Chapter 45: Not Human?...

AIDEN’S POV

"Then I’ll wait," I said in a quiet voice. "For as long as it takes."

And I meant it.

There was something about the way Jasmine looked at me in that moment—uncertain, cautious, but undeniably open—that told me she needed the space to believe this was real.

And when she whispered that question—"And if I’m not ready yet?"—she wasn’t just talking about the bond. She was talking about herself. Her walls. Her past. The storm we were slowly circling together.

The waiter arrived just then, check in hand, shattering the fragile, beautiful tension between us. I paid without a blink. Honestly, I could’ve bought the entire building if it meant preserving that moment for just a second longer.

I stood and extended my hand.

She took it.

Warm fingers, soft skin, that same jolt of energy I felt every time she touched me. And this time, she didn’t pull away.

The drive home was quiet, but it felt different this time. It was a thoughtful kind of silence, as if we were both processing the heavy conversation we’d just had.

I snuck a glance at her. She was looking out the window, but her reflection in the glass revealed the war in her eyes. I wanted to reach for her, but I didn’t.

Not yet.

"You’re falling," Ace rumbled inside me, amused. "Hard."

"I’m not denying that."

"Do you think she knows?"

"No. And I won’t rush her. She’s not just a mate to me, Ace. She’s Jasmine. And that means she decides the pace."

Ace growled low and approving. "Alpha move."

When we got back, I noticed the living room had been restored to its original, pristine elegance with no sign of the impromptu fashion explosion from earlier. The staff had clearly handled it while we were out.

But what caught my attention were the two people waiting in the room.

Alara stood near the fireplace, arms folded, and Kaiden lounged near the stairs with his usual guard-wolf posture.

"Welcome home, Alpha... Luna," Alara greeted with a knowing smile.

"I can see our future Luna is feeling better than last night," Kaiden added, giving Jasmine a subtle once-over.

She rolled her eyes. "Define ’better.’ My heels still hate me."

Alara stepped forward. "I’d like to check on you quickly. Just to be sure there’s no residual energy lingering."

Jasmine blinked. "Should I go take a bath first and come back down?"

Alara smiled gently. "It won’t take long. I promise."

We settled her on the couch. I sat beside her, but Alara motioned for space as she knelt and brought her glowing hands close.

"Just a few questions first," Alara said as she did her thing. "Any pain? Dizziness? Strange sensations?"

Jasmine hesitated. "There was a pulse. In the scar. Not exactly pain, more like... pressure. But it faded."

Alara nodded. "And how did you get the scar?"

Jasmine looked at me for a second, then shrugged. "Honestly? No idea. I’ve had it for as long as I can remember. I always thought I got it as a kid... maybe some freak accident no one talked about."

Alara’s brow creased. "Interesting."

Then she placed her hand over the crescent-shaped scar just below Jasmine’s collarbone.

The moment her fingers touched skin, a soft pulse of light shimmered under her palm. Jasmine flinched, barely, but didn’t move.

Alara didn’t speak. Just kept her hand there, eyes closed, murmuring something under her breath too softly for me to catch.

Finally, she pulled back.

Jasmine sat up a little. "Well? Am I cursed like Marcus implied, or just exhausted?"

"You’re just tired," Alara said with a small smile. "But I’ll want to keep monitoring this."

Jasmine nodded. "Great. More poking."

"You’ve been through a lot," I said, standing and offering my hand.

She took it, and we walked hand-in-hand toward the hallway.

She paused outside her bedroom, fingers still wrapped in mine.

"Aiden?"

I turned. "Yeah?"

"Thanks. For tonight. It was... nice."

I smiled. "I was aiming for unforgettable."

She gave me a look. Soft. Sweet. Then disappeared behind the door.

I watched it closely. Only when I heard the lock click did I turn and head back toward the living room.

Alara and Kaiden were still there.

And Alara’s expression had shifted from gentle healer to something far more serious.

I didn’t wait.

"I’m guessing there’s something you want to tell me," I said, motioning toward my study.

Once the door was closed and Kaiden had taken his usual post near the bookshelf, I looked at Alara. "What is it?"

She exhaled. "It’s not just a scar, Alpha. It’s a seal."

"A what?"

"A magical seal," she clarified. "Used to suppress something. Power. Energy. A bond. Or... memories."

I stared at her. "You think Jasmine’s memories were sealed?"

"Possibly. I don’t think you’re following me." Alara stepped forward. "That scar wasn’t from an accident. It was deliberately placed. Someone didn’t just injure her, they sealed her. That’s ancient magic."

I shook my head. "She’s human, Alara."

"Is she?"

The question hit harder than expected.

"She doesn’t have a wolf. She doesn’t shift. She doesn’t sense bonds the way we do."

"No," Alara agreed. "But I sensed something when she visited the pack house. A latent power. It was faint, buried deep, which is why I didn’t say anything. I needed confirmation. And now..."

"So what is she?" I asked in a low voice, still trying to understand what I was hearing.

Alara shook her head. "I don’t know. Not yet. Maybe a werewolf from a long-dormant bloodline. Maybe something older. But whatever it is—it’s tied to that seal."

Kaiden stepped forward now. "If that seal breaks, what happens?"

"That depends," Alara said. "If it’s just memories, they’ll come slowly. Dreams. Visions. She might not even realise it at first."

"She’s already had a nightmare," I said before I could stop myself. "Back in the pack house. She woke up terrified. And last night—whatever hit her at the ball—that wasn’t normal."

Alara nodded, face grim. "Then the seal is weakening. Something inside her is trying to break through."

"I don’t think we are ready for whatever that is," I said.

"Then you’ll have to help her be ready," Alara said. "Because if it breaks all at once... it could be dangerous."

Kaiden frowned. "To her?"

"To everyone," Alara said simply. "If she’s tied to ancient bloodlines, her power or whatever is locked away won’t come gently."

My chest tightened.

"She’s not just our Luna," Alara added. "She may be something the supernatural world hasn’t seen in generations."

I leaned against the desk, processing all of it.

"So you’re saying... Jasmine Frost might not be human after all."

"Yes," Alara said. "And she has no idea too. If I were you, I’d start preparing for the day that truth finally comes out."
