Hitman In The Apocalypse: I Evolve Infinitely!-Chapter 42- Calm Before the Storm
Chapter 42- Calm Before the Storm
Rein sucked a deep breath as he looked around him. The rain hadn’t stopped the entire night and only grew stronger as the time passed. The two had already gotten soaking wet because of it, so he pulled Violet away to a shed where he could talk to her and calm her down.
She was still trying to stop her tears, but her fear for her family and Alex was simply far too big. Seeing her little sister being forced inside that car made her feel so angry and yet so hopeless that she felt suffocated. She couldn’t do anything about it, even though she was way stronger than she was before. A gun could still easily kill her.
After a few minutes, Violet finally calmed down and gathered her breath.
"Do you feel calmer now?" Rein asked as he looked at her.
"Mmm... I’m... fine..." She replied as she wiped her eyes.
"..." Rein could tell she was just trying to force a smile, so he didn’t reply and instead looked out of the alley as he ran his hand through his wet hair.
"How are we going to find them, Rein? Where could they have gone?"
Rein thought for a moment before he looked at Violet. "I think I know where they are exactly. A while ago, I came across a piece of intel that Virgo had a storage building on the outskirts of the city that he bought recently. I didn’t come to confirm that, but it is most likely true, and he could very much be there."
"I see..." Violet replied.
"But, we can’t go there yet. I need to get some stuff done beforehand." Rein said. ’I can’t fight them head-on without proper preparations. Those bullets are still deadly even if I can somehow manage it.’
Rein’s biggest problem was the number of agents. If he tries to infiltrate this place, there could be dozens of agents waiting inside, and then he would be shot on sight. So, he needed to at least get as strong as possible.
’I didn’t think I would check what I got from that grizzly bear in such urgent circumstances, but now I need everything I can get.’
So, Rein opened his notifications to check them one by one. The first few told him of all the levels and stat points he got, which was huge.
’5 points added to every single stat is ridiculously high. No wonder I survived that attack. I basically evolved completely, and that saved my body.’ He thought to himself. ’I also got 9 points to use myself.’ 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
So, Rein immediately put 5 of them in strength and 4 in agility. The surge of power he felt at that moment was nothing short of intoxicating. It was as if every cell in his body broke through the limit again.
Violet could immediately see it. His muscles pulsate, his energy becoming more vibrant and strong.
"Fuuh... That feels better." Rein muttered as he clenched his fist. "I feel stronger... Way stronger."
With that, he looked at the next important notification. Rein had gained a new title.
[Name: Limit Breaker]
[Title Effect: Gains +20% buff against all enemies 4 levels or higher.]
[Description: You are someone who strives to break all limits. Facing threats far beyond your powers and coming out victorious. Your potential knows no bounds, and your ceiling is the sky and beyond.]
"Well, that’s flattering... But what a very strong title. This is very useful." He said. ’I guess facing that bear was something I wasn’t supposed to do. This title will really help me fight these freaks of nature.’
Then, Rein checked his runes. He had gained 2 Artefacts and 2 Skills, which were already far more than what any other monster had given him before.
So, he used the first rune, and immediately, a large item formed in his hands. It was way larger than anything he had received so far.
"Hmm? Is this..." Violet looked at the item. "A chestplate?"
"It looks like it..."
The item was an iron chestplate, carved out of a rather odd, greyish metal with beautiful engravings all over its frame. It looked extremely sturdy and surprisingly light for its size.
[Name: Aiver’s Chestplate]
[Type: Armor]
[Rarity: Rare]
[Ability: Absorbs 40% of all damage dealt toward the target. Absorbs 70% of all ’Forest’ Element attacks.]
[Description: Aivern, the sage of the Karakata Forest, forged countless pieces of armor and weaponry from the metal mined from this forest. Born in such a heavenly environment, this chestplate is sturdy and light, capable of deflecting all forms of attacks.]
"This is perfect!" Rein’s eyes lit up. ’A chestplate? And can it reduce the damage I take? Sign me up. This is exactly what I needed.’
Without hesitation, Rein wore the chestplate, which was rather easy. Then, he made it disappear.
Then, he moved to the second item, which turned out to be another pair of boots that granted more agility and even some damage reduction. They looked like medieval boots worn by knights.
Rein examined it for a second before he looked at Violet. "Here, put these on."
"Huh? What... No, no, I can’t take what’s yours."
"I said put them on. You will need them." Rein said calmly. "I need you to help me get your family back. These could save your life."
"... Thank... Thank you." Violet was stunned before she nodded her head at Rein with a warm smile. After putting the boots on, Violet felt quite lighter and even more resilient in a way.
"These items are truly magical. I could’ve never imagined clothes could have such an effect on you."
Rein then looked at the Skills.
[Name: Spatial Arrows]
[Rank: A]
[Type: Active]
[Level: 1]
[Description: Two arrows form out of thin air around you that you can aim and shoot at any target within a 30-meter vicinity. Capable of dealing damage to anything Level 20 and below. requires Soul Essence to activate.]
’Long range skill... Finally, I needed this for a while.’ Rein thought to himself. ’I can make use of these against their guns.’
Rein could already imagine how he could infiltrate the building with these abilities.
*RUMBLE*
At that moment, a loud thunder echoed in the entire city, ringing through their eardrums with immense power. Violet flinched in fear as she looked up. The rain had become a torrent that seemed to sweep everything in its way. What was a mere rainy night had turned into a violent storm very quickly, and it didn’t seem to have any intention to stop or decrease.
The water was already puddling under their feet.
"Rein..." Violet looked at him. "The weather..."
"I know... This isn’t normal." He said. "We aren’t in a region where such storms could happen."
"What could be the reason?"
"I don’t know yet..."
Staring up, he could see the lightning and thunder in the thick clouds above. He didn’t know why, but he couldn’t imagine this was merely a coincidence. This storm had something to do with everything that happened that day.
’We need to start moving. I don’t like this.’
Shaking his head, Rein focused on the last skill.
[Name: Tower’s Bard]
