executives crowded around Leander. Gala took the chance to hug his arm lightly, claiming a position others could only dream of. Even the onlooking women couldn’t help but feel jealous. What must someone be to stand next to Leander Wentworth?

"Who is she?" A whisper echoed among the younger men. One by one, heads would turn as if they found someone brighter.

Houston wasn’t busy, so he turned just the same. He couldn’t help but flinch and drop his jaw a little. Leander was quick to catch Houston’s reaction, prompting his gaze to fly in the same direction. Those who pay attention to Leander followed suit. Needless to say, more jaws dropped.

Next to an elegant woman in a purple gown, a maiden almost rivaled the full moon in the sky. Her silver gown almost reflected the bright lights, and the diamonds shimmered under their gaze. Her white jewelry competed with her complexion, while her black hair was like a silky curtain on her shoulders.

Her colored liners served her eyeshape, and her red lipstick painted a striking picture. Such a fair lady walked with her chaperone.

"Is that... her?" Gala trembled in her spot. She stared at the silver gown and pursed her lips. "How could she afford a Winter Glass dress? It’s even from the latest collection. Isn’t she broke? Where did she get the money?"

"Easy." Leander shook Gala lightly. "From me."
