Hearts System: 1000 Ways to Tell CEO I Love You-Chapter 7: The Girl I Know
Like Fate’s giggle, the elevator opened before Luellen. Her ears picked up on a man’s angry voice as soon as it did.
"I already told you. Stop contacting me directly. It is not helping your case." Leander Wentworth, the CEO of Wentworth Industries, stood inside the elevator. His frown was so deep that it scared Luellen. However, for some reason, he only glanced at the maiden before him. Then, he reached out and handed her... a small dog.
"Mr Wentworth...?" Luellen said softly as she quickly carried the white Teacup Pomeranian and the tote bag on his arm.
"This is the last time I will speak to you about this." Leander didn’t respond to her and kept talking to the phone clipped between his head and shoulder. He also handed her the coffee tray in his other hand.
When he got one hand free, he took the phone and lowered it. "My desk. Houston’s not coming early. Go now. Tell Henny I’ll be at the staircase."
Just like that, Leander angrily walked off and spoke to the person over the phone. Luellen didn’t have the audacity to share the burden, so she could only deliver the items in her arms. Then again, that meant she would have to see those women again. Moreover, Henny? That was the old madam, right?

Luellen swallowed the lump in her throat. She only looked at the growling teacup in her arm. "Please don’t bite me. I’ll bring you to your daddy’s office."
Bark! Its high-pitched bark rang out in the hallway. Luellen panicked further and shuffled to the office. She soon walked into the glass walls showing off the office’s lobby. Her eyes met Gala’s and Shirley’s irritated gaze. Madam Henny was nowhere in sight.
"I...!"
Click! Gala walked to the glass doors and locked them from inside. She then gestured at Luellen like she was shooing a stray dog. Her mouth even moved slowly as if enunciating her words that wouldn’t punch through the glass.
"Shoo. You and your dog have no place here. Find the streets and pee there if you like." Gala then laughed and walked back to her desk. Her image even unveiled Shirley’s derisive smile. They went back to speaking to each other as if Luellen were not standing there with a yapping dog in her arms.
"...what am I supposed to do?" Luellen didn’t want to continue standing there. She walked back to where they wouldn’t see her. The maiden didn’t even know how to hold the coffee tray properly because of the heavy tote bag.
She ended up adjusting the heavy bag without dropping anything. Her face just needed to jerk away from the dog’s mouth. The teacup surely didn’t like anyone handling her.
Luellen walked back in front of the office, glancing at the two gossiping ladies. However, they ignored her as if she wasn’t standing there. The maiden didn’t even have the hand to knock.
"What is that sound? Is that a dog?" Madam Henny walked out of the distant door of the inner office. Her voice was even loud enough to seep through the glass doors. She glanced at Gala before looking at the glass doors. Her sudden freeze was even so shocking that Gala and Shirley looked in her direction.
"Wait a minute..." Madam Henny went to the glass doors and pushed against them. She glared at the lock and glanced at Gala once. The glass doors opened, and Madam Henny gently took the dog from Luellen. "Why is Sydney...? Where’s Leander?"
Luellen allowed the old woman to take the dog. The teacup even wiggled like seeing a favorite person. This madam must be familiar with the CEO’s dog. Luellen answered, "Mr Wentworth arrived minutes ago. He said he’ll be at the staircase. He wants me to put this tray on his desk... and bring his pet to his office. Uhm, is she called Sydney?"
Madam Henny looked at Luellen intently for a moment. She turned to Gala and Shirley before looking at Luellen again. "Uhm, yeah, Sydney... you know what? Stay out here for now. Sydney’s not wearing a diaper. She might ruin the carpet."
"Okay, ma’am." Luellen watched as Madam Henny brought Sydney down and reached for the coffee tray. The maiden asked, "Can I walk her on the fifteenth floor?"
"Hm, I don’t know. She doesn’t like that place." Madam Henny walked inside to grab her phone from her drawer. She fiddled with it and sighed. "Dammit. I shouldn’t leave my phone lying around again. Let’s see..."
She looked at Luellen before seeing the tote bag and shoulder bag on the same arm. "Sydney’s dogsitter can’t make it today. She’s also scheduled for some shots. Can you take her to the vet? Houston should be here to assist you, but... well, he’s not here, is he? I can give you the address..."
Luellen slowly nodded. "Don’t worry, I’ll bring Sydney back for lunch. I’ll inform you if we need to spend more time. Uhm, can I have your number, Madam?"
The old woman only nodded and exchanged numbers with Luellen. "Go now. The vet will open soon. Sydney doesn’t like seeing big dogs in particular. She’s feisty without her daddy. Can you handle her? If she bites you, don’t hit her."
"I’ll just get some shots, too..." Luellen couldn’t help the tasteless joke. She was right to say it, however. She was already at the vet. If she got bitten, they might help her.
"Sydney, baby, just wait for Daddy just a little more, okay?" Madam Henny cooed at the small dog that Luellen carried again. "He’ll be back home tomorrow."
Luellen didn’t understand the ’tomorrow’ comment. She just took the dog back to the elevator while Madam Henny brought the coffee. The older woman walked with the maiden to the elevator. Before Madam Henny left, she turned to Luellen.
She asked, "Miss, what is your name? Houston mentioned something like Piper... That’s the name I know."
"I’m Luellen Piper." The maiden smiled. "My supervisor didn’t like the idea of me transferring here, so she wants Shirley to take my place as the intern. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, Madam."
"I’m sorry for what happened earlier. I’ll fix it later after meeting Leander." Madam Henny patted the dog’s head. "Uhm, Sydney’s his niece, if you must call her with anything. His brother got into an accident three days ago. He hired a dogsitter, but the dogsitter ran into trouble, too. Take care of her."
"I will, Madam." Luellen nodded off. The elevator doors opened, and Luellen walked inside. She watched her reflection show up as the steel doors closed.
