Chapter 46: Craving for death

Chapter 45

Kaizen headed straight for home, he had planned on skipping raid for today so he could have time to understand his new powers and the system. But he ended up getting a hang of it pretty quickly, so he saw no use in wasting the whole day away.

He grabbed his stuff and headed straight for Crimson dusk. Another main reason he was going was that he wanted to find out if he’d also receive points from killing portal beasts too. Those flame wolves he killed were nothing like he’d seen before, they were unique and completely different from all beast he’d encountered. So he figured they were uniquely made for his training.

If there was a chance that he could get stronger from killing portal beasts, then this was his chance to increase his stats before he went back to fight that dragon. Because given his current level, he would never be able to defeat that dragon unless he manages to become more powerful than he was now. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

He arrived just in time to find that a level five team were about to head out for the next raid. Previously, Kaizen always joined either level six or seven raid teams, but after asking, the man in charge told him that all level six and seven teams had already set out.

"What about five?" Kaizen asked, given that he was no longer as weak as before, he knew he’d be able to handle a C-rank portal without dying.

The man in charge raised a brow at Kaizen’s request, "Aren’t you E-rank?" He asked in a skeptical tone.

"Yes."

"And you’re requesting to join a level five raid team, are you craving for death or what?" The man’s question was valid, if it had been several days back before all this, Kaizen would have never dreamt of going into a C-rank portal, not even Kaizen, his shadow wouldn’t even think of it.

"I’ll be fine, I could be an extra, just carry their bags and stuff."

The man eyed Kaizen, giving him a ’don’t say I didn’t warn you’ stare, "just be careful kid. I don’t see the reason why you would risk your life just because you’ll get a higher pay from a C-rank portal."

The higher the portal rank hunters raided, the higher pays they got. Because gems from higher ranking portals were a lot more valuable and expensive.

The man quickly completed the clearance process with Kaizen because the team were about to head out.

"Stark, here’s a new one." The man in charge called out to the one who seemed to be the captain of the team.

The captain turned around and squinted at Kaizen, like he was observing him. "We have enough, i don’t need a dead weight." He replied bluntly, immediately turning away without a second glance.

Kaizen turned to the man in charge and smiled, "Thanks, I’ll take it from here." He just needed to find a way to convince the captain to let him go with them.

He walked towards the group, and everyone turned to him as he approached them.

"Didn’t you hear what the captain just said?" One of the guys asked with a stern tone, frowing deeply.

"Yes I heard."

"Then what do you want?"

"Nothing, just let me join the raid. Once we’re inside the portal, we could go our sperate ways." Kaizen replied, firstly he didn’t want to join a team where he’d have to fight in their presence and give himself away, the last thing he wanted was anyone finding out he’d awakened.

During his brief scuffle with Rulo, he made sure not to let any mana slip, he didn’t use magic, that move he made was just pure speed and strength. The points he spent on speed was worth it.

One of the guys scoffed at kaizen’s request, "Aren’t you the kid with no magic? You seriously wanna go into a C-rank portal without any backup?"

"I’ll be fine." He replied flatly.

Stark, the squad leader finally turned to look at Kaizen, his cold gaze fixed on him. "Look kid, a C-rank portal is no joke for someone like you, a small slip and you could lose your life. Once we go in there, we got no business saving your sorry ass. Understand?"

Kaizen smiled, "I understand."

"Captain are you actually letting him join us?"

"He clearly wants it, he hasn’t had a taste of fear yet, it’ll be good to let him gain some experience, although I doubt he’ll come back alive."

Everyone chuckled at Stark’s reply, casting mocking glares at Kaizen who didn’t even seem to mind.

" We should head out now, it’s time."

The group grabbed their bags and weapons and set out. The portal was located at the west district, a place not too far from the market. It needed to be closed as soon as possible to avoid risks, because if any beasts made it out, civilians would be at risks.

Several minutes later, they stood in front of the portal, read to enter. Kaizen stood behind them all like he always did before. A fire user turned to him, then tapped his shoulder playfully, "Try not to die kid."

With that, they all stepped into the portal. Almost immediately, without giving them a chance to even observe, a giant uprooted tree came flying out of nowhere towards them. They all sighted it just in time and dodged, some jumping high with amazing speed and some using magic to quickly slide off the track and away from range. Kaizen didn’t think to dodge, he knew if he moved out of the way, he’d have to be extremely fast and that would give him away, the branch came straight at him, and just when everyone thought it would hit him, he caught it with one arm.

He caught the branch before it could hit him, and because of how hard he gripped it to keep it in place, the tree branch shattered into two halves, the middle area where he had held it scattered into pieces. Everyone stared wide eyed at the scene before them. The amount of arm strength one had to have to pull that off was inhuman.
