How To Survive A Calamity-Chapter 164: Clash Of Titans [3]
This was no time to be staring emptily into the air, looking dazed!
Thinking so, Xavier clenched his right arm, but it was empty.
"Fuck."
A subtle and small curse withered under his breath as a result.
At some point during the collapse, he had lost his sword and only weapon. Now Xavier was unarmed and seemingly defenceless.
Xavier was about to quickly rush in after Ceres, who was confronting the Sand Worm alone, but quickly winced under the strain of his wounded shoulder.
Meanwhile, a powerful exchange continued to unravel before him as the pressure from Ceres’ and the Sand Worms attacks spread as far reaching him from his position.
Xavier had to admit it, it was pathetic.
He had spoken big about how much of a liability having Alex and the others around would be to Ceres, hut wasn’t he also in the same boat then?
He was ranked Seventh among his peers, but the gap that existed between he and Ceres went far more than just that.
Xavier was incomparable to someone like her.
Especially in this state, barely unable to move.
He was useless, perhaps even more so than Alex and the girls would have been if they were around — at least they weren’t as physically wounded and unarmed as he was.
But Xavier knew he was beating himself half unfairly.
He was also considered talented and promising among his peers in the academy. His skils and abilities were truly exceptional when put amongst the masses.
In many other ways and places, Xavier Locke excelled excellently.
But here...
-Boom!
Before monsters like Ceres and the King of the Desert before him...
-Bang! -Shatter!
He was nothing.
Their battle sent shockwaves that made him wince from mere wind pressure.
’Monsters!’ as the painful and bitter realisation of truth settled in, Xavier’s expression became dark and strained.
There was no way he could interfere with a battle of such a scale!
No.
No one who was practically sane would!
Xavier prided himself on his sanity and intellect!
That was his justification — that was why he knew.
If he were to take a single step forward to join this clash against titans...
Talk less of being a liability to Ceres, Xavier would be dead without knowing what hit him.
It left a dark taste in his mouth, considering what he said to Alex, Trise, and Chelsea upon their separation, and how he spoke to them at that point.
He was no different.
But, no.
Xavier was smarter.
If it were Alex, and possibly the others, they would have blindly still rushed in into the confrontation, against everything, despite all the odds.
Then they’d get killed futilely.

A foolish and mindless end, Xavier would have called it.
And as such, he knew better than to do just that.
’I’ll stay out of it,’ Xavier gulped, his thoughts dark and heavy.
’I’m not running away, i just can’t do anything like this that won’t be detrimental instead to Ceres. I would only be a liability then. Instead, it would serve the purpose well if i withdrew from this battle, at least for now. Ceres is holding her own well enough, but I’m not sure if it’ll continue like this. I’ll hide in the background, away from the battle. And when the time is right, at any opening or chance i see, I’ll strike the best way i can to support her!’ his thoughts raced along, Xavier coldly arranged his mind and identified his next course of action.
He slowly rose back to his feet, holding his shoulder as his arm hung loosely.
’I’m not running!’
He gritted his teeth.
’I would only be a liability to Ceres if i joined...!’
He continued to tell himself...
’This is rational — it is necessary and logical!’
...He wasn’t running.
’I’ll bid my time quietly from the sidelines and support her at the right chance. This isn’t me pathetically running away.’
Xavier’s gritted teeth gnashed heavily against each other as he began to move his bruised body.
He dragged his feet across the ground as he limped forward, getting as far away from the centre of confrontation as possible.
The fact he could barely even walk on his own was testament of the inevitability of his condition.
The fact the winds from Ceres blow could almost knock him out, spoke volumes about the vast disparity between them.
The fact he could even go unnoticed like this, highlighted how little and insignificant and unnecessary his presence in the fight was, or would be.
Ceres was holding her own splendidly against the monster. From what he had barely even managed to see, she seemed to have successfully dealt another blow against it as well.
—She didn’t need him.
The Sand Dragon continued to fiercely pursue it’s prey, or perhaps, hunter. Since the immediate surrounding was now many times more larger and spacious, it could more vastly utilize it’s colossus body and size more efficiently. The damned worm was surprisingly fast and agile as well.
—It didn’t regard him as dangerous or a threat.
Xavier was just...
Insignificant.
His eyes were bloodshot at this point.
Red pulsing veins crawled up his strained neck and wiggled under the skin of his head.
Xavier continued to push forward with gritted teeth and bleeding gums.
This wasn’t his fight.
No, it couldn’t be his. He also knew this.
It was just as he said.
Only fools and the crazy would thoughtlessly throw themselves in between a clash of titans like this one.
And then—
-Crack!!
Just as Xavier thought that, feeling wrathful at himself and everything...
"Whoooahh!!!"
From very high up and above, something descended very rapidly at a starling speed and a loud cry penetrated through.
Massive pieces of rocks and debris rained down from above, where the chamber had collapsed downward from.
Xavier stopped and looked up, his bloodshot eyes widened slightly.
And amongst the suddenly raining debris, was the figure of a person.
They smashed into the massive head of the Sand Dragon, which was raised into the air at that point, and ruthlessy brought it down into the ground with a startling force.
-BOOOM!
The collision sent raging winds and shockwaves expanding through, and a puffy cloud of dust rose sharply as a result of impact.
The Cave rumbled immensely..
Cracks snaked across the ground centering themselves around the area of impact.
Xavier’s eyes widened broadly and shook, his mouth parted and his jaw hung loosely, stupefied
"Wh-"
’What just happened?!’
The Sand Dragon...right before his eyes....
As the cave rumbled and the dust slowly began to disperse, Xavier heard a certain voice that snapped him out of his shock and confusion.
"Arh! I thought you said you had the landing...?!"
"Cough, cough! H-huh? When did i ever..."
A familiar figure was slowly revealed as they rose to their feet, standing tall against the head of the titan beneath.
It was a familiar youth with messy brown hair, an irritable and vague expression, and striking gold eyes.
It was like Xavier had been saying.
Only someone crazy would throw themselves into a battle against giants.
And—
"Huh? What’s this?
It seemed like one such crazy person had just dropped by.
Finally...
Cadet number 1498, Victor Bright has just arrived at the scene.
