Chapter 211: Chapter 211 A trip to the past Vi

Excitement broke out among the other kids as they rejoiced and jumped for joy, but for Daniel, there was no celebration. He was shaking, trembling as the terrifying image of his father’s face haunted his imagination.

The memory of the cow whip and the metal belt made him want to weep. He ran to a far corner, falling to his knees and huddling under a table where no one could see him. There, he began to cry uncontrollably.

"I thought they said a God exists, so why did you allow me to fail?" he sobbed. "What have I ever done to deserve this? I worked so hard." He couldn’t compose himself as the tears rushed out, forming puddles beneath his delicate face.

Soon, he would have to go home empty-handed, and that would be his ruin. Death wasn’t even an option because he was too afraid to die. He had always wondered what it meant to pass away; he had even asked a teacher at his school before this nightmare began. He was told there was no heaven or hell, just darkness and loneliness—and since he didn’t want to be lonely, he didn’t want to die.

"Didn’t I try? No! I wasn’t supposed to fail!" Daniel yelled at himself, gripping his hair tightly. In a fit of despair, he nearly slammed his head against the wall, and then he actually did it. The impact was painful, hurting like hell, but at least it made him acutely aware of how badly he had messed up.

He was meant to be the savior of his family, but now he felt useless. Absolutely useless. The realization that he had nothing to give crushed his soul even further.

The sound of footsteps faded over time, but Daniel refused to stand. His stomach rumbled, but why should he eat? He had failed the very first trial. After eating, he would only have to face his nemesis, who was patiently waiting for any bad news to finish him off.

No, he would simply rot right where he was; he wasn’t going anywhere. That was his final plan until he noticed a shadow creeping nearby. Daniel clutched his feet and hid further, praying his father hadn’t found him. To his surprise, it wasn’t his father.

Xylander had forgotten his bag and had returned to the huge hall to collect it. He began hearing sniffles and muffled yells that sounded familiar, so he looked around. He sneaked about to find the source and was shocked to see the blond kid shaking violently.

To Xylander, it looked as if the boy was on the verge of a seizure. Panicking, Xylander stepped into the corner and pulled Daniel into a deep, protective embrace, patting his back.

"It’s okay, don’t fear anymore..." Xylander consoled him. Daniel, who had shut his eyes tight, snapped them open to find the young boy staring at him with beautiful hazel eyes.

Daniel felt as though he had been swimming in utter darkness, only to see a light reaching out, holding his hand and telling him to leave his sorrows behind.

"I’m here now..." Daniel thought he heard Xylander say, and he blinked. He kept his gaze fixed on Xylander, afraid that if he looked away, he would be left alone again to wallow in a pit where he couldn’t breathe.

"Take my hand, Daniel. You can talk to me." Xylander stretched out his palm, his eyes burning with intensity and sincerity. "I can help you. I don’t know why, but seeing you sad makes me unhappy. You were made to be happy, not like this."

Xylander kept his hand extended until Daniel finally took it. He was pulled up, landing against Xylander’s chest as he continued to cry.

"I practiced, Xylander. I promised I was good, but I don’t know why it went this way..." He wiped the tears that were choking him.

Xylander took hold of his face, bringing it closer. "I don’t know you, Daniel, and you don’t know me, but I can’t stop feeling like I need to protect you. I see nothing but truth in what you say, so I believe you. If you practiced that hard, it means you were sabotaged."

Xylander knew the second stage was currently underway and the final top five were being decided. He was missing it all to stay with Daniel, but he didn’t care. This boy was different—not boring like his other rich friends. This little cutie was intriguing, and Xylander wanted him to be happy.

"Why would they sabotage me? What did I ever do?" Daniel’s eyes turned glassy again, but Xylander brushed the tears away.

If he was sabotaged, it meant he was talented. To make that talent known, Xylander decided he had to bring it to the world and let people decide for themselves.

"Do you want to break the system?" he asked.

Daniel looked innocent and confused. "I don’t get it?"

Xylander smiled. He would break the system himself; Daniel didn’t need the details. He just needed to make this talent go worldwide. "Come to the music room. Let’s play some music. Daniel, sing your most personal piece for me."

Daniel didn’t expect the request. Singing for someone other than his father or a judge wasn’t his plan, but doing it for Xylander didn’t seem so bad. "But my personal piece is so heartbreaking. I don’t want to depress you..."

Xylander brushed the concern aside. He wanted this. Together, they held hands—Xylander tightening his grip—as he led Daniel to the music room deeper inside the hall.

Cameras rolled as they passed, but Daniel wasn’t conscious of them. His heart pounded like a drum at the thought of performing just for Xylander. Upon reaching the massive room filled with musical equipment, Xylander finally let go.

"We are going to make history right now," Xylander said. Unknown to Daniel, Xylander had already started a live stream on his social media account. "So, Daniel, can you do me the honors?"

He ushered him toward the large piano, but Daniel remained skeptical. "I don’t know, Xylander. Is this a good idea?"

Xylander handed him a microphone. "You were ignored by the judging team. It’s time to show them who is boss."

Daniel didn’t fully understand the implication, but he gained a spark of confidence. He took the mic and sat at the bench. Pressing a key, he hesitated and looked at Xylander, who now held a guitar and gave him a thumbs up. Daniel began:

"I feel your crushing weight on me... 🎵🎵

The way it turns me to stone... 🎵🎵

A frozen heart and mind..."

As the melody drifted through the room, the phone captured every second. Daniel grew more confident, pouring his heart, insecurities, and raw emotion into the song. Viewers watching the stream began to weep. Before the song ended, the live count had reached a staggering 100 million.

Xylander couldn’t help himself; he broke down, crying hard. The song was too much, too beautiful, and too sad.

"Come here, Daniel. Hug me."

Daniel stood up and went to him, and the two of them embraced deeply and passionately.
