Honor of Kings-Chapter 6: Another reason
Chapter 6: Another reason
She was about to tend to whoever the aggressive knocker was, but Sky quickly interfered. He had a bad feeling about the person behind the door, and his instincts were telling him to stay away.
"Ms Mary, I don't think you should open that door... the person is rather aggressive, judging by the way he's knocking so hard."
Hahaha!
Mary laughed, leaving Sky confused. Why was she laughing? Had he said something funny?
"...That's not the case. It might just be the grumpy landlord; that's how he is." She responded, heading towards the door with a relaxed composure. Sky's gut was still in denial.
Unlocking the door and turning the knob, a loud shout resonated through the room, emanating from an old man with grey hair, a hunchback, and holding a walking stick. It was clearly the landlord of the building.
"You! I told you not to pay the extra charges for me! I'm fine, so what's your problem? Paying for my hospital bill won't change your rent fees!" the old man shouted. At that moment, Sky's mind eased. Nothing bad had happened; the person here was just an old and frail man who still somehow had the strength to shout at the top of his voice.
He looked away from the door, having no interest in whatever was going on.
Mary stood in front of the old landlord, smiling and bowing every now and then, while the old man continued his tirade.
"I just felt the urge to do something since you've been rather nice to me throughout—"
The old man interrupted Mary, cursing until he began coughing violently. She rushed to help him, but he rejected her assistance and walked away in misery. She sighed deeply and shut the door.
"See? I told you it was him. However, your ominous feeling was spot on. Why? Because that man is a pain in the ass. I wish I hadn't even unlocked that door. I tried to help him, and still, here he is, shouting and cursing at me. Now, let's get back to business."
"Tsk."
Sky clicked his tongue and rolled it in his mouth, deep in thought. Then he spoke:
"You know what? I think I will enlist."
Mary's face twisted in shock, her eyes bulging. "...What's with the sudden change of mind?"
"I have my reasons. I guess this will be the last time we have a session together. Goodbye, Ms Mary." Sky concluded, walking out the door.
"Huh?" A smile crept onto her face as the door closed behind him. Her mind soared with happiness, feeling as if she had won a lifetime's worth of lottery. No, this must be a dream.
She slapped herself hard and felt the sting. So, it isn't a dream? Her long-standing terror is really... actually gone? This bliss began to flow through her soul, mind, and body like a powerful current. All three facets of her humanity were alive and active.
"Life is so good!" she yelled, quickly covering her mouth, fearing that Sky might have heard her. The last thing she pondered was why Sky had such a sudden change of heart. It wouldn't have been easy to convince him to enlist, yet he decided it on his own... how strange.
This was thrilling, anyway; her lifelong dream had finally become a reality.

Sky had successfully returned to his old comfort. He sat on a wooden chair, a single candle burning steadily, suffusing the entire space with light while leaving a few corners cloaked in shadows.
One detail was disturbing him: he hadn't decided to enlist because of the absurd examination system, but rather for the serum. He believed something good would come from it, especially if it truly granted supernatural powers. He had a specific target in mind, and with that serum, it was now a little closer to his grasp.
'I should define myself to him now. It might have been a while, and if he's smart, he'll realise I've changed a lot. I will show him that I'm not so useless anymore. Well, at this moment, I'm still somewhat useless and ignorant. But not for long, baby!'
He didn't have much to pack—only a few sweatpants and shirts, along with two tracksuits and a handful of underwear—totaling twenty pieces of clothing. His outerwear was literally the same style throughout, just in different colors.
He stuffed everything into a larger bag, preparing for tomorrow. Afterwards, he began organizing a few items in his comfort zone.
The next thing on his list was... Oh, hang on a minute! He had completely forgotten about the written permission they had informed him to obtain. As Mary was his guardian, that was who he needed to get it from.
Luckily, the outskirts weren't far from her place. A twenty-minute walk would always get him there and back to his lair.
Two hours later, Sky had collected the written permission from her. For a moment, she thought he had changed his mind again but quickly realized he had just come for the permission letter.
