How I Pampered the Tyrant Into Devotion With My Space-Chapter 42: Pei Shu’er Becomes the Center of Attention
Early the next morning, Pei Shu’er had fully recovered from her fever and was feeling much lighter.
She stretched lazily, back to being the healthy Miss Pei once again.
Tang Qinghua, however, didn’t look well. She didn’t have a fever, but had caught a cold.
With constant coughing and a runny nose, traveling on this path of exile, she ended up a mess.
Tang Qinghua had no choice but to take the medicine given by Pei Shu’er. It helped a bit, and she wasn’t coughing as much, but she felt like her period was prolonged and wouldn’t stop.
As they traveled further, the weather grew colder, and the people in the main family house groaned from morning till night.
Initially, people asked what was wrong with them, but eventually, they didn’t bother.
The main household simply complained about feeling cold, tired, uncomfortable, and near death.
Everyone was fed up with their complaints.
No one felt good on this journey; who had the energy to focus on others?
Moreover, everyone’s symptoms were clearly more severe than those of the main household.
The first person from the main household to collapse was Tang Peilin. Mrs. Li came looking for Pei Shu’er for treatment, only to find she had been called by someone else.
She hurried to find Pei Shu’er.
"Your uncle is sick. Hurry, come with me."
Pei Shu’er knew in her heart that Tang Peilin was tough, and with the Power of Plot at work, he wouldn’t die until his destined storyline time point. At most, he’d suffer.
Pei Shu’er looked troubled at the patient’s family members, and they immediately became displeased.
"I say, Madam Tang, there’s an order to things. Tang Peilin has always been like this; if my master doesn’t get seen soon, he’ll die."
"If you want Miss Pei to treat someone from your family, you should wait until she’s finished with those she agreed to see in advance."
Others were waiting too and quickly chimed in.
"Exactly, after Miss Pei sees him, she has to see my family’s head next."
"And my son is also sick."
"And my daughter."
Mrs. Li glanced at the dozen or so people around Pei Shu’er, all waiting for treatment. She felt her scalp tingle.
With so many people, who knows when Pei Shu’er would be free to see Tang Peilin.
By the time it was Tang Peilin’s turn, he might already be delirious with fever.
Seeing so many people, Mrs. Li unpleasantly tugged at Pei Shu’er, but Pei Shu’er dodged away.
"Shu’er, everything has a priority. Please see your uncle first. These people would understand."
Before Pei Shu’er could say a word, someone next to her spoke out.
"On ordinary days, you never consider Shu’er your kin. I’ve seen the pressure you’ve put on her, and I can’t bear it."
"Indeed, when it comes to treating Shu’er well, we collateral branches are kinder than the main house."
These words left Mrs. Li looking alternately blue and white in the face, unable to retort.
Everyone saw how unkind she was to Pei Shu’er.
Pei Shu’er sighed, "Aunt, their symptoms are really severe. Let me treat them first."
Saying this, she turned and continued her work.
Mrs. Li frowned at Pei Shu’er’s disregard. Who did Pei Shu’er think she was to act so rudely?
After all, she was her aunt.
Just as she was about to step forward and scold Pei Shu’er, those in line pushed her away.
Everyone, once prestigious, had become rough women through exile.
"Don’t interrupt her treatment. Honestly, what are you thinking, being so selfish."
"Exactly, if Shu’er makes a mistake with the prescription due to your disturbance, it’s not you who suffers, so of course, you wouldn’t care."
After these words, they all guardedly watched Mrs. Li, ready to fend her off if she tried to bother Pei Shu’er.
Pei Shu’er inwardly chuckled.
Mrs. Li cherished her reputation and how others viewed her.
Being treated this way was more satisfying than if Pei Shu’er had confronted her herself—it really got under her skin.
As soon as Pei Shu’er treated the last person, Mrs. Li pushed through, wanting to take Pei Shu’er away.
However, another woman squeezed forward, warmly pulling Pei Shu’er along.
"Shu’er, come, it’s my son’s turn next."
By the time everyone was seen, Mrs. Li had yet to say anything substantial to Pei Shu’er. Others had her all worked up, pushing and shoving her around.
When Pei Shu’er finally went to see Tang Peilin, she didn’t even need to look closely.
"It’s alright, Aunt, Uncle won’t die."
Tang Peilin, muddled from the fever, felt as if he were dying, with a congested chest and intermittent coughs.
"Pei Shu’er, please take a look at me."
He wasn’t going to die, so there was no need to check.
Pei Shu’er smiled, "Don’t worry, Uncle. While your symptoms seem severe, there’s no threat to your life."
Mrs. Li was anxious, "How can that be? Pei Shu’er, are you deliberately making things difficult, hoping for our house’s demise?"
Pei Shu’er sighed and looked at Tang Qinghua.
"Uncle caught a chill and was invaded by poisonous air, causing this. There’s a medicinal herb that can treat both fever and the poisonous air. If you can find it, it would be very beneficial for his recovery."
Before Mrs. Li and Tang Qinghua could speak, Tang Peilin hastily interjected, "Quick, give me that herb."
Pei Shu’er said, "That herb is hard to gather, growing on rocks and cliffs. I don’t have any here, but I can sketch it out for you."
Tang Peilin said, "Quick, sketch it, and have them find it."
Pei Shu’er began sketching and then showed them the herb.
"This herb is hard to find. If you can’t locate it, don’t force it. You’ll just suffer a bit more otherwise."
After saying this, Pei Shu’er was called away again.
Tang Peilin only cared about his life, not whether it was hard to find.
Once he heard it could treat poisonous air, nothing else mattered.
He feared ending up like those who succumbed to the poisonous air.
Tang Peilin glanced at Tang Qingrou, seeing her condition seemed worse than his.
So, he turned his gaze to Tang Qinghua and Mrs. Li.
"Qinghua, I know you’ve always been thoughtful and cared about my health. Now, I can only trouble you and your mother to look for this herb."
Tang Qinghua opened her eyes amid coughs.
"Father, why not let that little slut Pei Shu’er find the herb for everyone? We can’t find it ourselves."
Upon hearing this, Tang Peilin also wanted Pei Shu’er to go, but Pei Shu’er was swarmed by others, and based on his observation, they were unlikely to let her go herb searching.
He shook his head, "She’s treated like a treasure now; no one would dare let her take the risk."
Though saying this, his teeth still ground with hatred.
