His Toxic Addiction-Chapter 354: He Felt Abandoned.
Chapter 354: He Felt Abandoned.
Nicklaus took his eyes off his paperwork and fixed his eyes on his phone at one ring. He picked up the phone and when he saw it was from Mr. Adams, he swiped towards the answer space without much thought.
He needed something else other than his paperwork to attend to and although he doesn’t welcome calls from Mr. Adams, the call seemed to be a good distraction.
"Go on," he ordered the moment the call was connected, expecting it to be something worth his time and attention.
However, a few minutes into the call, his jaw clenched in the hardest way possible. His fist on his table clenched so hard that his knuckles turned white and he tried to hold himself.
He forcefully held himself back from getting mad at Mr. Adams in the most disrespectful way. Giving the man the title of being Arissa’s biological dad, he decided to be as respectful as he could but he wasn’t able to. He could not.
It annoyed him that Mr. Adams had just indirectly caused him another issue he should worry about. He has Robert and his daughter’s case at the back of his mind and now this.
What was he thinking and what authority does he think he has? Was letting him go away from under his watch a bad decision?
"Who permitted you to do all of what you just said? Have I perhaps overruled my kindness to you?" he asked, biting the tip of his tongue to hold himself back.
Mr. Adams’s face at the other end froze. Knowing Nicklaus, he expected just nods of improvement from Nicklaus even if he didn’t get words of approval from him and not the question the young man asked, "You did not permit me but I felt it was worth it. The man would come after my daughter soon so I decided to do that. I want to know the affairs that go on in his house and also, the exploxion_"
Nicklaus stood up from his seat and thundered, "Shut up Mr. Adams," he hated the fact that the man tried justifying himself, "My wife belongs to me to protect. You would have protected her when you had the chance to. What do you think you are doing right now? Protection her or endangering her?"
Mr. Adams became speechless.
"Speak," Nicklaus ordered. "What runs through that mind of yours? Do you think this is some of Alfred’s plot you can just walk in and out of? Why did you not inform me?" his voice came out piercing cold and it stabbed Mr. Adams repeatedly.
Nicklaus went on immediately, his voice coming out disappointed, "I expected her to feel more secure with you but you just showed me how wrong I was,"
A low sigh escaped Mr. Adams’s lips at the other end, which had her best interest in mind. I harbor no ill intention towards her," he tried to explain and hoped Nicklaus would hear him out.
Nicklaus hissed harshly, "Best interest? Best interest by doing what you wish and informing me when you feel like you might be in some sort of danger?"
Mr. Adams reduced his voice as he tried coaxing, "I want you to understand some_"
Nicklaus cut him off, "Do you know it’s my wife’s affair we speak about and it shouldn’t be taken lightly. What do you want me to understand here? Are_" he paused when he heard an incoming call from the other phone, the one that held his hotline.
"I’ll call you back and when I do, you better have a better explanation for all of these. And also, figure ways to bury this hatch because I least expected this from you," he fumed and hung up on Mr. Adams.
He stretched his hand towards his other phone. Only Mrs. Wyatt, Arissa, Geal, and Mr. Wyatt could access him through this line and that was why he hung up his phone call with Mr. Adams to reply to them.
When he picked up his phone and saw it was his wife on the phone, his angered heart calmed down. He never knew how tired of everything he was until he realized he needed her comfort. Just staring at her name gladdened his heart and the urge to hold her close to himself coated his heart.
He immediately switched over to a video call and when he saw her face, a low sigh of relief letting go of his pent-up anger and frustration left his lips.
He stared deeply at her and the gentle looks his eyes held read so much love and adoration. No one needs to be told of how much he loves her because his fondness towards her covers his whole face and leaves no room for other emotions.
"I look like a whole mess, you should have informed me first," Arissa complained as she tried arranging her shattered hair while walking away from Adele and Jocelyn.
Nicklaus smiled handsomely and gently took his seat, "You don’t need to tell me that. Tell me you don’t want to see me and I’ll grant your wish," he smirked at the end of his words and raised a daring brow at her.
Arissa blinked at him adorably and chuckled, "You know I would never wish that. I wouldn’t have called if I wasn’t thinking about you,"
"Really?" Nicklaus decided to tease her with her words and his voice came out loving, "Tell more about it, baby. What thoughts filled your head about me?"
Arissa blushed. She passed the two bodies on the bed a side look and when she saw them all forced on her, trying to catch winds of her conversation, she released a low grunt and walked further away.
"Who is giving you a hard time?" Nicklaus asked at the sound of her grunt. He sat up in his seat to listen more attentively and know more about who had such power without the fear of who she was.
Arissa felt something wrong with the question and she was right about it when she saw how strict his expression had become and how he sat upright.
She smiled at him, "No one," she replied.
Nicklaus raised a brow at her and she flashed him a beautiful smile as she tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.
Nicklaus relaxed back into his seat and it was a clue to Arissa that he now believed her. She blew him a kiss which to her outermost surprise he caught sweetly and placed it on his chest, where his heart lies.
She giggled. She never expected him to react to a kiss as childish as that. She even expected a neutral expression from him but Nicklaus caught her off guard when he mouthed a ’thank you,’ to her.
She licked her lower lips sweetly and decided to break the reason she called him, "Nick, I won’t be coming home tonight,"
The smile on Nicklaus’s face and his excited expression wiped off his face and became that of an abandoned puppy, "Why?" in all honestly, he truly felt abandoned. She promised him to be back home by 6 pm and now, a few minutes before six pm, she decided to drop some new information, worse than the other. It was unfair to him.
He has been looking forward to 6 p.m.
"I want to spend the night with Adele. She is already discharged and I want to spend her first night out of the hospital and in her new apartment with her," she explained, her voice sounding comforting when she saw Nicklaus’s expression.
Nicklaus nodded and he forced his face to brighten up for her. He doesn’t want her feeling torn because of him.
"That’s okay," he agreed, "Send my regards to them," he told her.
Arissa nodded, "You should do that," she advised him.
Nicklaus chuckled, "No, Love. You of all people should know how bad my communication skills are."
"You are a man of few words," Arissa agreed, "But that doesn’t change the fact that you speak when it comes to me," she flashed him a cute grin, "Can’t you do it for the others?"
Nicklaus eyed her and traced the outline of her lips with his fingers. He met her gaze and answered, "Arissa, I’m different from you because to me you are different from the others. I want you to know that," his voice sounded low and highly sensual and it caused Arissa to become slightly numb.
She stared back at him with the same intensity of his fondness and nodded, "Okay. I’ll put it in words for you. See you tomorrow then,"
Nicklaus sighed, "See you tomorrow," he agreed and added almost immediately, "Please text me the address of the house you purchased, and mind you, I can be at your door as early as five am," he warned.
Arissa’s eyes glowed with love, "I will and I don’t mind how early you arrive at the door. I miss you already," she told him.
Nicklaus smiled at her brutal honesty that almost caused him to rush down to where she was and hold her, "Don’t think so much about me, and enjoy yourself. Also, I’ll send Lukas to you,"
Arissa blinked at how thoughtful he could be. "Thank you," she said, attached with a wink as she now struggled on how to end the call or how to look away from him.
