"Done and dusted. Now it’s up to Daniel to complete the rest." He smiled, pleased with himself for achieving the desired results after the major blockage from the authorities. He knew why the local officials wanted the case to die down—the city election was approaching, and a scandal would be a hindrance. Especially for Alessandro, whose slate was supposed to be sparkling clean.

"Who wants a sweet bottle of milk..." He smiled, going to the cupboard for a can of milk to prepare for the infants, who were sucking on their adorable little fingers.

"Look at her, feeling powerful with that hideous mask on her face," Beatrice laughed. Her cohorts followed suit—not because they found it funny, but because disagreeing with Beatrice, especially given her own family’s top-five wealth, would land them in serious trouble.

"But I heard it’s a serious injury. Even with the mask, half her face still looks gorgeous. She appears mysterious, even more desirable," one lady defended Lily.

Beatrice whirled to face her, but the woman didn’t flinch.

"What? You know I’m right. Even with the mask, you still can’t compete with her. All you can do is gnash your teeth and move on," she stated matter-of-factly, then laughed and walked away.

Beatrice, deeply insulted, stared at her back, clenching her fists and tightening her grip on her dress.

"Who is she? Who the fuck is that whore?" she barked. Her trembling companions mumbled nervously.

"I don’t know. I’ve never seen her before. I think she’s new," one offered. Beatrice scowled and stormed off in anger.

Lily, standing apart at the opposite end, was lost in thought, gazing at the sky, away from the bubbling noise and her suffocating parents. But the peace she craved remained out of reach as she struggled with her mental health. Then, she felt a tap.

"Are you alright?" a soft, feminine voice asked, sounding genuinely worried.

Startled by the tone, Lily turned to see a blonde woman with intricately adorned hair, dressed in a crystalline gown that shimmered with every movement. She was beautiful, with a delicate allure.

"Okay—more than you can see," Lily answered too quickly. But as she prepared to engage further, she spotted her grandmother in the distance, giving her a vicious glare.

"Come here, child. We are having a family picture." Just like that, Lily left the kind stranger and approached her grandmother, who placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed so hard she almost cried out in pain.

"You useless thing. Today you will meet the man your father wants you to marry, and you will say yes! If not, your place in this family ends. You don’t want to end up in the slums—predators will eat you alive. A little thing like you won’t survive." The threat was enough to make her shudder.
