HUNTED-Chapter 438: A Favour
At the Hunters Association Headquarters, Kodi and Ash managed to get past security, dressed the same as the other hunters. Geared up in black combat trousers, boots, black fitted tops clinging to their bodies, revealing their shredded abs, and straps with weapons on, they fit right in, even if the weapons were unnecessary.
Other supernatural creatures would smell them out for what they were if not for the bulk size of the pair.
It wasn’t unusual now for supernatural creatures to work alongside the Hunters. It was a little sickening, considering what they used to do. Simultaneously, Kodi understood it. If it was him, he might want to work for them to ensure they weren’t doing anything immoral.
They’d breezed past others who were too preoccupied with crime and jobs and paperwork and shit Kodi didn’t bother looking at. All he needed was special access to top-secret intel. Who better than to call in a favour with an old friend who, fortunately, worked high up in the ranks of the Hunters Association.
"I can’t do that!" Lucy, the she-wolf who worked high up in the Hunters Association, hissed back at Kodi. He’d slipped through more crowds and dragged her dainty wrist from the in-house coffee shop, almost spilling what was probably already her third coffee of the day.
"Why not?"
"This is my JOB, and I happen to like it." Lucy hitched a hand to her hip. She’d cut her blonde hair short and was pulled back in a low ponytail, sharp eyes locked on his fiercely.
"This is my ma…" Kodi cleared his throat and leaned closer, using his intimidating size against the girl. "The Princess has been kidnapped."
"I haven’t heard anything about a kidnapping…" She huffed, realising that wasn’t the point. If a Cross Princess had been kidnapped, then it would have been above even her pay grade to know of such intel. There was nothing on the news about a kidnapping attempt, but why would there be if it was the Alpha King and Queen’s daughter. There would be a panic.
Lucy internally shook her head. This wasn’t important. Kodi freakin’ Black was demanding her of something impossible. "You’ve never cared for the royals before."
"You OWE me. Your words, not mine." Kodi knew he was being an ass and just how hard Lucy had climbed up the ranks. Not only was she a werewolf in this lair of ex-hunters, those highly skilled and qualified to kill supernatural creatures who went against the law, but she was also a rogue—a highly respected one.

"This is my LIFE."
"The one you have because of me," Kodi almost growled; his wolf was becoming impatient, eyes shimmering in amber.
Lucy flinched and looked away. "Shit." Without another word uttered, she abruptly turned around and started leading them through the maze of hallways in this compound that was cross between some snazzy business centre and a military base.
"You’re such an asshole," Ash hissed, his gaze locked on Lucy’s ass.
"It gets the job done." Kodi didn’t bother telling his friend off. His wolf was on the prowl for his mate. They were both 22, and their wolves were getting a little.. boisterous, horny fucks. Although Kodi was pissed Keira was his-
’Stop denying it,’ Blaze snapped, his deep voice rumbling loudly in Kodi’s mind. ’You can fool her for only a while longer, but you can’t fool me. If not her, who else would have been our mate? If you weren’t acting like an insolent child, acting out, she wouldn’t be locked up believing we hate her.’
Kodi smirked. ’Keira’s not the type to curl into a ball and wonder if Kodi Black really likes her or not. Our girl’s gonna be doing everything in her power to escape.’
’No, she’s not,’ Blaze agreed with a huff, nose sticking up pridefully. His wolf liked that Kodi called Keira their girl instead of denying it further. Kodi wouldn’t go through all of this if he didn’t care.
’Her parents are restricted by rules... I’m doing what no one else can.’
’Uhuh.’
"Here…" Lucy fobbed her keycard and entered a steel room. Their steps echoed along the metallic walls. She fobbed her card again to another door leading down a corridor until they came to a stop in front of what looked like a vault. The fob beeped, granting Lucy access once more, and the vault door opened automatically.
Instead of wads of cash or crazy secret weapons of destruction like the guys would expect of such a place, the vault merely opened up to a large domed room full of filing cabinets and one large screen, a keyboard and a desk before it. It all looked futuristic and like something more suited to a space station of sorts.
"I can give you an hour, but no more," Lucy warned, staring hard at Kodi. "This is restricted access-"
"I couldn’t tell with all of the security," Kodi deadpanned.
"Ass," Lucy muttered, shoving one of her keycards into Kodi’s chest. "This is to access the laptop.’
Laptop? Where the hell was the laptop in this huge place? Was it the freakin’ screen that fit the entire wall?
"Thanks."
"Yeah, whatever." Lucy scrambled away, most likely regretting some of her attitude towards Kodi. He understood her; he really did. This was a fat favour, one that risked her job, and he never intended to ever ask her for a favour, but here they were.
"Hey, he never says thanks! Be grateful!" Ash called after her, pouting when she ignored him with a middle finger. He then rushed to keep up with Kodi and went to the first filing cabinet.
"Go through the other one," Kodi ordered. They had an hour and a few filing cabinets to go through, but with two of them, it was possible. He would try the laptop after. Einar said it was an old facility, state of the art, but a secret to a lot of those high up in the old Hunters Association. "Any secret facilities could be in paper form…"
"All secret files are on the laptop."
Kodi paused what he was doing, his urgency and focus on the task at hand taking precedence. It was logical. Considering all the security measures in place, the ’laptop’ dominated the entirety of this space.
Rushing over to the laptop, he sat down in the desk chair, squeaking under his weight. "Does that include locations of the Hunters’ old compounds?"
"Er Kodi," Ash whisper-shouted, his voice pitching high in panic. Still, Kodi did not take note of it.
"We’re talking state of the art," Kodi continued, oblivious to the man at the doorframe, Lucy looking down, hands squeezing together, and worry forming lines on her forehead. Not to mention the scents of other werewolves behind them, blocked by the man in charge.
"Kodi Black…I expected better from the likes of you." That paused Kodi’s actions, finally realising the person speaking to him wasn’t Lucy but a man.
He spun around, stance changing, ready for a fight.
"Bit late for that." Chase Hunt stood there, hands in his trouser pockets as he looked at him smugly. He was a pretty boy in a man’s body. Underneath the combat clothing was a solid torso and years of experience killing.
