High Martial Arts: Enlightenment after Practices-Chapter 155: Rescue
Xu Wuyi grunted in acknowledgment, his pace never slowing.
His senses were far sharper than Lin Yue’s. He could already faintly hear the roar of erupting Qi and Blood up ahead, along with a shriek filled with brutal rage.
The power contained within that shriek made the very air around them seem to tremble.
A few minutes later, the two arrived at the edge of Zone D14.
It was a vast, open space converted from a massive underground water regulation reservoir, with a ceiling over ten meters high.
Right now, the bottom of the reservoir was dry. In its place was a battlefield in utter disarray.
In the center of the area, five Martial Artists in City Defense Army uniforms were locked in a fierce battle, surrounding a colossal beast.
It was the Bone-Eroding Rat King!
Its body was far larger than an ordinary Bone-Eating Rat, comparable in size to a young calf. Its fur was a metallic dark gray, covered in white marks left by various blades, yet there were very few wounds that had actually pierced its defenses.
Its crimson eyes glowed like two small lanterns, brimming with madness and bloodlust.
Furthermore, its unusually developed foreclaws and incisors glinted with a cold, sinister light, clearly its primary weapons of attack.
The Rat King’s movements were incredibly swift, and its strength was astounding.
A single, casual swipe of its claw could carve deep gouges into the concrete floor.
When it roared, the saliva it sprayed would spatter onto the ground and immediately begin to corrode it with a HISS.
The five City Defense Army Martial Artists besieging it coordinated flawlessly. Two led the main assault while three provided support and harassment; they were clearly all seasoned veterans.
Their Life Energy Levels were generally between 20 and 22. The Standard Battle Sabers in their hands struck the Rat King repeatedly, but for the most part, they could only leave shallow marks, struggling to inflict any fatal damage.
Captain Chen Feng was among them, acting as one of the main assailants. His Thick-Backed Machete was heavy and powerful, and every chop whistled through the air, yet he could only manage to suppress a fraction of the Rat King’s offensive.
They had originally predicted that even if this rat swarm had a Rat King, it would be just over Energy Level 20 at most, having just broken through the threshold of a Martial Artist.
The five of them—all City Defense Army Martial Artists—should have been more than enough to take it down.
However, for some unknown reason, this Rat King had clearly mutated. Its power had surged, its Energy Level now exceeded 23, and they had been forced to call for reinforcements.
In fact, they had also requested aid from the City Guard Army, but its experts weren’t ready and would need at least ten more minutes to arrive.
The battle had reached a stalemate.
Relying on its tough hide and immense strength, the Rat King remained incredibly ferocious despite being surrounded. Its occasional explosive charges forced the City Defense Army Martial Artists to fall back and evade its onslaught.
"Its defense is incredible!" Lin Yue gasped from where she hid in the shadows of the entrance.
The Rat King was withstanding the attacks of multiple Martial Artists and only seemed to be getting more agitated, not seriously wounded.
It was even highly intelligent, as if it knew it couldn’t linger. It constantly tried to break through the encirclement, and the City Defense Army soldiers were already giving their all just to stop it.
Xu Wuyi, however, quickly scanned the battlefield, calmly analyzing the situation.
’The Rat King’s weak spots... Its eyes, mouth, and maybe its abdomen?’
’But its head is well-protected, and attacking its abdomen would be a risky close-range maneuver.’
Just then, enraged by the continuous attacks, the Rat King let out a sharp, ear-piercing screech.
Its massive body suddenly reared up on its hind legs. A faint glow emanated from its dark gray fur, and its already enormous frame seemed to swell by another size!
"Watch out! It’s going berserk!" Chen Feng roared as a warning to his teammates.
The berserk Rat King’s speed and power surged once more. It swept its claw horizontally, unleashing a vicious gust of wind that sent a Martial Artist attempting a flanking attack flying—man and saber both!
The Martial Artist slammed into a distant pipe wall, coughing up a mouthful of blood. He was unable to get up.
An opening instantly appeared in the encirclement!
The Rat King’s crimson eyes immediately locked onto the opening. Its hind legs tensed and then launched it forward like a gray bolt of lightning, right at the injured Martial Artist!
Its cavernous maw opened wide, aiming straight for the man’s head!
"Old Li!"
Chen Feng’s eyes went wide with fury, but he was too far away to help.
The other Martial Artists had also been forced back by the Rat King’s prior outburst and were too far away to intervene.
Just as the tragedy was about to unfold—
WHOOSH!
A sharp whistling sound suddenly tore through the air!
A streak of dark red light, like a lightning bolt tearing through the darkness, shot out. It moved so fast it seemed to arrive before it was even thrown, striking with unerring precision toward the Rat King’s crimson right eye!
It was Xu Wuyi!
The instant the Rat King had lunged to attack, he had already shot out from his hiding spot.
He didn’t opt to get closer. Instead, mid-sprint, he hurled the long spear in his hand with the force of a javelin!
Infused with his Qi and Blood, the spear flew too fast for anyone to react!
The Rat King clearly hadn’t anticipated the sudden attack. The lethal threat from its flank made it instinctively jerk its head aside.
SQUELCH!
Blood splattered!
The spear missed its eye but sank deep into the joint connecting the Rat King’s hard skull to its neck!
The tip penetrated nearly six inches deep, and a burst of dark red Qi and Blood Energy erupted from the wound.
"SCREEEEEE—!!!"
The Rat King let out its most agonizing shriek of the entire battle. Its forward charge came to a screeching halt, its massive body thrashing wildly from the intense pain. Green blood sprayed from the wound.
Not only had the unexpected spear throw grievously wounded the Rat King, but it had also interrupted what would have been a fatal pounce!
All the City Defense Army Martial Artists, including Captain Chen Feng, stared in shock toward the direction the spear had come from.
They saw a young figure in a black training uniform approaching the battlefield at an astonishing speed.
Though he was now unarmed, his calm eyes burned with a heart-stopping battle intent.
’It’s him?’ Chen Feng recognized Xu Wuyi, the freshman Martial Artist from Star Martial University.
He never would have imagined that the first to arrive as reinforcements, let alone one who could grievously wound the Rat King in a single strike, would be this young man.
Xu Wuyi didn’t pause for a second. In the same motion as throwing the spear to attract the Rat King’s attention and save the injured man, he was already closing the distance.
Grievously wounded, the Rat King’s savage nature was fully unleashed. It whipped its head around, locking its deathly gaze onto the charging Xu Wuyi.
It abandoned all other targets. Pawing at the ground, it kicked up a foul wind as it charged madly at Xu Wuyi!
It charged with enough force to grind the human who had wounded it into a paste!
"Watch out!"
Chen Feng and the other team members shouted in warning, moving to surround the beast.
But as he faced the madly charging Rat King, Xu Wuyi didn’t retreat. On the contrary, he sped up!
Within him, that pool of pure, dark-red-and-faintly-gold Qi and Blood instantly began to boil. The Hundred Refinements Melting Furnace technique roared to life. The Heart Fire in his Dantian flared, radiating a scorching power.
The instant before the Rat King could slam into him, Xu Wuyi executed his Instant Shadow Step to its absolute limit. With a sideways slide, he dodged the beast’s sharp claws by a hair’s breadth, brushing past its massive body!
At the same time, his right hand shot out like lightning and seized the shaft of the spear still buried deep in the Rat King’s neck!
