Hogwarts: Bloodline Legend-Chapter 577 - 165: Safety Measures! Ian’s Birthday!
"Do you know when the Book of Admission records the names of new students?" This was something Ian hadn't researched before, but he thought the prankster group from those years might have delved into it.
"A year before the school starts..."
As expected.
Lupin knew the answer.
Although they might not have accessed the Book of Admission and the Pen of Admission, they had researched and investigated this rumored divine artifact of Hogwarts during their student years.
"Well, it seems there's still plenty of time," Ian said cheerfully, dismissing the idea of recalling this three days later, and magnanimously deciding not to mind Lupin disturbing him at night.
"My intuition tells me this must have something to do with you." Lupin had witnessed Ian's impossible achievements in magic, so he thought Ian's accomplishments with magic potions might be similar.
This was a little wizard who couldn't be judged by common sense or normal thinking.
"Don't trust your intuition; trust science... No, trust magic." Ian promptly corrected his wording but didn't deter Lupin from seeking answers.
"For thousands of years, magic has proven that those who have become squibs almost cannot regain it... Yet today, without any major events, a squib girl's life has been reversed..." The implication in Lupin's words was evident.
He still suspected that the dramatic changes in Catherine were related to Ian.
But that wasn't the main reason Lupin felt he couldn't sleep tonight, to the point of violating his own rules to find the little wizard for answers.
"Was it that kind of water you gave her?" Lupin was not a foolish person; on the contrary, Gryffindor students, when they think, are not much worse than those in Ravenclaw College.
He quickly pieced together the day's events and immediately noticed something peculiar, and it was this peculiarity that unsettled him greatly.
"I remember you gave all the children that kind of water." This was the most terrifying part according to Lupin; Catherine wasn't the only one who drank the blue potion.
If... things were really as he imagined... it would be nothing short of earth-shattering?
"I know what you're worried about. Don't be so sensitive; the water Catherine drank only works on squibs." Ian, seeing Lupin's resolute expression, also knew there was no point in denying it.
"So! It really is as I think it is!?"
Lupin's pupils constricted rapidly several times. Despite his earlier anticipation, the confirmation still left him in disbelief.
"Maybe, possibly, perhaps?"
Ian used several uncertain words in succession. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"..."
Lupin still wasn't quite used to the little wizard's personality. He clenched his fists and paced back and forth in the room, looking increasingly uneasy and worried.
"Have you told anyone else about this? You should tell your uncle, no, you should directly tell Dumbledore, because you might not understand how much crisis such a potion could bring you."
Lupin was genuinely concerned for the little wizard's safety. Of course, his complex emotions also included worries about the potential chaos if such a potion were made public.
"You know, I know, no one else knows. If this leaks, heh, then it would definitely be your fault," Ian wasn't really worried about being coveted.
He was not only powerful now but also had quite a few cards hidden up his sleeve to protect himself.
"Hmm?"
Lupin stopped abruptly, "Then you might as well not have told me. Damn it, why didn't you just tell me that it was a miracle from your Headmaster's God!?"
To be honest, the desperate werewolf was indeed somewhat regretful now. Knowing such a secret, even if he didn't tell it, he would probably carry an extra layer of mental burden every night when he went to sleep.
If time could flow backwards.
He wished the little wizard had told him it was a miracle from God.
He would truly believe it.
Even if he didn't, he would've pretended to.
"Catherine, although also a nominal believer in God, even if God exists in this world, have you ever seen Him really help all His believers?"
Ian turned back to unwrapping gifts.
"But your potion, this invention..." Lupin hesitated for a moment and chose to convey the seriousness of the matter to the little wizard in a more tactful manner.
"You should hide it until you truly have the right to reveal it. Really, I bet you, if the same magic potion came from your uncle's hands, he wouldn't dare to use it either."
"The potential disaster this thing could trigger is unimaginable... I'm not saying you can't use it to help those poor squibs, but at the very least, you should discuss it somewhat with Headmaster Dumbledore." Lupin thought that with Albus Dumbledore's blessing, perhaps the aftermath of its publicized use could still be controlled.
"My skills aren't too bad, right?"
Ian tilted his head slightly.
"Look, a gesture of goodwill from the wizard family." In his hand was an invitation from the Greengrass family, sent along with a gift from Miss Daphne Greengrass.
Perhaps even the gift itself was chosen by Miss Daphne Greengrass's parents and sent in her name.
If not so,
Ian would have to wonder if Miss Daphne Greengrass had some sort of masochistic tendency.
"Greed moves the heart, child." Lupin glanced at the invitation in Ian's hand and sighed heavily, believing that the young wizard might not fully comprehend the treachery of the human heart in this world.
"I can't just watch Catherine's hopes of going to Hogwarts dashed, can I?" Ian actually understood Lupin's point, but he felt he already had sufficient conditions to handle it.
"You're not entirely wrong, just that..."
Lupin wanted to say something else.
But Ian shook his head, interrupting him.
"No 'but,' Senior Lupin. You, more than anyone, should understand the importance of family. Making your family happy is definitely more valuable than anything else."
The young wizard waved his magic wand and, the next moment, the lab reverted back to his room. All those gifts given by the children during the day had been carefully arranged in the room.
"Catherine prays to God daily with Lady Yelena, yet, even though she carries a wizard's blood, God still chose to play a cruel joke on His believer."
"I simply corrected God's cruel joke... Wizards, magic, our purpose lies in controlling our own fate while being able to change the fate of others."
Ian responded softly.
"You're like this..."
Lupin's expression was bewildered.
"What do you mean?"
Of course, he didn't genuinely misunderstand; however, at this moment, a part of Lupin's mind was hinting to him that he might soon get a true glimpse into the little wizard's most genuine thoughts.
"It's a simple truth."
Ian looked at the painting Catherine gave him.
It had him in it.
And the people he cared about.
"For my friends, my family, they might not receive a response from God, but they will definitely get a response from me... To a wizard, nothing should be considered impossible."
Ian's tone was gentle yet powerful.
"Even if God forbids it, He can't compete against my insistence."
In that room with only the two of them,
He gazed at his senior's gradually shocked expression.
Once again, he articulated his understanding of "wizards as gods."
