Chapter 45: Outing with Friends (2)

"What did she want?" Rizor asked as I made my way back to the group.

He must have seen me speaking with Mia, as his expression darkened, conveying a silent warning: ’You better not be colluding with her!’ The best course of action was to tell the truth; if we intended to make our partnership last, there had to be at least a degree of trust between us.

"She wanted me to reconcile with Liam. She seemed worried about him—probably just playing the part of his girlfriend. Nothing to worry about."

"I don’t trust her. Girls like her are too ambitious; they’ll latch onto anyone who holds a bit of power. She’d get rid of Liam if she thought you had more worth to her."

"I know how she is, but I think she’s genuinely attached to him. She has strong convictions about Liam; I could tell that much when I was speaking to her. I don’t think she’d actually betray him."

I’m sure Rizor understood that much, considering he also has strong convictions about Liam. What is it that others see in him that I don’t? To be honest, I don’t think much of Liam. Perhaps there’s something preventing me from recognizing his worth.

"Yeah, you might be right. I also have the feeling she’s attached to him."

"It’s called love, morons! Stop saying she’s just attached," Ruby interjected, bonking us on the head. "Anyway, where are we going?"

"Hmm... let’s go to the movie theater. It’ll be fun," Yuan suggested, excitement evident on his face.

"You guys dragged me all the way out here for a movie?!" Rizor exclaimed, his expression darkening. "I would have been better off staying in my dorm."

"I’m surprised you actually came," I said, addressing Rizor.

"Not that I had a choice," he replied, his eyes darting to Yuan. It was clear he had been the one to force him to come.

Together, we headed over to the movie theater and bought four tickets with seats adjacent to one another. The film we were watching was a generic action movie where the main character’s dog is killed, prompting him to go on a killing spree, taking down major crime organizations single-handedly.

It wasn’t a bad movie, to be honest. In fact, I kind of liked the premise. I was sure Lucifer would enjoy it too; he loved talking about revenge. I could listen to his stories for hours about how he planned to get back at Michael and the other angels.

When I usually went to the movies with Nina, she mostly watched romance films, specifically NTR, and then she would cry for hours about how sad they were. It seemed pointless to me. What’s the point of watching something if it’s just going to make you sad?

"Did you enjoy the movie, Sin?" Ruby asked as we walked out of the theater.

"Yeah, it was a good movie."

"Hmm... I enjoyed it too. You know, this is my first time going out to watch a movie with friends."

"Really? Why is that?"

"She’s an outcast. Didn’t I tell you before?" Yuan interjected.

"Yeah, I’m kind of an outcast. I’m sure you’re wondering why, given how gorgeous I am."

"No, I already know why," Rizor said. "I did some digging into your background, Ruby Corson."

"I see, so you already know. You are well-informed, Rizor," Ruby replied, a hint of bitterness in her voice.

"Know what?" I asked.

"I’m a Fiend."

A Fiend? Fiends are a type of demon Lucifer created, specifically to take control of a vessel. When compared to the other demons, they weren’t all that powerful. Most of them got wiped out by spirits. I had heard that some of them were still alive and lived among humans, but I never expected Ruby to be one.

"So there you have it. That’s why I don’t get along with the other students in my grade. My family is noble, but we’re still hated because we’re demons."

"It would make more sense if you moved," Yuan suggested. "In some countries, demons hold all the power and are treated like royalty. It doesn’t make sense to stay in a country that is wary of you."

"Screw that! If you were truly better than them, you wouldn’t even think about running away to another country," Rizor said, growing agitated. "Show them that you’re better than they are in every way, and they’ll have no choice but to bow their heads. Running away just shows that you’re weak."

"Thanks for the encouragement, Rizor." It didn’t really sound like encouragement to me, but... "What matters is that I have friends now who accept me."

After the movie, we went to a café on the second floor of the mall. The café was beautifully decorated with flowers of all types and was bustling with people, including some high schoolers from different schools.

I noticed that the other students looked at us differently. Even the younger kids stared at us admiringly as we walked through the mall. Maybe it was our uniforms. The fact that we attended a supernatural high school seemed to make all the difference in how they treated us.

We sat in a relatively secluded area of the café. Picking up the menu, we ordered beverages for the four of us before continuing our conversation.

"So, you first-years have your exams coming up, don’t you?" Ruby said. "You don’t have to worry about your first exams; if you study, I’m sure you’ll do well. But things are a bit different for you guys, aren’t they?"

Ruby didn’t outright say it, but I understood what she was hinting at.

"You’re talking about Class S," Yuan said. "Yes, they are quite unfortunate."

"We won’t have to worry about that until next year," Rizor replied.

"I don’t think that’s the case. I’m sure they’re watching your progress. I’m pretty sure they already have a handful of names in mind."

Class S. At the beginning of the semester, we were told that in our second year, the best students would be selected from each class and placed in a new elite class called Class S.

"I’ve heard a lot about Class S," Yuan said. "They’ve been fighting to establish it for years and finally got government approval. The students in Class S will be specially trained in ways that defy human rights. I’d tell you to stay low and not cause any scenes, but the two of you have already made yourselves known. My condolences to you."
