Chapter 309: Her Destiny. (Please do not purchase)
Arissa pressed her face on the tinted glass, staring outside the streets as the car moved. She would have loved to spend time with Nicklaus since he had no work to do and wouldn’t leave for the company today but she also wanted to spend time with Adele.
Surely her sister has watched the news and she wants to know how she feels and comfort her if need be.
Her mind traveled back to what transpired between her and Nicklaus after their short but blissful lovemaking.
[Flash back]
When Nicklaus pulled away from the kiss, he instantly pulled Arissa into a big tight hit and pressed her head on his chest.
Arissa felt protected. The hug made her feel protected and added with how well he secured her to his arm as if she were an egg, made her heart fluster.
She felt tears about to leave her eyes and she rubbed her face on his chest to send it away and not let it drop.
Still hugging her, Nicklaus sat back in his seat and cradled her into his arms like a treasured egg.
He kissed her forehead deeply and combed her hair backward with his fingers and a gentle smile on his lips.
Arissa softly closed her eyes and wrapped her hand around him, enjoying how he massaged her hair and calmed her down. Initially, she felt tensed up when he declared her as his.
She was lost for words and it gave her a banging headache but now she felt alright. His hold and massage did all of it.
"You changed a lot," Arissa murmured, rubbing her hand softly in his arm.
Nicklaus chuckled. He leaned down and placed kisses on both of her eyelids. Afterward, he pressed his forehead on hers and took in a short breath. "Have my new self finally met your standard in the type of man you want your kids to call father?"
Arissa’s heart raced and her jaw dropped. She tried to walk away only to realize he still held her in that protective way and had no plans to let her off.
She felt tingles all over her body. She took in gulps of saliva, trying to moisten her throat so she could speak but that was impossible. No word left her lips even after she took in multiple gulps. She just stayed there, staring back at him with a baffled expression.
Nicklaus smiled softly at her and sat up straight. He pulled her into a hug in their sitting position, placed a kiss on the center of her head, and said, "I guess my change isn’t up to that level yet. Right?"
Arissa’s heart leaped once more. She had no idea what to say. Saying a yes to him would sound unreasonable and that’s the same way saying a no would sound.
The reasons are that she can’t tell their marriage stance right now, and neither can push Mrs. Wyatt’s warnings to the back of her head.
Arissa pressed her hand on his chest, pushed him softly off herself, and looked into his dark eyes, "I can’t give an answer to that at this current moment," she placed a quick kiss on his lips, "How about when I get back?" she tried to buy her way out so she would not awkwardly move out of the conversation.
She climbed off his body and Nicklaus held her wrist. She turned to him with wide eyes like that of a criminal caught trying to run.
Nicklaus stared deeply into her eyes before saying, "You must be honest with me, promise?"
Arissa nodded with relief at having to answer a single question to be free, "Promise," she bargained and sealed it with another kiss. She pulled away and smiled at him.
Nicklaus nodded at her smile and picked up her clothes from the floor for her. Standing up from his seat, he tucked his little man into his pants and gestured for her to sit.
...
[End of flashback]
A shiver ran through Arissa at the thought of his words and it made her uneasy. The part where he claimed her as he startled her a little.
Judging from the moments she had spent with Nicklaus, she knew him to be goal-orientated, possessive, and determined.
A few of his actions screamed possessiveness. He doesn’t love her yet but he’s already so possessive and after what he declared calling her his, she feared what might happen.
Goosebumps filled her whole skin at the thought of Nicklaus being obsessed with her when things perhaps one day go wrong between them.
She has accepted that she loves him and would surely accept his love if he reciprocates it.
Arissa came to realize that this was her fate and destiny. Fighting it or trying to fight it would only place her in a tight position and confuse her more.
A small smile graced her like when she remembered how hard she fought in the past to be offered back her freedom.
The twists of life were just so unpredictable and she wished she had foreseen this day when she would fall head over heels in love with Nicklaus. If she had foreseen this day, she would have avoided the hell out of him so it wouldn’t break her heart when the divorce came out into the open.
Nicklaus’s words from earlier where he claimed her gave her a bit of an assurance that he might let her stay with him but that’s not the case here. The higher-ups were the real headache she would have in her marriage.
Now with her father in prison, she feared for the unknown. Who knows, Nicklaus might have to get married to someone else for more promotions and at that thought, her body shivered and her smile was wiped off her face.
Mrs. Wyatt mentioned something that meant Nicklaus getting married for more power if the higher-ups wanted him to and it caused blood to drain from her face in a bad way.
She expected her father going to prison to be the end of it all but it doesn’t seem to be the end of it all. Arissa felt like she had yet to see the real storm now that she had fallen for Nicklaus and the realization shattered her heart into a thousand pieces.
