Her Dark Desires-Chapter 47: Small Sacrifice
Eliana arrived back at the house by 9 pm and rushed to the bedroom to see Zachary but he wasn’t there. She then went to his study and opened it without knocking.
She saw him quickly cover something with a book and wondered what he was hiding.
"You are back. Did you enjoy the auction?" Zach asked with a smile as he stood up to meet her.
Eliana just nodded and noticed the sadness in his eyes. How come she was just seeing it? Was she so focused on her pain that she didn’t even notice his own?
"If you truly enjoyed it then you would have bought something."
"Art isn’t my thing," Eliana said and was about to ask him what he was doing when he received a phone call.
Zachary saw that it was Ryan calling him and answered the call.
Seeing a frown on Zach’s face made Eli curious about what Ryan was telling him. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"I will right there," Zach replied to his brother and ended the call.
"You are going out?" Eliana asked.
"Ryan needs me for something, but I will be back as soon as I can. Don’t wait up for me." Zach replied and kissed her cheek before walking out.
Eliana sighed after he left and was about to leave his study when she remembered that he had hidden something when she came in. She walked to his desk and removed the book.
Her eyes immediately became watery when she saw the picture of their baby’s first ultrasound. Was this what he was looking at? He has always been there for her in her grief but she has never once been there for him. Charlotte was right, Zach also lost his child, and she was so focused on her sadness that she didn’t care how Zach was coping with the loss of his child as well.
The thought of that broke her heart because if Zach wasn’t trying to take care of her or ask her if she needed anything, he was in his studies, all alone with his grief, and she had never once cared to ask him if he was all right.
Eliana placed back the picture in the same position and went back to her room with thoughts of how to correct her wrong.
....
Carsiso Deck.
"Your brilliant idea was to bring me to a gambling den?" Zachary asked his brother with a frown.
Ryan smiled and said, "This gambling den belongs to the Carsiso’s."
"So it’s a place for money laundering?"
"Yes, but the police don’t have enough proof of that yet. Although I think they are just scared of going against a Mafia family."
"Ryan, what does this have to do with Mason? Why has it been so difficult to capture a random gangster?"
"Capturing him is not the problem. If you want, I can bring Mason to you right now, but..."
"But?"
"I found out he is the illegitimate son of Don Marcelo. It means if you kill him, the man will come for you and Eliana, and I know you can handle such situations yourself, but sister-in-law can’t." Ryan said.
Zachary looked at the casino and saw people gambling with smiles on their faces while those who had lost were looking angry and frustrated.
"Only son?" Zach asked.
"Only son," Ryan replied.
"We can’t get rid of the Carsiso by just finding evidence of their money laundering. A Mafia family like that can only be destroyed on the inside."
"And that is why we are here." Ryan smiled. One reason he loves his brother is for his intelligence. Zachary may be seen as a businessman, but he could swear that his brother was intelligent enough to pursue any career he wanted.
"Who better than to destroy the Carsiso than the unappreciated son-in-law," Ryan said and there was a crazy glint in his eyes as he spoke, one that made Zach uncomfortable.
"Let me guess, among all of Marcelo’s business, this Casino is the only thing he runs, right?" Zachary said, finally understanding why his brother had brought him here, but he did not like the idea. His brother’s career in the army would be at stake if this were to blow off in their face, and that was something he could not allow.
"You think it’s a bad idea," Ryan said as he saw a hint of disapproval in Zach’s face.
"It is a risky one and that is why we have to make him take the bait. If he doesn’t then we are screwed." Zach replied.
"Then let’s find out," Ryan said and led Zach to a secret room guided by a huge bulky man.
Ryan showed the man a card, and he was allowed inside with no questions asked.
They both walked inside a dimly lit room where they saw a man sitting on the couch with two women at his side.
Immediately, the man saw his guest, he told the women to leave him, and he also stood up to greet his visitors. "The black viper and the world’s best businessman, at least that’s what people know you as, right Zachary Sanders."
"Apart from me hearing that you are an unappreciated son-in-law, I don’t think I know you," Zachary said.
The man’s smile left his face immediately he was called an unappreciated son-in-law, but he suddenly smiled again and said, "Kai Robert. That’s my name."
"Never heard of it, it makes me wonder why you called mine with so much familiarity. Seeing that my brother had a pass to this place, I’m already guessing that you two had already talked." Zach said, glaring at his brother, who looked away.
"Yes, we talked but it’s easier said than done. Marcelo doesn’t have any legitimate sons, and I am married to his only daughter, but even at that, the bastard still doesn’t see me as enough fit to be his heir."
"Because you are not his blood. They probably see you as a gold digger." Zach replied.
Kai looked at Zach with a frown and said with sarcasm "Thank you for the clarification."
Zachary ignored him and continued, "If you want more than a casino, then you have to wait for him to make you his heir, but as long as Mason is alive, that will never happen."
"I can’t kill him. If I kill Mason, I will be killed by his father. Ryan told me Mason took something for you and the only way he can pay is death, but how do you plan to make him pay if killing him will backfire on you."
Zachary kept quiet for a moment as if he was in thought before he finally said, "Marcelo doesn’t agree with the harming of children and women, but for his son, he will bend that rule. We can’t do anything to Mason if Marcelo is still alive."
"Are you thinking of...hold on a minute, that’s a suicide mission," Kai shouted and looked at Ryan, hoping to talk some sense to his brother, but instead, Ryan was looking at Zach with admiration and a smile on his face. Are these two brothers crazy?
"I’m not saying we will assassinate him," Zachary said, seeing the panic all over Kai’si’s face.
Kai sighed in relief when he said that.
"The first thing we have to do is to spread the word that Mason has disobeyed one of their family rules by kidnapping a woman and killing her child. We will wait for Marcelo to disregard his own rule and save his son and then we will move to the next step."
"What is the next step?" Kai asked.
"Marcelo is already an old man, so convincing everyone that he has started to lose his mind and is deemed unfit to rule should not be that difficult, and when he is pushed out of his office as Don, the next news people will hear is that the great Marcelo Carsiso shot himself in the head." Zachary was determined to kill Mason, and to him, Marcelo was just a small sacrifice that needed to be made.
