Help! I unknowingly enrolled myself into a supernatural Academy-Chapter 75: The terrible Prank
Aiden’s discussion with Rainbow had left him mentally exhausted, and coupled with the lingering drowsiness he’d felt earlier, he finally succumbed to sleep. When he next opened his eyes, the digital clock on his nightstand glowed 11:30 PM.
"Shit, shit, shit! I’m almost late!" he muttered, leaping out of bed.
He hadn’t intended to sleep for so long, but the deep weariness had won. Across the room, Rainbow, the bird who was always sleeping, was sprawled on one of his pillows in a comical position—beak up, stomach up, clearly in a deep slumber. Aiden shook his head, deciding not to wake the tiny creature.
In his panic over being late, he completely forgot that he had told Carl, Ryker, and Zane to meet up in front of the dorm building, so they can all go together. All he could think about was the rapidly approaching midnight deadline, and missing the deadline means adding an extra date to their punishment.
So, He quickly grabbed the bedding and the three-day bag he had packed that evening and rushed out of his room, leaving Rainbow to his rest. As soon as he stepped into the shared sitting room, he walked right into Julian, who’s almost at Aiden’s bedroom door.
"Oh, you’re awake," Julian mumbled, rubbing his eyes and yawning for the third time. "I was still planning to come and get you myself. Bring the bag, let me help you with it, I will walk you to the abandoned building."
While Aiden appreciated the gesture, he didn’t want to disturb Julian’s rest. "Don’t worry about it, I can carry them myself," Aiden said.
Julian yawned once more. "Even if you can carry all this yourself, are you sure you’ll be able to walk there alone tonight, you should know that the whole school is resting now, you’ll be the only one Walking around in the night, can you handle that.?"
Aiden nodded confidently. "Of course, I will be able to walk there alone. The school is always bright, even at night, with all the electric lights and everything, so I will be able to go on my own. Do not worry about it."
Seeing Julian still wanted to insist, Aiden quickly cut him off. "Seriously, I will be fine on my own. You could barely keep your eyes open right now, so don’t worry about me. Just go to sleep."
Julian finally conceded, nodding. "I will come see you tomorrow after class, and you can spend tonight to write your part of the twenty-thousand-word essay, don’t worry I and Ashton will be there tomorrow to get the apology essay from you." he said.
Aiden nodded back. "I will make sure to finish my part, don’t worry. Just go back to your room to sleep. You look like a walking zombie right now."
Julian laughed weakly, walking back toward his room. Before he finally went inside, he waved at Aiden, and Aiden waved back.
Julian entered his room and closed the door.
Aiden stood in the quiet dorm apartment sitting room, retrieved the bag he had briefly dropped, and with his bedding in one hand and the bag in the other, he walked out of the shared dorm apartment.
Aiden took the elevator down the male dorm building, which was just one of the large structures on the Skyline Academy campus, it was so large that even though Zane and Ryker are also living in the building, Aiden had never run into them before.
He continued walking, and just as he had told Julian, the school grounds were well-lit by strategically placed lamps. He felt safe, confirming his decision to walk alone.
He looked up and noticed that the sky was black—a moonless night—but Aiden didn’t mind since he didn’t need the moon’s light anyway. Although Aiden found it strange that he was the only one walking in this large school in the middle of the night, he still wasn’t afraid.
That changed abruptly when he walked near the abandoned buildings where the class building assigned for their punishment was located.
It was like suddenly leaving the light behind to walk straight into the darkness.
Everything in front of Aiden was pitch black.
He immediately started regretting him telling Julian not to come with him, and the fact that it was a moonless night wasn’t helping at all. Aiden really didn’t feel like continuing to walk toward that darkness. He desperately wanted to go back, but he knew he couldn’t afford to miss the punishment.
He couldn’t help but curse Mr. Nikolai in his mind for giving them this godforsaken task that started at twelve in the midnight.
Aiden sighed, giving himself a quick pep talk to boost his confidence. "The school is safe. There’s nothing that could harm you," he whispered to himself.
He took out his phone, turned on its flashlight, and started walking into the darkness. Aiden was almost shivering from how scared he was, but he forced himself to continue. The incessant sound of the crickets made Aiden feel like he was the lead star in a low-budget horror movie. He even felt like something might just jump out of the bush to kill him at any moment.
Aiden finally got to the abandoned building, the intended location. He had seen this building before in the morning and evening, and Aiden had always thought that the building looked normal, like any other class building. But now, in the middle of the night, with its dilapidated and cracked walls, the structure was looking more and more like a horror house to Aiden.
Aiden’s teeth involuntarily ground against each other, and his hands were sweating profusely. He thought to himself, "If Mr. Nikolai’s wish had been to scare me to death, then the man’s wish is coming true, because I’m definitely scared."
He took a deep breath and muttered again, "I should have waited for Zane, Ryker, and Carl. At least we would have been able to come together. Why did I walk here all on my own, only to scare myself almost to death?" There was no one there to answer the rhetorical question.
Aiden breathed once more, forcing himself to walk into the building, as he still had to complete his punishment.
As Aiden entered the building, every step he took made the floorboards creak, proving the building was indeed old—a detail that made him even more nervous, as every horror movie house he had watched had creaking floors. He started walking toward the stairs and began climbing up. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Aiden assumed he was the first one to get here, and he started regretting not waiting for the others, worrying that the others might arrive late and that wicked Mr. Nikolai might add an extra day to their punishment.
Aiden was so lost in his thoughts about his punishment that he never expected that someone would suddenly appear in front of him, and that person was even holding a knife.
Aiden became so terrified that he lurched backward, but since he was at the top of the stairs, shifting backward meant he was going to tumble down the entire flight. Zane, who had been waiting there, hadn’t expected Aiden to be that scared or to react so strongly. When he saw Aiden’s hands flaring in the air and the other boy almost falling down the stairs, Zane quickly threw down the knife and caught Aiden’s arm. He dragged Aiden back toward him, pulling him into a tight hug.
Although Aiden was saved from a terrible fall, his bedding and bag were not, and they tumbled down the stairs with a loud thud.
Aiden glared up at Zane. "Are you perhaps crazy? Do you want to kill me or something? Why did you have to scare me like that? Don’t you have better things to do?"
Zane realized his mistake instantly. He had only been planning on scaring Aiden a little, but he hadn’t expected Aiden to be so easily terrified. Aiden had almost died because of him. Zane knew that Aiden was essentially human right now, without any supernatural power or healing ability yet, so if Aiden really fell, there was a high possibility that he might break his neck and die from the fall. The fact that he had almost killed Aiden made him feel genuinely remorseful, so he didn’t argue with Aiden as he normally would.
"I’m sorry," Zane said softly. "I didn’t mean to do that. I just wanted to prank you a little bit."
Aiden only snickered. As Aiden raised his head, his eyes landed on Ryker emerging from a nearby room. Aiden’s stomach dropped to his feet, because Zane was currently holding him tightly to his chest.
Aiden quickly said to Zane, his voice strained, "Let go of me."
Zane wanted to release Aiden at first, but he saw Aiden looking intently at a corner. Zane followed his gaze and saw Ryker. He understood immediately that Aiden had asked to be released because of Ryker, and a sudden spark of defiance or possessiveness flared in him.
"No, I won’t," Zane said, tightening his hold just a little. "I like holding you like this."
