Human Clan Defender-Chapter 678 - s I am from the Human Clan, but I am definitely not from the Qin People (Combined - s - In search of monthly tickets)_3
Many people in the world shared the surname Mo, yet Shen Changqing knew only a few of them.
This was Guangyuan Prefecture's Minor Hillock Mountain.
The identity of the person before him was obvious.
After leaving the Heaven and Earth Passage, Shen Changqing had not returned to the Capital City. Instead, he had gone directly to various regions to eliminate the natural calamities. To put it bluntly, the natural calamities rampaging throughout Great Qin had mostly transformed into Demon Evil. Each one was invariably stained with the blood of the Human Clan.
Previously, because the natural calamities were considered undying, the Demon-Subduing Division had no way to eradicate them. However, once the reason for their undying nature was understood, the so-called "undying calamities" became a thing of the past.
Nevertheless, due to their tenacious vitality, eradicating each calamity took a considerable amount of his strength. As a result, it had taken him nearly half a year to cleanse the calamities from the various regions. The only one remaining was here in Guangyuan Prefecture.
Looking at Mo Zijin, Shen Changqing felt a surge of emotion.
The calamities indeed possessed a profound foundation. The first time he saw this person, they might not even have reached the Grandmaster level.
But now, their strength had already reached the Heaven Being Level.
What was a Heaven Being? Even the weakest could contend with high-level Demon Evils and King Rank Defender Envoys.
He himself could improve his strength rapidly because of the panel, but the other party couldn't possibly possess one.
Thus, the profound foundation of the calamities was evident.
Mo Zijin stepped aside, a faint smile on his lips. "Brother Shen, since you've come, why not come in and sit for a while?"
"Alright." Shen Changqing did not refuse and walked in directly.
Inside the main hall, the scene was largely unchanged from what he remembered. The calligraphy and paintings hanging on the walls all bore the signature 'Luotan Layman'.
Mo Zijin suddenly smiled. "It's been quite some time since we last met, hasn't it?"
Shen Changqing replied, "It must have been two or three years, I believe."
He had no real concept of time.
Thinking about it, it had indeed been quite a while.
He shifted his gaze from the paintings and calligraphy, focusing once more on the person beside him.
If they were in the outside world, he would have found it difficult to distinguish this person from an ordinary member of the Human Clan.
Sensing the gaze, Mo Zijin's expression remained unchanged. "Brother Shen, you wouldn't have come here without a reason. If I'm not mistaken, you're here to kill me, aren't you?" He spoke with certainty, as if he had anticipated it all along.
Shen Changqing offered a faint smile. "Why would Brother Mo think so?"
"You've come to Minor Hillock Mountain twice," Mo Zijin stated, his composure unwavering. "The first time could be considered an accidental trespass. But once you sensed something was amiss, you withdrew immediately. The second time, you came for the Demon Evil. Currently, I haven't made any move against the Human Clan. Given your character, you wouldn't venture here without cause.
Unless," he added, "you're confident you can deal with me."
Mo Zijin appeared to have everything under control. Even though he guessed that the other party was here to kill him, he did not immediately turn hostile and attack.
Hearing this, Shen Changqing fell silent.
If the other party had attacked immediately, he wouldn't have needed to waste words.
At that point, they would have simply let their strength do the talking.
But now, Mo Zijin's attitude made him somewhat uncertain. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"There was a time I doubted if I was truly different from others," Mo Zijin began. "Later, your words, Brother Shen, made me realize that any so-called difference was merely a shackle I had placed upon myself. I think, therefore I am. If I believe I am alive, then I am alive. Similarly, if I believe I am of the Human Clan, then I still belong to the Human Clan. If I see myself as Demon Evil, then I am counted as Demon Evil."
Mo Zijin clasped his hands behind his back and turned to look out of the main hall. The clear sky and bright daylight outside seemed to calm the spirit.
Shen Changqing's gaze remained on him. "So, Brother Mo, do you consider yourself Human Clan, or Demon Evil?"
Mo Zijin turned back, a faint smile on his face. "Human Clan? Or Demon Evil?" he mused. "There was a time when many voices echoed in my mind. They told me of their indignation—resentment at being slaughtered by Demon Evil, resentment at being abandoned by Great Qin. They hated the brutality of the Demon Evil and the heartlessness of Great Qin. Yet, other voices told me that everything stemmed from the brutality of the Demon Evil, and that Great Qin abandoned us only to save more of the Human Clan."
"Later on, I came to understand something."
"Great Qin abandoned us to preserve more of the Human Clan. From the perspective of the greater good, this is perhaps unobjectionable. But as those who were sacrificed, it's impossible for us to be completely at peace with it. Therefore, if Great Qin is heartless, then we are no longer Qin People. However, having been slaughtered by Demon Evil, we cannot, in turn, become Demon Evil ourselves and inflict the same brutality upon other members of the Human Clan."
"So—I am of the Human Clan, but I am decidedly not a Qin Person!"
He spoke calmly. He was of the Human Clan, but no longer a Qin Person.
This answer was somewhat unexpected, yet on reflection, it seemed perfectly reasonable.
If he himself had been abandoned by Great Qin, he likely wouldn't remain devoted to its cause either.
To not be a Qin Person—that wasn't an issue.
Clearly, Mo Zijin still harbored resentment towards Great Qin, but he had not forgotten his identity as a member of the Human Clan.
Shen Changqing asked, "If I truly came to kill you, what would you do, Brother Mo?"
"I have never been one to passively accept death," Mo Zijin replied, his expression serene. "If Brother Shen intends to kill me, I certainly won't sit idly by. Even if I am no match for you, I will fight with all my strength. Back when the plague ravaged Guangyuan Prefecture, I never had the chance to exert my final ounce of strength. But now, I believe I do."
Mo Zijin's expression was composed; he had sensed Shen Changqing the moment he entered his Domain.
