Hitman In The Apocalypse: I Evolve Infinitely!-Chapter 38- Nemesis (Part 1)
Chapter 38- Nemesis (Part 1)
Rein stopped and looked around him. The sound of the rain outside made everything feel even more eerie. However, it wasn’t the rain that made him feel uneasy, nor was it the nightmare he had just experienced. Instead, something about the atmosphere felt off.
However, Rein didn’t show it on his face as he continued walking down the stairs to the kitchen. Pulling the bottle of water, he poured a cup and drank it casually, his back to the door.
’Mmm, this is refreshing.’ He thought to himself. After that, he put the bottle back as he turned around to walk back to his room. As he was turning his head, Rein suddenly felt a silhouette appear behind him.
’Someone!’ Rein’s senses heightened to the extreme as he quickly moved his body like a flash, ducking as a sword sliced above his head.
"Wha-" Then he heard a voice, one that he wasn’t familiar with. Rein didn’t stop as he quickly slid his leg, making the man fall to the ground as he lost his balance. Jumping on top of him, he pulled his sword out and put it against the man’s face.
His eyes were wide and sharp as he got ready to deliver a deadly strike.
"Who are you?" He asked coldly as he stared down, finally seeing the man’s face... Or the mask covering it, to be precise. Only his eyes, filled with shock, could be seen through the mask.
"Speak! Who the hell are you?" Rein asked as he pressed the sword against his neck. However, the man didn’t speak. So, Rein inspected the rest of his body with his eyes, only for him to realize...
’Isn’t this... The agency uniform?’ He frowned deeply. ’He’s an agent? What is he doing here?’
For a second, Rein didn’t understand what was happening before his eyes widened as realization struck him.
"Shit... Violet!" He cursed as he charged his fist and punched the man, knocking him unconscious as he stood up and rushed toward the second floor.
"Violet!!"
As he was running up the stairs, he suddenly saw several silhouettes appear from upstairs and down stairs, all carrying guns as they aimed them at Rein. The man didn’t hesitate as he clenched his teeth and made a sharp turn, dashing to the side and jumping over the rails.
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
The dark villa was illuminated with flashes of light as bullets flew through the air, hitting the stairs.
"He ran down. Get him."
He heard several voices speaking as steps rushed toward him.
’There are 4.’ He thought to himself. ’Two upstairs and two downstairs. They have guns, potentially other weapons.’ He analyzed in his mind as he moved like a ghost, getting into one of the nearest rooms to him.
Closing the door behind him, he hid himself as he summoned his sword. Silence took over the entire place for slow, cruel seconds as Rein watched the door silently. A while later, the door started slowly opening. However, he didn’t move an inch as he held his breath.
Then, suddenly two jumped in as they started shooting left and right.
"Die!" One yelled.
However, Rein had already expected that as he instantly kicked the door closed, slamming into one of the men as he stepped back. Then, he quickly lunged forward, wrapping around the other one like a slithering snake before...
*Swish*
[You have killed a Level 4 Human.]
[You have gained a new Skill Rune.]
He sliced his throat swiftly as blood exploded everywhere. Rein then turned around as he quickly kicked the other one before he could shoot his gun.
[You have killed a Level 5 Human.]
His speed was simply far superior to theirs as he drove his sword into the man’s heart, staring into his eyes coldly. He could see all the fear, the shock and the realization appear in them as the man fell to the ground.
"Shoot!"
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
The others didn’t stop to even check as the sound of bullets rang across the villa. They shot all their bullets into the room, riddling the door with holes till all their magazines ran out.
The smell of gunpowder filled the air as they looked at the broken door to the room. There was no sight of Rein, and they couldn’t tell if they had killed him or not.
"Is he... dead?" One man asked with a tense look on his face.
"I think... There is no way he could survive that..." The other muttered as he tried to step forward.
"What are you doing?"
"I’m going in to check..." He said. "Hold my back."
"..." The man nodded as he reloaded his gun and started walking in slowly. He already knew the kind of man he was dealing with. This was still extremely dangerous and risky. Sucking a deep breath, he peeked inside as he aimed his gun left and right.
"..." His heart was racing so loudly from sheer fear. However... "Huh? Where is he?"
There was no trace of Rein anywhere he looked. The entire room was riddled with bullets, and yet there was no trace of their target. The only thing he could see was the window completely open.
"Shit! He ran away!" He yelled as he rushed to the window to check. "Go out and alert the others, that bastard had made a ru-"
Before he could even finish the sentence, he peeked outside instinctively, thinking Rein had jumped out and ran away. However, his eyes met with the cold eyes of his target and his entire body froze in place.
Rein didn’t waste a second as he pushed his body up and stabbed the man in the neck, killing him in the spot before pulling his body out and throwing it from the second floor as he leaped in and dashed forward.
"Wha-!!"
The other man tried to aim his gun at him and shoot. However, Rein had already cut the distance short and, with a swift move, disarmed the man before he elbowed him in the neck, breaking his windpipe and stopping him from resisting before he plunged his sword into his heart.
"Hah... Hah..." Rein exhaled tiredly as he looked down at the dead corpse. His eyes winced in pain. His injuries had reopened and started bleeding from the excessive movement. But, he didn’t mind them as he looked up.
’These are all agents from the agency. Why the hell are they attacking the villa? They seem to be targeting me. Why? And how did they know I was here in the first place?’
Many questions filled his mind. However, his first problem was the whereabouts of Violet and the others.
’Dammit, I was so deep asleep, I didn’t hear any ruckus.’ He cursed as he picked one of the guns and some bullets before he reloaded it and rushed out of the room. They were all certainly upstairs since these agents were still here.
There were potentially way more waiting for him so he had to be very careful. Reaching the second floor, he leaned against the wall and peeked. He saw several silhouettes moving through the hall, seemingly searching for him and guarding a certain place... A particular room on the other side.
Rein locked onto that room as he brandished his sword. ’It seems my killcount tonight will increase quite a bit.’
