Chapter 1969: Chapter 1737: Eating Chaff and Swallowing Vegetables (Part 2)

The innkeeper finally burst out laughing—don’t be fooled just because she’s selling them, but when she gets these ice creams in stock, her heart can’t help but tremble:

What kind of ice cream costs eight or nine bucks a piece wholesale! There’s even pricier stuff, but she couldn’t bear to bring them in.

It’s simply outrageous.

"Every weekend when the urban area gets crowded, young folks are more willing to splurge on these, so I brought some in. In the village, the most popular ones are still those old popsicles, like red bean bars."

Sigh.

Luxury is always for others.

The college students were biting into their old popsicles, asking, "Aunt, is Boss Song’s food at the mountain canteen any good?"

"Of course it’s good!"

The innkeeper replied without hesitation.

"Master Jiang on the mountain used to be a top-paid chef at a hotel, with a million-a-year salary! Now he’s cooking at this canteen, how could his skills be anything but excellent?"

"Plus all the fresh vegetables and meat, they’re delivered daily from the town, freshly cut and picked, without a trace of wilting."

In towns, the concept of strangers simply doesn’t exist.

No matter who you are, there’s always some sort of familial connection to be drawn. Those who deliver the vegetables and meat ride their tricycles back and forth, in just a couple of days they’ve been mapped out by everybody.

With these connections, and a few more chats, everyone knows what Lao Song’s family eats.

Though even if they don’t ask, whether things are fresh or not, they can taste it immediately.

In short, the innkeeper was very certain: "It tastes great, if only it was open! If it was, I’d gladly pay to eat there."

Otherwise, in this hot summer, having to cook for oneself, drenched in sweat, not to mention having no appetite once it’s done, and most of what’s made is quite half-hearted.

Unlike the mountain canteen, where the air-conditioning runs all day, without a care for the heat from the stove and the exhaust fan taking away the cool air, it’s such a luxury!

The college students don’t know the details, just hearing her assurance puts their minds at ease!

They’re crunching on their popsicles, when they simultaneously open their phones to check the location: "Why don’t we go check out the canteen?"

Let’s go, anyway, we’re all sweaty already, what’s the difference at this point.

The girls opened up an umbrella, while the boys sheepishly, having tanned under the sun for too long.

...

From Zhang Yanping’s inn to the mountain canteen, there’s indeed quite a lengthy uphill path.

In the sweltering heat, it’s quite a task to walk, but the young folks are full of energy, not feeling bothered at all, instead chattering away—

"Did you see the boss of the inn? He’s really refined and quite handsome, wonder if he has a girlfriend."

The girls started discussing, while the boys weren’t too happy.

"Hey, hey, hey, your boyfriend’s right here, why are you worrying about others?"

"What’s wrong with chatting? Besides, my roommate doesn’t have a boyfriend! Seeing someone nice-looking, shouldn’t I keep an eye out for her."

"Well, my buddy’s still single, why didn’t you say to introduce him?"

The other side rolled their eyes:

"What dream are you having? I’m willing to eat coarse food ’cause I can tough it out, why should I let my roommate suffer the same? Can’t she find someone clean and handsome?"

The moment those words were out, the crowd fell silent.

A moment later, the boyfriend looked at her suspiciously: "Why do I feel like you’re insulting me?"

The girlfriend replied righteously:

"Who’s insulting you? I’m very refined, I never use foul language."

"Really?"

"Yup."

The boys:... Weren’t they just being insulted?

Meanwhile, the girls resumed their lively discussion:

"Yeah, the boss really is quite handsome, that scholarly vibe is rare, just don’t know why he’s in the village..."

"Who cares where he is, our city is just a small town too..."

"Doesn’t seem much older than us, I think he’s younger than my boyfriend. Ah, I’ll ask when we head back down, if he’s really single, I’ll take a pic and show it to xx!"

Everyone was enthusiastic and lively, their mindset was very positive.

The boys wanted to say something, but recalling the innkeeper’s appearance, they fell silent.

They’re just tanned from too much summer activity, when winter comes—okay, even in winter they’d still be tanned, no way to get their fair skin back.

That annoying pretty boy!

Teacher Xin was oblivious to being cursed, he was just organizing the fully-booked inn once again, watching Zhang Yanping sneaking over like a thief, couldn’t help but laugh: "The place is fully booked now, your appearance actually wouldn’t affect much, no need to be this cautious."

"Still have to be a bit careful."

Zhang Yanping was quite shrewd: "If my identity as the innkeeper becomes widely known, next time when they argue and I make an appearance, it won’t have as much deterrent power."

Unlike now, whenever someone wants to stir up trouble, he stands there with a stern face, and the other party speaks much more politely.
