His Naughty Lessons-Chapter 302: It’s a Tradition
Chapter 302: It’s a Tradition
** Harper **
The wedding dress was a masterpiece from Sean, one that he had spent a whopping six months working on. Taking a completely different approach from the extravagant evening gown last year, he had created something not at all similar this time, yet even more breathtaking.
The overall design was a classic A-line, simple at first glance with the standard off-the-shoulder neckline and chapel-length train. Nothing showy or dramatic like the asymmetrical patterns, sheer fabric, or hanging shoulder bands. But the beauty was all in the details. Gorgeous floral laces flowed from the bodice all the way down to the hem of the train, intricate yet elegant, giving off a French country vibe that resonated with the feel of the venue. The silk itself was encrusted with thousands of diamonds throughout, with the largest one centered on the bodice like a pendant and the smallest ones so tiny that they were almost impossible to see. Only the brilliant sparkles betrayed their existence, making the whole gown glitter like a jewel of its own.
Combined with a delicate neckline that accentuated Harper’s collarbones like magic, and those misty layers of skirt that draped in a graceful flare down her waist, and a matching veil with crystals that seemed to blend into one with the dress ... The design was like a signature creation made with all of Harper’s dreams in mind, and she couldn’t have even imagined anything more romantic, more fairytale-like than this wedding day look.
She couldn’t stop trying to envision Eli’s face when he finally got to see her. He should like it too, right?
By the time everyone was done with her hair and makeup, Harper was already itching to get her hands on the dress. After examining the final touchups and confirming that she loved them, her eyes once again flew straight to the dress before she even got out of the chair.
"Alright, time for the real deal now. Everyone out." Chelsea was quick to understand what the bride was thinking, getting smoothly into her role as the maid of honor and shooing all the bridesmaids to their own preparation room. She herself stayed to help Harper, and she whistled when she darted admiring glances between the dress and the bride.
"You’re really going for the bride of the century, girl. What is it like to have a fiancé to pick up the bill for such a princess gown?"
Harper snorted a laugh. "You know what, I honestly have no idea how much this even costs. I did ask the designer to use rhinestones instead of real diamonds, but he said Eli would murder him if he knew the material wasn’t the absolute best, so I surrendered."
"Hmm, I can totally see that ... Though you didn’t answer my question, sweetheart."
Harper raised an amused eyebrow, knowing her best friend was set on getting a good tease out of her today. "What, you want to try out the experience too? I think Tyler happens to be making a lot of money these days, with his company doing so much expansion right in his department. Aren’t you tempted?"
Ohh, that might just be the first time in her life that she got to see a slightly shy look cross Chelsea’s face.
Ever since Tyler’s move into the city last year, something interesting had definitely been going on between these two. Neither had admitted that they were dating, but from how frequently they saw each other and how familiarly they acted around each other, it was obvious that something was happening. Harper had tried multiple times to pry the secrets out of her bestie, though from as far as she could tell, it appeared that the issue was on Tyler’s side ...
"I doubt he’s interested. And besides, even if he is, he’s not the type of lovestruck idiot like your fiancé to be willing to spend that much on just a wedding." Chelsea shrugged. "And not like I can pull off these designer dresses like you do anyway. So come on, let’s get you in it and see how gorgeous you really are with the whole package."
"Hey, don’t change the subject." The good thing about leaving enough time to spare in the schedule was that it left a chance for quick chats like this. Harper nudged Chelsea’s elbow, giving her a playful but somewhat serious smile. "I think he likes you. He’s just not the type to trust popular girls very easily — you’ve seen how he was with Eli back at the beginning. You should consider being the one to make a move first."
Although it wasn’t Harper’s place to be the relationship guru, she knew her brother, and she knew Chelsea was smart enough to get the point. She was right. A thoughtful look crossed Chelsea’s face as the girl pondered her words.
"Today would be a great day for that, by the way." Harper casually pointed out. "The maid of honor and the best man ... It’s kind of a tradition, isn’t it? I bet he’ll be thinking about things when he sees you walking down the aisle before me. So just give him some looks ... And I’ll make sure I throw the bouquet in your direction as much as I can, too."
"Ohh, you are becoming a bad girl full of bad ideas." Now the suggestions were bringing a big wicked smile to Chelsea’s face. "What has Eli done to you over the past year, my dear innocent friend? And is he going to throw the garter at Tyler as well so we can get everyone talking?"
"Naaah, that’s never going to happen." Harper choked on a laugh. "Eli is too possessive to hand my things to anyone else, so no garter throwing. You’re on your own with that." freēwēbnovel.com
The two of them continued on to reminisce about Harper’s tarnished innocence and Eli’s hopeless jealousy for a little while, until the alarm on Harper’s phone went off.
"Alrighty then, dress time." Harper reached up for the hanger, and with Chelsea’s help, carefully took the heavy gown off of its perching spot on the wall. "Ready?"
