His Toxic Addiction-Chapter 408: The Orphanage
Chapter 408: The Orphanage
Logan’s expression didn’t change, but his eyes seemed to flash with anger at Nicklaus’s words. "You’re not responsible?" he repeated, his voice low and menacing. "You’re not responsible for the fact that your associate blew up my mansion, killing everyone I loved?"
Nicklaus’s gaze didn’t waver, but his eyes seemed to cloud over for a moment. "I’m sorry, Logan," he said again, his voice firm but laced with a hint of regret. "But I didn’t order Adam to do that. And even if I had, you know as well as I do that he was a wild card. Unpredictable and unreliable."
Logan’s face twisted into a snarl, his burned skin pulling taut over his cheekbones. "You’re just trying to deflect responsibility," he spat, his voice venomous. "But its way past that, Nicklaus. You’re going to pay for what happened to my family."
Logan regretted not being able to take his revenge on Adams and Arissa’s father himself.
Nicklaus’s expression remained calm, but his eyes seemed to gleam with a hint of defiance. "Paying you doesn’t go beyond wealth, does it?" he asked, his voice steady.
Logan laughed. "We’ll see about that," he said, his eyes glinting with malice. "You’re also going to regret underestimating me, Nicklaus." frёewebηovel.cѳm
He went on, "You know what disgust me the most? The privileges you enjoy shouldn’t be yours,"
Nicklaus breath steadied. His battle with Logan goes years back to when they were in the orphanage. Logan had expected to be adopted so it came as a shock with hate when Nicklaus got adopted instead of him.
Logan never talked, and they never shared anthing in common for them to be friends back in the orphanage. It was until recent he recognized Logan to be one of the kids he shared the home with.
The night Nicklaus found out about this, he found it petty but after much digging, he got a little understanding about everything.
Logan had wanted to be adopted into a higher family to get closer with Arissa’s father and more dark men in the business world who destroyed his family.
Logan ran a hand through his hair. "You should_"
Victor suddenly stepped forward, his movements were swift and silent. Before anyone could react, he raised his gun and shot Logan in the back.
The sound of the gunshot was deafening, and Nicklaus’s eyes widened in shock as Logan’s body jerked forward, his eyes frozen in a look of surprise.
Before Nicklaus or Logan would begin to process what had just happened, Victor shot Logan again, this time in the head. The second gunshot was equally loud, and Logan’s body crumpled to the ground, his lifeless eyes staring up at the ceiling.
Nicklaus’s mind reeled in shock as he stared at Victor, his gun still smoking. He couldn’t believe what he had just witnessed.
Was Victor not on the same mission as Logan? Why the sudden betrayal?
Victor’s eyes locked onto Nicklaus, a cold, calculating glint in his gaze. He raised his gun, pointing it directly at Nicklaus.
"You’re next," Victor said, his voice devoid of emotion. "Do you think Mr. Rhode would let him live through the plan?"
Nicklaus’s heart racing, he raised his hands, his mind racing with thoughts of Arissa and their unborn child. He knew he had to think fast if he wanted to get out of this situation alive.
With a swift motion, Nicklaus charged at Victor, his fists flying. Victor, taken aback by the sudden attack, stumbled backward, his gun hand wavering.
They clashed, throwing punches at themselves. It became a ghostly scene as they ignored Logan’s lifeless body, focused on tearing themselves apart.
Nicklaus’s training and adrenaline fueled his movements, allowing him to dodge Victor’s wild swings and land several solid hits.
Victor’s face twisted in rage, he launched himself at Nicklaus, tackling him to the ground.
Nicklaus’s head spun as Victor’s fist connected with his jaw. Victor landed another, which Nicklaus retaliated. With a surge of strength, he managed to flip Victor onto his back and pin him to the ground.
Their faces inches apart, Nicklaus’s eyes blazed with fury as he delivered a series of rapid-fire punches to Victor’s face. Victor’s eyes began to turn blurry, with blood all over his face, but he refused to give up.
In a desperate bid to turn the tables, Victor managed to lift Nicklaus off him and send his body crashing into the nearby dresser. Nicklaus’s head spun as he stumbled backward.
An image of Arissa’s trying face flashed through his eyes, and he quickly regained his footing.
Nicklaus’s mind racing, he knew he had to end this fight quickly. He couldn’t let Victor get the upper hand, not when Arissa’s life was at stake. All he wanted right now to kiss her with passion, run his hand through her hair, and tell her how pretty she was over and over so she never forgets.
With a fierce launch, Nicklaus launched himself at Victor, determined to take him down once and for all. The outcome of the fight hung in the balance, as the two men clashed in a final, brutal showdown.
Victor’s face was a mess of blood and bruises, but he refused to back down. With a snarl, he launched himself at Nicklaus, tackling him to the ground.
As the two men wrestled on the ground, Nicklaus’s hand closed around the gun that Victor had dropped. He dodged strong, he managed to break free from Victor’s grasp and pin him to the ground.
Victor’s eyes widened in terror as Nicklaus pointed the gun at his head. "You should have stayed out of this," Nicklaus spat, his finger tightening on the trigger.
"Please... please don’t," Victor begged, coughing out blood. "I just work for my money."
Nicklaus cold eyes hardened, and he pulled the trigger. He stood up, coughing harshly as he looked around the place.
His side bones were crushed, but he managed to leave the hotel. With each step, he muttered to himself, pleading with Arissa to hold on.
