His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 29: Humiliation
Evan Shepherd is the heartthrob of the planning department. Lots of girls like him, and seeing him getting close to Kiana Sutton, everyone likes Kiana less and less.
Kiana has no idea about any of this, every day she’s as busy as a spinning top.
This morning, Kiana almost arrived late, so she rode her bike faster than usual, and just as she was getting near the parking lot, she crashed into another girl on an electric scooter.
Kiana’s arm got scraped, and the girl yelped in pain.
Kiana didn’t even care about her beloved bike; she rushed over anxiously to help the girl up. "Are you okay?"
She hurriedly signed in hand gestures, forgetting the girl might not understand.
"I’m fine, hurry, hurry... we’re running out of time, if we’re late by even one minute, I’ll lose my full attendance bonus this month!"
After parking their bikes, they dashed into the elevator, clocking in just in time, both letting out a heavy sigh of relief, exchanging smiles.
Then the girl exclaimed in surprise, "Hey, you’re with the planning department too? Are you new?"
Kiana nodded, went to her desk, picked up a pen and wrote on a piece of paper: "Hello, I’m Kiana Sutton."
"Hi, hi! I’m Amy Manning. I was sick and took a week off recently. Didn’t expect such a pretty and sweet girl to join our department while I was out!"
Kiana gave a gentle, lovely smile.
"Amy..."
When a colleague called her, Amy smiled at Kiana, "I’m gonna go check on them, okay?"
Kiana nodded, noticing the unpleasant looks from those people, her brows slightly furrowed.
"Amy, why did you come in with that mute? Do you even know what kind of person she is?"
Amy was exasperated, "She’s our new colleague. Even if she can’t speak, you can’t just call her a mute! That’s hurtful!"
"Ugh, you’re defending her? Do you know that in the week you were away, she even got cozy with your dream guy?"
Amy’s jaw dropped in shock, "What? She’s with President Sinclair?"
"...Aren’t you into Evan Shepherd?"
At that moment, another colleague walked by with a coffee, "Amy, don’t be so naïve. If you’d come in any later, you’d be drinking their wedding toast."
While they were talking, Evan Shepherd went over to Kiana’s desk. Seeing the injury on her arm, he quickly brought disinfectant and a band-aid.
Even though they were friends, Kiana still didn’t like unfamiliar men getting close to her. She fumbled trying to refuse, when suddenly someone shouted, "President Sinclair!"
Kiana jerked her head up and saw Ethan Sinclair had arrived at the planning department at some point, his face dark and stormy, with Stella Lyncg looking smug right next to him.
Kiana’s heart trembled under Ethan’s sharp, icy glare. As she stood there stunned, Evan was already sticking the band-aid onto her arm.
By the time Kiana snapped back, Evan had stepped away. After giving her a quick smile, he looked towards Ethan, as if waiting for him to give directions.
With Ethan’s arrival, the whole planning department seemed to have plunged into an ice cellar; no one dared to make a sound.
"Get on with your work!"
Ethan left these cold words behind, then went into Harold Young’s office.
Harold was scared out of his wits, thinking something big had happened.
But Ethan just sat on the sofa, glanced over a few project proposals, and left.
When he left, he didn’t spare Kiana a glance, and only after he left did the department return to normal.
Kiana stared at the band-aid on her arm, feeling all kinds of mixed emotions.
After a busy morning, during lunch, Amy came to Kiana looking serious. "Miss Sutton, are you dating Evan Shepherd?"
Kiana’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Before she could explain, Evan came over and, a bit embarrassed, patted Amy on the head. "What nonsense are you talking? Kiana and I are just friends, sometimes we work overtime or grab food together, that’s it. Who’s spreading rumors to you?"
Being patted on the head by her crush, Amy’s cheeks turned red. "You’re really not together?"
Evan: "No."
Kiana shook her head too.
Amy let out a huge sigh of relief, regaining her cheerfulness, "Then count me in next time! Let’s have lunch together."
Evan’s smile was gentle, "Sure."
As both of them looked at her, Kiana also smiled and nodded.
But the next moment, a special text alert sounded suddenly, making Kiana’s heart jump violently.
Three years married, Ethan Sinclair had never contacted Kiana on his own—he always called for her through Nathan Lawson.
The last time she saved Ethan’s number, she set a unique ringtone for him, but she never expected Ethan would ever text her.
So when she heard the ringtone, she felt both excited and nervous.
She picked up her phone, and sure enough—it was a text from Ethan Sinclair.
"Come to my office!"
Kiana’s heart beat wildly. She apologized to Evan and Amy, "Sorry, I have something I need to take care of. You guys go eat first."
"Oh—our first meal together and you’re standing me up!"
Noticing Kiana’s awkwardness, Evan came to her rescue, "Kiana has things to do. Let’s go eat on our own."
Kiana gave Evan a grateful look. After the two left, she snuck off to Ethan’s office.
"Come here!"
Kiana walked toward Ethan one step at a time. He was wearing a gray tie; she couldn’t tell what mood he was in.
Kiana stood at the desk, looking at Ethan’s handsome face, slowly gesturing, "You... wanted to see me about something?"
"Come here!"
Ethan coldly repeated. Kiana looked at the desk between them and walked around to face him directly.
The next second, Ethan shoved her whole body down against the desk. Kiana was startled. Before she could react, her arm suddenly throbbed with pain.
Ethan mercilessly ripped off the band-aid from her arm.
The bandage came off with a bit of flesh, and blood instantly welled up.
Ethan threw the band-aid into the trash in disgust, then stuck his finger in front of Kiana’s mouth, his cold eyes narrowing at her, "Dirty. Lick it clean."
Kiana’s eyes flew wide in shock, feeling utterly humiliated.
Ethan didn’t wait for her reaction; he shoved his finger into her mouth. Kiana tried to push him away, but couldn’t budge him at all.
Angry, anxious, and humiliated, tears suddenly streamed down her face.
She had thought that things were finally looking up after joining the planning department, but unexpectedly...
Ethan stared at her coldly, a mocking smile curling on his lips, "I really underestimated you. Just a few days in the planning department, and you’ve already got other men falling over themselves to please you."
"Cough, cough..."
Kiana retched painfully. Seeing her tear-streaked face, Ethan’s eyes darkened, and he leaned down to bite down on her lips...
The desk was hard; Kiana gripped Ethan’s shirt tightly, gritting her teeth to endure his fury.
"Knock, knock, knock..."
Suddenly, the office door was knocked on, and Stella’s voice came from outside, "Brother Ethan, are you in there?"
