His Toxic Addiction-Chapter 406: Brave One
Chapter 406: Brave One
"Are you okay baby?" Arissa asked the boy when he resumed his whimpers. ƒreewebɳovel.com
She looked around the kitchen and gave them deep apology glances. She knew she wasn’t meant to be here but the boy said his mother was in here.
Walking towards one of the cooks, Arissa decided to ask around for the boy’s mother. Maybe she works here.
"I want my Mummy," the boy cried from Arissa’s shoulder.
Arissa nodded in approval, "I know that and we’ll find her soon. Don’t worry, I’m not giving up until I find your Mum," she promised.
"But you’re going the wrong way," the boy argued.
Arissa’s feet halted, "Huh?" she tore the boy off her neck and gently made him look at her.
"This is the restaurant kitchen. What other way are you talking about?"
The boy’s innocent eyes met Arissa’s own. "There is an exit door there," he pointed at one end of the kitchen, "My Mother and I live there so we can eat the leftovers easily before anyone,"
Arissa’s heart shattered. She looked into the boy’s eyes deeply and drew him into another embrace. Her heart bled at how innocent he sounded.
Arissa buried her face into the boy’s hair. His bad breath wasn’t her concern at the moment. Her main concern was to make him comfortable and protected. "That’s alright. What’s your name?"
The boy smiled from Arissa’s embrace. He freed himself and little and tangled her hair around his pinky finger, "I’m Daniel but my Mother calls me Danny,"
Arissa smiled. "Would it be alright with you if I call you Dan?" She asked, already feeling attached to the little boy she knew not.
The boy nodded cheerfully. Bringing his face closer to Arissa’s face, he planted a tender kiss on her cheek and giggled.
Arissa smiled and walked on with the boy to the back door. Carefully opening the backdoor, she stepped out with the boy without the notice of anyone.
Tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear, Arissa paused when she closed the door behind her. She looked at the tattered house before her and kissed the boy’s cheek.
The thought of being friends with the boy’s mother to be closer to the boy kicked into her mind. Protectively hugging the boy, she walked towards the house.
"Hello, anyone home?" Standing before the house, Arissa knocked on the door.
"I’m coming," a cheerful voice answered from the inside and the boy giggled excitedly. Arissa smiled widely at the boy’s reaction. She gave him a light pat on his back.
In the next second, the voice from the inside opened the door ajar. The smile on her face widened when she saw Arissa.
Arissa stared at the lady before her. Seeing how tattered and exhausted the woman looked, Arissa let out a low breath and smiled at her, "Hello,"
The woman nodded and gestured for Arissa to come in with her hand. Arissa turned to the hospital behind her and back at the lady before her. Mrs. Wyatt would surely get worried if she spent more time than she should.
"Let’s go in," the boy’s low voice resounded in Arissa’s ear, bringing her back to the reality before her, "She’s my mother," the boy opened up.
Nodding at the lady to make way for her, she slowly walked into the house. Her stomach grumbled slightly.
"Thank you so much for returning him. He’s such a troublesome little one," the lady said with a smile, stretching her hands forward to receive her son again.
Arissa blinked in admiration and returned the boy to his mother. The woman smiled at the boy and kissed his forehead tenderly.
Going closer to the lady, Arissa held the boy’s little hand, "I have to get going now. However, I promise you’ll see me again and when you see me again, we are going to beg your Mum to spare us some time together," she promised with a smile.
The boy nodded and looked at his mother. His eyes held questions in them and his mother smiled in response.
Arissa looked at the woman, "You have a very nice child. Please keep him safe," she pleaded with the woman.
Passing her tender gaze over to the boy, Arissa couldn’t wait to speak to Nicklaus. She doesn’t know why they lived here but would love to move them out of this slump if the woman would agree to it.
The woman’s soft smile flipped into a sinister one, "I’ll keep my son safe but I’m not so sure you’d be able to keep yourself safe,"
Arissa stiffened. "What do you mean?"
The woman returned the boy to the floor. She knelt to his level and kissed his cheeks. "You did a good job son. Now you and Mama would have enough money to get enough food and clothes just like the other kids," she said happily.
Arissa watched the boy jump excitedly and her frown increased. Turning towards the door to leave, the door was pushed open from the outside and two men walked in.
There wasn’t anything good in their expression and body language. She took a step back in confusion.
One of the men before her threw a bag towards the lady she met in the house. Arissa flipped her head over to the woman and watched how quickly she caught the bag.
Fastly opening the bag to see what was in it, Arissa gasped at the sight of the money arranged in it. She immediately understood what was going on. Her eyes met with the little boy’s eyes in surprise.
The boy immediately hid behind his mother and avoided Arissa’s eyes. His expression read guilt and regret, making Arissa wonder how a child his age could do something as evil and corrupt as this.
Facing the men before her, her expression turned stern, "Move out of the way. I don’t even know who you are,"
One of the men moved closer to her with a low smirk at the corner of his lips, "Don’t be so hardheaded. Your husband doesn’t need you anymore and he won’t even try to find you,"
Arissa frowned, "Since you already know who my husband is, don’t try to come any closer. You won’t like what he would do to you,"
"Are you dumb?" The man asked, "Did I not just explain to you how he won’t try to find you?"
Arissa scoffed, "Get out of my way if you want to leave this place unharmed," she threatened. Her only regret at the moment was that she wasn’t with her cell phone. There wasn’t any way to contact anyone and it drove her crazy.
Since it involves Nicklaus, she believed it had to do with the higher-ups. Anger ran through her at the thought of the little boy being a scheme in their plans.
The first man stepped forward and bent his face to her level. He smiled disgustedly and tried caressing her cheek.
"Don’t you dare," Arissa warned and caught a hold of his hand. Angrily, she twisted his finger, causing the man to slap her hard, using his free hand.
The little boy whimpered at the sound of the slap and stepped away. The next man stepped forward and before Arissa could recover from the also, he walked up behind her and quickly injected a liquid into her.
Arissa’s vision turned blurry when a drop of the liquid moved into her body. Before they could finish injecting her, her body turned limp and she fell to the floor, unconscious.
The first man picked her up and nodded at the lady. His eyes caught sight of the terrified kid hiding behind his mother.
"You’re a brave one. Keep it up," he said to the boy and walked out of the house. The next man followed behind and got into the car before the house.
Achieving what they came for, the second man started the car and they zoomed off.
