Chapter 655: Chapter 655 Biased

"Don’t be nervous," Leo said, his voice calm and steady, like he was trying to pour his certainty into her. "Do your best."

Bella sat in the backseat beside him, her fingers wrapped tightly around her pencil case, her bag of notes clutched to her chest like a shield. The car was stopped outside the university gates, with students streaming past in colorful backpacks and nervous clusters. The morning sun was bright and warm, spilling through the tinted windows and catching the gold in her hair.

She had never taken an exam offline before.

Not once.

All her learning had been alone, in her room, on her laptop. No classrooms. No proctors. No rows of desks and ticking clocks and the quiet rustle of nervous students. The thought of walking into that hall, of sitting among strangers, of having her knowledge tested in a room full of people made her stomach twist.

Her brown eyes were wide, her lips pressed together, her cheeks slightly pale despite the warmth of the morning.

Leo watched her. His hand found hers, warm and steady, his thumb brushing over her knuckles.

"You’ve got this," he said quietly.

She looked at him, searching his face for something, reassurance or maybe permission to be scared. "What if I freeze?"

"You won’t."

"What if I forget everything?"

"You won’t."

"What if—"

"Bella." He squeezed her hand. "You hacked into government systems before breakfast when you were seventeen. You saved my company’s base, which no ordinary person can do. You uncovered an assassin’s identity in an hour. You can take a placement exam."

She bit her lip. "That’s different."

"How?"

"Those things were instinct." She searched for the word. "This is official."

Leo’s lips curved. "You’re afraid of a piece of paper?"

"I’m afraid of failing."

"You won’t fail."

"You don’t know that."

He tilted her chin up with his finger, forcing her to meet his eyes. "I know you. I know what you’re capable of. And I know that in three hours, you’re going to walk out of that building with a score so high they’ll offer you a scholarship on the spot."

Bella’s cheeks flushed. "You’re biased."

"I’m honest." Leo said, his lips curving into a smile.

She shook her head, but she was smiling now, just a little.

He reached over and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Go. Before you’re late."

She took a breath. She nodded. Then she opened the car door and stepped out into the sunlight.

The campus was alive around her. Students laughing, birds singing, the distant sound of a fountain somewhere. She adjusted her bag on her shoulder, tucked her pencil case under her arm, and turned back to the car.

Leo was watching her.

She waved.

He nodded.

Then she walked toward the exam hall, her ponytail swinging behind her, her steps steady despite the butterflies in her stomach.

She was wearing comfortable clothes today, soft navy trousers, a cream colored top, and simple flats. No makeup except a touch of lip balm. Her hair was pulled back in a high ponytail, with loose strands framing her face. She looked young and youthful, beautiful in a way that had nothing to do with designer dresses or red lips.

The sun caught her brown eyes as she glanced back one more time, and they sparkled, warm and bright, full of life.

Leo watched her until she disappeared through the doors.

He didn’t blink. He didn’t move. He hardly seemed to breathe.

His gray eyes were fixed on the spot where she had vanished, his expression soft, almost reverent.

In the front seat, Assistant Three sat frozen, his hands on the steering wheel, his eyes flicking between the rearview mirror and the empty sidewalk.

He had worked for Leo for years. He had seen him negotiate with enemies, command rooms full of powerful men, walk through danger without flinching. He had never seen him look like this, as if the sun had gone out and nothing else in the world existed.

"Sir?" Assistant Three said carefully.

Leo didn’t respond.

"Sir, should I—"

"Wait."

Assistant Three closed his mouth.

Leo kept staring at the doors where Bella had disappeared. His jaw was relaxed. His hands rested loose on his knees. But his eyes were intense, focused, utterly absorbed.

Assistant Three had seen obsession before. He had seen men lose themselves in power, in money, in revenge. But this was different. This wasn’t obsession with something Leo wanted. This was obsession with something he already had.

His boss was whipped. Completely, utterly, irrevocably whipped. And he didn’t even seem to care.

The morning sun climbed higher. The campus grew busier. Students came and went, laughing and talking, living their ordinary lives.

Leo sat in the backseat, waiting.

He didn’t check his phone. He didn’t make calls. He didn’t do any of the things that usually filled his time. He just waited for her.

Assistant Three cleared his throat. "Sir, we have a meeting at—"

"Cancel it."

"Sir—"

"She’s taking an exam. I’m not leaving."

Assistant Three nodded slowly, pulling out his phone to cancel the meeting. He didn’t ask questions. He didn’t need to. The answer was written all over his boss’s face.

Leo leaned back against the seat, his eyes still fixed on the building where his wife was proving, once again, how extraordinary she was.

"She’s going to do great," he said quietly.

Assistant Three wasn’t sure if he was supposed to respond. "Yes, sir."

"She’s going to walk out of there and tell me it was easy."

"I’m sure she will, sir."

"She’s brilliant. You know that?"

Assistant Three had never heard Leo talk this much about anything. "I’ve heard, sir."

Leo smiled, small and private. "She’s going to change the world."

Assistant Three looked at his boss in the rearview mirror. The great Leonardo Moretti, feared by enemies, respected by allies, cold as ice and sharp as a blade, was sitting in a parked car outside a university, waiting for his wife to finish an exam, talking about her like she hung the moon.

"Yes, sir," Assistant Three said. "I believe she will."

Leo nodded, satisfied, and went back to watching the doors.

Throughout all of this, Leo kept talking about Bella. Assistant Three was shocked at how much his boss was talking today. Assistant Three responded to whatever his boss said, and in return, Leo raised his salary.

He was overjoyed. Hahahahaha.
