Heavens' Laughter-Chapter 128: Green Hat
Feng Shen knelt on one knee, bowing his head low as he gently urged the little girl to do the same.
"Ah, Your Highness!" he said, "I assure you, we meant no harm. My daughter wasn’t trying to steal—"
The 1st Princess raised her hand, cutting him off mid-sentence. "There’s no need to explain," she said firmly, her voice calm yet commanding.
Her personal guard leaned in to whisper something in her ear.

The 1st Princess nodded, her expression remaining composed as she crossed her arms.
"The truth has already come to light," she declared. "Neither of you committed any crime. Your hands never even touched the food."
A wave of relief rippled through the crowd.
The guards visibly relaxed, letting out quiet sighs as they stepped back, grateful the incident hadn’t escalated.
Meanwhile, the young man from the elite family, who had instigated the entire scene, underwent a rapid transformation.
His accusatory tone vanished as he fumbled to save face. He rubbed the back of his neck nervously, a sheepish smile plastered on his face.
"Ah, Your Highness, please accept my sincerest apologies!" he exclaimed, bowing deeply. "I acted in haste and misjudged the situation. I feel terrible for my mistake — truly, I do!" His voice oozed remorse, though his subtle glances toward the princess betrayed his true intentions.
The young man adjusted his finely tailored clothes and smoothed his perfectly styled hair, desperate to salvage his image in her eyes.
The 1st Princess, unfazed by the young man’s theatrics, turned her attention back to the father and the little girl.
Her tone softened. "Take what you need," she said firmly. "Make sure the child eats."
"Thank you, Your Highness. Your kindness knows no bound." Feng Shen straightened and took the little girl’s hand:
"You are truly a paragon of justice and wisdom."
"You flatter me. It was simply a misunderstanding," the 1st Princess replied, her tone graceful as she waved her hand dismissively, letting out a soft chuckle.
The young man felt as though an arrow had pierced his heart. His chest tightened, and he nearly coughed up blood at the sight of the woman he adored smiling at another man.
’Damn this bastard!’ he cursed inwardly, his glare sharp enough to cut steel as he shot daggers at the father.
But the young man’s expression quickly shifted, his lips curling into a calculated smile as a sinister thought crossed his mind. ’It’s fine. I’ll just get rid of him…’
Feigning composure, he bowed slightly. "Excuse me, Your Highness," he said smoothly before turning on his heel and retreating through the crowd, his mind already scheming.
The 1st Princess, ignoring the young man, seemingly unfazed, turned her attention back to her gathered people. "Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must return to my duties," she announced.
She strode gracefully through the dispersing masses; her guards falling into formation behind her.
Feng Shen watched her retreat with a faint smirk, his hand idly stroking his chin.
Once the 1st princess was out of sight, he turned his attention back to the child beside him. "Well, go ahead and eat," he said with a casual nod.
The little girl’s eyes sparkled with delight, her face lighting up with a smile for the first time. She eagerly released Feng Shen’s hand and scampered toward the remaining food.
Her small hands moved quickly, grabbing what she could.
Feng Shen followed behind her at a leisurely pace. His hands clasped behind his back.
As he walked, he felt the burning stares of the elites boring into him, their eyes filled with contempt and unspoken threats.
Feng Shen’s lips curled into a sly grin, his gaze briefly meeting theirs before moving on as if they were beneath his notice.
’Ah~ this is too funny,’ he thought to himself, thoroughly enjoying the seething hatred directed his way. For him, the hostility was like a fine wine — something to savor.
The little girl came back holding an apple, some grapes, and a banana. She was eating with unrestrained enthusiasm, bits of food clinging to her lips and smudged around her face as she licked at the remnants.
"So yummy!" she exclaimed, her voice brimming with joy.
The little girl had never tasted anything so fresh, and the burst of flavor left her stunned. Placing a hand on her cheek, she let out a delighted giggle.