Phew. A heart attack was almost upon her. Sky was completely aware of the whole situation and didn't give it any thought. It's not that he would miss her; all along, he had been dreaming of ending all his sessions with her. Despite not having made significant improvements in his mental health, he still wasn't bad enough to be denied freedom and care.
Being a severe sociopath with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) added to the mix—it wasn't so bad, right? At least he wasn't harmful...
Moreover, his ADHD wasn't that severe yet. He could still think straight and didn't act impulsively. He didn't talk much; even a little conversation could feel overwhelming to him. He could also stay calm for a while, so it wasn't too straining.
On the other hand, he preferred being away from trashy humans. Without a doubt, he wished the Exiles would ruin all of them. But, unfortunately, he was a member of the heart, which meant he would be on the list of dead people—and that wasn't on his bucket list at all. He had no intention of dying anytime soon.

Next Morning. Friday, 9th of November.
The first rays of morning sunlight streamed through the classroom windows. Various students had successfully collected their permission letters from parents or guardians, bringing in loads of clothes and a mix of both useful and useless items. The air was filled with noise, punctuated by different chants. Some boys dashed through the hallways, disturbing the school's peace, while the girls unloaded their... makeup? Why would they even need that here?
Additionally, the junior students had been given a leave from school, meaning only the seniors remained. Only the seniors were enlisted.
Sky, as late as always, rolled his luggage bag into the school compound, sporting black sunglasses over his eyes and dressed in his usual attire: black sweatpants and a sweatshirt. His black bag hung over his shoulder, and on his feet were Adidas casual slippers—quite expensive when he had bought them, but he had the money to spare.
As he moved deeper into the school grounds, he noticed something and removed his sunglasses. The entire area was filled with barricades and training equipment, along with straw dummies. The school grounds were spacious, about 10 acres wide. Various military camps had been set up, and military trucks were parked nearby, with armed officers moving about and setting things up.
"That's quite quick. Looks like they knew all the students were fools," Sky mused as he approached the school building and entered.
He stepped aside as three students ran past him, chasing one another and acting childish. As he moved toward the classroom, the blonde student approached him with a wave, assessing his outfit and complimenting him.
"Damn, you look good in whatever you wear. Are you a supermodel?"
The girls in the class eyed him, their faces flushed red.
"Sky looks so fine even in his usual wear—no, even more stunning today. My heart is fluttering; I can't unsee this beauty," one female student whispered to her group, covering her eyes.
"Cringe..." the blonde remarked, noticing their reaction. The girls instantly retaliated with various curse words.
"I stand by my words. You all are so fucking cringe! Final!"
Sky ignored them and placed his luggage against the wall. The chairs in the classroom had all been stacked in one corner, creating enough space to move around freely and put things down.
Minutes later, Corporal Levitt entered the room with another female officer and Private Donald, prompting order.
The female officer had a sharp, angular face framed by short, dark hair. Her uniform was crisp, fitting snugly against her athletic build. Her intense green eyes reflected a sense of strictness. She stood at an average height, with evident curves that complemented her uniform; her mid-sized breasts drew the attention of many boys in the classroom. She possessed a captivating beauty, almost like a model.
"I guess the majority of you decided to enlist today. Good..." Corporal Levitt said, his tone blunt and devoid of emotion.
"This is Senior Private Arundel. She will be in charge of the girls, while Senior Private Donald will oversee the males. From now on, you will all be referred to as 'Recruits.'"
During training, students were called Recruits, and only after completing it could they become Privates, which were further divided into Senior and Junior Privates. Everyone would automatically start as a Junior Private.
A total of 60 students had been enlisted from the school, all seniors. Across America, there were a total of 9,000 students enlisted. Additionally, the school building, along with the junior section, had a surplus of 100 rooms—classrooms and other types of rooms—enough to accommodate one student per room. That meant everyone would have their own space.
Sky was pleased about this; he would have a whole room to himself, with no one to disturb his peace.
"Firstly, today, each of you will be assigned to your various rooms, and after settling down, we will begin the first phase of today's training."
'Huh? Today?'
