Hell University-Chapter 15 - 14: Death
Chapter 14: Death
Zein’s Point of View
We immediately ran in the direction of the scream we heard. My heart was pounding. I knew something bad had happened again.
We were met by a man lying face down. He had been stabbed three times in the back. He was probably stabbed from behind without even realizing it.
"Remove that corpse!" We were surprised when Teacher Kath appeared in front of us, who was obviously irritated.
"It’s blocking the way!" She added.
The guards arrived and dragged the lifeless body of a boy. They dragged the corpse as if they didn’t care about him. They didn’t respect his body, and even violated him as they dragged on. Heartless people.
"And you!" Teacher Kath pointed at us. "What are you gawking at?!" That made the students disappear quickly.
Only the seven of us remained, including Liam who’s now inviting us to leave.
"You won’t do anything?" Mia couldn’t believe it.
I was surprised too by what they did. It’s like it doesn’t even matter to them that a student died and no one knows who did it.
"What do you want us to do? Waste our time on a worthless person? If you want, go ahead yourselves. Excuse me."
She walked past us with an eyebrow raised. We were left behind, we still couldn’t believe it ourselves.
"Someone just died and they didn’t even care?" Mia asked.
"They’re just showing that everyone here is worthless, that we’re not worth their time," Matt said, deep in thought
"They’re always like that, they don’t even care about those who died and even more to those who kill." Liam said, who now smiled once again.
What’s with this guy, and he can still manage to smile? Is he a demon too? Like them? What is he hiding inside?
"Better if we head back to the dorm first," Dave suggested.
"Sure, I’ll go ahead." Liam bid his goodbye while looking at Vanessa who didn’t spare him a glance.
What’s going on? Could it be true? Or maybe he’s just planning something?
"You go ahead. I have something to do in the office," I said, letting them walk ahead.
I glanced back at the floor once more, where there was still blood even now. Another person had died, and no one knew who the killer was.
My attention was immediately drawn to the drops of blood leading toward a building. Before I knew it, I found myself following them.
As I kept following them, my feet led me to a room that looked like it hadn’t been used for a long time. I glanced down the empty hallway before turning my gaze back to the doorknob.
It was dangerous to open it. I didn’t know what was waiting for me, danger? Possibly. But I knew I wouldn’t be able to stop myself once curiosity had taken hold of me.
I found myself turning the knob and slowly pushing it open. It was a bit hard to open, and the door creaked as I tried to push it. As I continued to push it open, I immediately felt that I wasn’t alone.
A dark room greeted me. I felt around for the light switch, and a chill ran through me when I realized the switch felt slightly wet. The light flickered on and off, which revealed a messy room.
I went pale when I saw that the hand I used to turn on the light was now stained with blood. I glanced at the switch and saw that it really was smeared with blood — blood that I thought the killer must have touched earlier.
I held my breath every time the light went out, and my fear grew stronger whenever it flickered back on. The weak, flickering light felt like it could die completely at any second.
I slowly scanned the entire room. I was right, it was an old classroom. Chairs were overturned and even the teacher’s table. The dusty smell was harsh on my nose too.
Where is the killer?
I paled and my heartbeat temporarily halted when someone suddenly closed the door. I suddenly felt someone grab me and violently push me against the wall.
"Why are you following me?!"
The tightness in my chest vanished the moment I got a good look at this man, even with the flickering light.
He was one of those men who beat Nazzer up. Obviously the guy who was stabbed earlier was also one of the three, but why? Why did he kill his own friend?
"W-Why? Why did you kill your friend?" I asked.
I could feel how my knees trembled in surprise.
He seemed to come to his senses and let go of me. He kicked an overturned chair, creating a loud noise.
"No, I need to kill Raven. He needs to die." He said.
I only noticed now that he’s still holding the knife that I think he used to stab Raven.
His clothes were stained with blood, as well as his hands holding the knife.
"Why?" I asked.
He faced me as the light flickered on briefly. He was crying, looking as if he regretted what he had done.
"If I don’t kill him, it’s me. It’s me who will die." He answered.
Shit. This is what that red hair was referring to. He told me that those three guys are going to die and obviously, he was the one who threatened him.
"But killing goes against human law, especially against God’s law."
"I know. I had no choice. I had to kill him so I could survive."
He suddenly rushed out of the room, so I quickly followed him. It was a good thing it was class time, there were no students around, or they would have seen the blood on his clothes.
"Wait!" I stopped him but it was as if he hadn’t heard a thing and just walked without stopping. I was almost running just to catch up with him. He was still holding the knife.
A guy stopped when he saw a familiar person approaching him. I instantly recognized him. He was the third guy who beat Nazzer up.
"Paulo? Why are you holding a knife?" he asked while looking at Paulo’s hands. "Did you hear the news? Raven was killed." He uttered sadly.
I remained in my position in the corner, like a shadow waiting for what they were going to do next.
"I know Julse, I was the one who killed him." Paulo responded and made Julse freeze.
They were quiet for several seconds.
Paulo offered his hand holding the knife in front of Julse. He knitted his brow.
"Use it so you can survive." He told Julse.
"W-What are you saying?" He asked in confusion.
"I know that if you won’t kill me, they will kill you instead." Paulo uttered.
Even I was stunned after hearing that. They are really the true manipulators. They blackmailed those three men so they would end up killing each other themselves. How cruel.
My eyes widened in shock when Julse took out something behind him, it was too late when I realized it was a knife and he had stabbed Paulo, who’s now laying on the ground.
Everything happened so quickly, in just one snap, Paulo had lost his life.
Is this where everything ends for them?
Will the last survivor, Julse, be safe?
"I’m safe," he muttered to himself and smiled.
No. He’s not safe, he might be safe from danger, but will he be free from his conscience?
Just like what happened to Raven earlier, the guards dragged Paulo’s corpse like trash.
Then Julse suddenly disappeared.
I returned to the SSG Office and found no people inside. I sat on my table and tiredly leaned my back against the chair.
Everything that has happened earlier flashed through my head. Everything started because of a misunderstanding, a mistaken belief that the man they beat up was just an ordinary guy. They were wrong, and that mistake cost them their lives.
I lifted my gaze when I heard the door open.
"How’s investigating Ms. Shion? So you found out who the killer was? Did you gain anything?" Teacher Kath asked as she walked toward her table. "Nothing, right? You gained nothing. So why should we waste our time on a person when we know we won’t get anything out of it?" she reasoned.
Is that really how they treat everyone? If you’re useless, they don’t care about you. Is that really their principle?
"Even so, you should have at least paid attention to what happened. We’re talking about a life, Teacher Kath," I said.
"A worthless life. They’re actually lucky," she replied. "They won’t experience the calamity that’s coming," she added.
Is there really a calamity? Is this it? Is this really the end for us?
"A calamity that spares no one."
We fell silent when the door opened and Fritzy and Onel walked in.
"Oh my! This is so stressful already! Bodies are scattered everywhere. It’s disgusting," Fritzy said in an overdramatic tone.
"Someone died again?" I asked.
"It was self-inflicted, to be specific. Yes, he jumped from the rooftop down to the ground floor," Onel answered.
"A-And the name?"
"From what I heard, it was Julse."