Feng Shen’s expression briefly twisted into one of disgust. The sight of such innocence — pure and untainted — grated against him, sparking an urge to end her existence right then and there.
His fingers twitched with the thought, but he restrained himself.
There was no need to spoil the fun just yet. Instead, Feng Shen’s gaze shifted to a far more amusing target: the young man from earlier.
’Ah, it seems I’ve found a delightful appetizer before the main course,’ Feng Shen thought, his tongue briefly flicking over his lips.
The memory of the young man’s animosity and obvious affection for the 1st Princess was far too delicious to ignore.
Feng Shen’s eyes gleamed as he imagined how the pieces of his game would soon fall into place. ’It’ll be absolutely exquisite.’
As the sky began to darken, he glanced upward, noting the deepening hues of twilight.
"Alright, let’s try to find an open tent," Feng Shen said casually, his voice snapping the little girl out of her food-induced bliss.
She nodded quickly, swallowing the last bite of her meal in a hurry.
Wiping her face with the back of her hand, she trotted back to Feng Shen’s side, her small hand instinctively reaching for his.
He gave the little girl a brief glance before leading her forward.
As Feng Shen and the girl wandered through the camp, they quickly realized that no tents were available to house them.
A sigh escaped his lips, and he rubbed the back of his head. After a brief search, he found a small spot in the corner of the camp, beneath a modest tree.
"Well~ it seems we’ll be sleeping outside," Feng Shen remarked casually.
The little girl’s face fell, her brows knitting together in sadness, but she remained silent, not daring to protest. They had no other choice.
Walking over to the small tree, Feng Shen sat down beneath it, and the girl, without a word, climbed onto his lap, curling up against his chest.
She closed her eyes, trying to drift into sleep.
Feng Shen’s gaze drifted toward the personal guard of the 1st Princess, who had been observing them from a distance.
He noticed the personal guard’s subtle movements before the woman hurried off. Continue reading stories on novelbuddy
Within minutes, the 1st Princess emerged from a large tent, her expression full of concern.
"Oh, my! How could a child sleep outside in the cold of the night?" she exclaimed, rushing over to them.
Feng Shen raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise. "Hmm? Your Highness? What’s wrong?"
"This will not do!" The 1st Princess exclaimed, extending her hand forward. "Please, come with me. I have room in my tent. Both you and your daughter can rest in comfort."
Feng Shen shook his head, raising his hands in gentle refusal.
"We couldn’t possibly accept such an offer, especially from someone of your status. You’ve already shown us far too much kindness," he replied, his face set in a frown.
"No. I insist! Please, don’t make me ask again!" The 1st Princess puffed her cheeks out in a way that made her look almost like a playful squirrel, her embarrassment clear.
Feng Shen let out a deep sigh, turning to the little girl, who had already awoken. He gently nudged her off his chest, then rose to his feet.
With a soft smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, he took the princess’s hand and stood up.
"I truly must thank you for your generosity…"
"It’s no trouble at all. Now, please follow me!" the 1st Princess said, turning on her heel and beginning to walk. Her personal guard trailed behind her.
Feng Shen followed, the little girl’s hand still held in his.
As they walked, he glanced over his shoulder, catching sight of several men passing by, all with concealed weapons.
A wide, manic grin spread across Feng Shen’s face as he thought, ’Seems someone wants me dead… I wonder who it could be?’ His thoughts mocked the situation, already knowing the answer.
He stifled a chuckle, letting it slip out just as he entered the 1st Princess’s large tent.

Inside a certain tent…
"You said what?!" The young man gritted his teeth, his anger boiling over as he coughed up a small trickle of blood.
The shock of the news had taken its toll on him. "Are you absolutely sure he entered her tent?" he demanded, his voice sharp with disbelief.
’No man had ever been allowed into her private areas, not once!’ The young man quickly thought. ’I feel like I have a green hat on!"
All the men nodded solemnly.
One of them spoke up, hesitant but firm:
"It seems the 1st Princess insisted on it… She allowed him and the girl inside herself…"
