Chapter 401: There’s So Much You Don’t Know.

The moment Arissa ended her call with Collins, a voice message found its way into her phone. Hearing the notification, she immediately swiped up to see who it could come from.

However, to her astonishment, it was from an unknown number. Curiously, she pressed the voice note to play out.

"I’m here for Jing alone. She’s the reason I came down here and I want to speak to her. Do not interfere even if I decide to get married to her now,"

Arissa frowned when she finished listening to the voice note. Wait... That was Nicklaus’s voice.

It surprised her she heard Nicklaus’s voice speaking of marriage to someone who isn’t herself. Also, why would Nicklaus send her something like this with a strange number?

Disturbed, she replayed the voice note. Then, a message came in abruptly, reading, "Your husband seems to be in a haste to abandon you since you no longer have any benefits," fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Arissa frowned. She finally understood the whole process. Surely, Nicklaus won’t send her something like this without an explanation.

Taking in soft breaths, she replied to the message. "Who are you?"

The moment she sent that message, her phone rang. Seeing it was from the unknown number, she immediately swiped over to the answer space.

"Mrs. Arissa Wyatt or should I say, Miss Arissa Lincoln?" the voice spoke up the moment the call got connected.

The frown on Arissa’s face tightened, "Who are you? What are you talking about?" From the voice of the person, the person seemed advanced in age so she decided to have a drop of respect.

"Did you listen to what I sent?" The voice asked, sounding a bit serious.

Arissa stood up from the couch. She held the parting of her night robe together to control her emotions. Crossing an arm around her stomach, she chuckled, "So what? What’s your point, spit it out," she said firmly.

"My point? Did you not hear it for yourself? Your husband is about to get married to someone else for benefits," the voice replied.

Arissa rolled her eyes, "Lies," she said in a taunting voice. She heard Nicklaus speaking in the voicemail but for some strange reason, she refused to believe it and again, there seemed to be nothing wrong with the voice note.

The voice at the other end chuckled, "It seems you no longer know the voice of your beloved husband,"

"I_"

"His company is burdened. Do you know the financial situation of his company? I’m sure you don’t," the voice laughed, "His company lost a hundred million dollars in just a day. How much do you think he might lose tomorrow? If the stock price continues to plummet, his company will be ruined... not by anyone, but by you," he let out a maniac laugh at the end.

"What?" Arissa was taken aback. She trembled slightly.

"There’s something you can do," the voice added with a smile after successfully grabbing her attention.

Her phone beamed repeatedly again, causing her to take it inches off her ear. Doing that, she saw more messages from the number. They were all pictures.

Instantly, she downloaded the pictures and swiped through them. The skin between her brows furrowed.

The pictures were about Nicklaus’s stocks, showing how low they reduced by the seconds. She took her time to study each one of them and her confusion gave way to anger.

"How did you reach my number?" was the first question she asked after studying the picture and taking note of the low stocks.

"Should that be the question? Do you not want to help your husband to stop him from marrying someone else to help himself? There’s so much you don’t know," The voice messed with her.

"He won’t get married to someone else so quickly just to save himself," Arissa shot back, "And also, let me warn you. If you dare hurt my husband in any form, I’ll look for you and make sure you regret this day," she promised.

The other end went dead silent.

"Who are you?" Arissa broke the silence.

The voice at the other end let out a small mocking laugh. "You sure have some nerves to threaten someone you know not. I can’t believe Lincoln doll would become so feisty one day,"

"This_"

"Here’s the deal. How about you come down to China? Think about it, you can help him save your marriage. I’ll send you an address. Make sure you come alone and don’t tell anyone about this... not even Nicklaus,"

Arissa blinked and arranged her baby strands around her face. Caressing her stomach softly, she divulged, "Is there a specific reason why I shouldn’t tell anyone?"

"I don’t have to give you a reason for that. Just don’t tell anyone if you want to help your husband," saying this, the other end dropped the call.

Arissa’s body turned numb at the beeping sound of the call coming to an end. She redialed the number but to her greatest shock, the number was said to be invalid.

Her breathing turned unstable. Searching for Nickkau’s contact, she called him the moment she saw it appear.

However, Nicklaus did not pick up immediately, as he had always done and the call died down. She called again and there was no reply. Trying until the fifth time, she decided to let him be.

She tried the unknown number again but just like the last time, she wasn’t able to reach it. Arissa gulped softly and her mind turned hazy.

"Baby," Arissa placed a hand on her stomach, "Do you think Daddy’s alright? Daddy also left for China, do you think I should listen to the old man who just called?" She communicated with her unborn child, having no one else to speak to.

"Do you think Daddy would get married again to save his company? If he wants to, should Mummy let him?" Her voice choked and tears left her eyes.

Standing up from the couch, she walked towards the balcony in the nursery and laid down on the hammock bed. Staring up at the stars with her mind full of uncertainty, she decided to spend the night there.
