Horror Game Designer-Chapter 670: Paranoia
Gao Ming and No. 2 didn’t know what happened to the shadow. The sudden explosion of curses evaporated the mist around the island. If the attack were directed at someone, they would have perished instantly.
The phone was gone. Even if the shadow returned it to Gao Ming, Gao Ming wouldn’t dare to use it. The thing contained more curses than he had seen in his life. The whale song echoed in the inner world. The mud figurines of children appeared and crumbled on the island, representing the collision of humanity and evil in the shadow’s heart. After a long time, Gao Ming’s phone was crushed by the collision of the two forces. The shadow didn’t answer the call or utter a single word to the person on the other side of the line.
His eyes were filled with complicated emotions, except for hatred. Even if he had murdered nine children to become human, could he still possess everything the Haunted House boss had?
The thing the shadow had been looking for was always by his side. An old picture entered the shadow’s eyes. The day was sunny and bright. The young boy stood before the Haunted House with his parents for a photo. The boy’s shadow hid behind the tree, glaring at them with envy. That was the original picture, but someone used a crayon to add a fat whale beside the shadow.
“I ruined your phone, so I’ll give you something else in return.” The shadow cut off one of his fingers and grabbed some soil from the ground. He used the two to mould the figurine of a child. “His name is Xiangnuan. He is the most useless of all the children. He has no special power and might even bring you misfortune and tragedy.”
The shadow’s gift was like a curse, but Gao Ming willingly accepted it. Perhaps this kid had no extraordinary power, but it represented a Demon God’s kindness.
“I see many interesting things in you, but you are connected to too many karmic relations for me to intervene.” The shadow glanced down the mist. The end of his gaze was a giant Blood City. “To give all the regrets a home is a good idea. If you really succeed in rebuilding the Blood City, you can return to find me.”
Gao Ming’s heart jumped. He didn’t think the Demon God covered in curses would approve of him.
“Go complete your task. I have my own things to do.” The curses inside the shadow were about to explode. He needed to vent. “Darkness, decay and falsehood, which one should I start with?”
Cruel and vengeful, this was the real face of a Demon God. The mist thickened. The shadow waved his hand, and the lonely island disappeared into the fog. Only the whale song could be heard.
“What a scary fellow.” No. 2 only dared to say so after the shadow was gone, “These Demon Gods do not act with rationality. They are cruel and horrifying.”
“But I think they are very authentic. After they became ghosts, only their deepest desire remained.” Gao Ming had a direct experience to discern the difference between Demon Gods and Unmentionables.
Gao Ming was troubled when he returned to Dream Break Town. The three mud figurines only stopped in Dream Break Town for a while, but they had caused immense damage. Half of the town was ruined. Blood oozed from the ground. Even the giant tree was severely damaged. The leaves wilted, and the bark radiated a horrible stench.
“It’s not easy for me to possess a deep-level nightmare of my own. Abandoning it is a waste.” Gao Ming glanced at the heavenly door. The door was connected to the shadow’s realm. By walking through it, one would appear not far from the lonely island. “Even for that door alone, I must keep Dream Break Town.”
“Dream Break Town is built with Dream’s altar as its foundation. Didn’t you gain another one of his main altars?” No. 2 hesitated. “If you take over another main altar, Dream Break Town will become more stable, and your power will rapidly rise. However, the chance of you being replaced will increase.”
Gao Ming knew the risks. The Unmentionables in the Blood Cities knew about the main altars, but no one was hurrying to take them over because they were guarded around Dream.
“I need to do everything I can to improve myself. Han Hai is being targeted by all the other Blood Cities. Why should I be afraid of a half-dead Dream?”
Gao Ming removed Dream’s main altar from the torture room and placed the God of Flesh and Blood figurine in it. The Blood City Tattoo consumed the dream trace. When the main altar turned fully red and radiated a meat fragrance, the life in Dream Break Town grew. The size of the nightmare tripled. Every main altar was extremely precious to the Unmentionables. It contained their weakness and secret. Gao Ming got more benefits than that. Dream Ghost’s original power was strengthened. He also gained a special power that Dream left in the main altar: paranoia.
Perhaps Dream suffered from this illness when he was alive, or a patient’s paranoia gave birth to Dream. Gao Ming was unfamiliar with Dream’s past. However, it confused him that Dream’s power perfectly complemented Dream Ghosts.
“Dream Ghosts are unique to Han Hai. Does Dream come from Han Hai?”
No. 2 explained when he sensed this confusion, “Through our investigation, Dream was connected to Han Hai. When the saviours destroyed Dream’s altars, they found many paths leading to Han Hai. However, don’t be naive enough to think that Dream will help you. Han Hai was vanquished a long time ago. Dream became a ghost not bound by Blood Cities. This means that Dream was related to Han Hai’s destruction.”
“It sounds like I have to thank the world’s saviours for helping the citizens of Han Hai in dealing with a giant threat.” Gao Ming stood before Dream’s main altar. He tried to use Dream’s power. However, his hand just touched the altar when his eyes started to bleed, and his brain was about to tear open.
“Stop! Stop now!”
His palm was forcibly pulled back from the altar by a mysterious force. Gao Ming snapped out of it. His forehead was covered in cold sweat. He glanced at the altar with fear.
Paranoia was very terrifying. When used in a nightmare, it could cause all the people and ghosts in the nightmare to sink into madness and illusions. It would affect the altar owner as well. In fact, the effect on the owner was the worst.
“Is this a self-destructive power?”
Wiping away the blood on his face, Gao Ming’s smile didn’t fade. For the powerful Dream, this power was useless, but it was a trump card for Gao Ming. He could pull Unmentionables into the nightmare and create a maddening world where everyone had lost their rationality.
