Are healing mechanism cores useful?

It’s not that they’re completely useless, but their utility is hardly worth occupying a slot for mechanism cores.

A quartermaster briefed the young soldier on the new mechanism core. Although this type of core hasn’t been used in actual combat, it’s highly favored by veterans.

In simulated training, this kind of core significantly enhances survival rates, much more so than any healing mechanism core.

However, healing-type mechanism cores haven’t been phased out, nor will they be.

No matter how brutal the battlefield, there are still medics, let alone warriors with greater endurance.

But this loading is not for survival in combat; it’s to lay a foundation for overloading.

The quartermaster glanced at the indicator bar on his armor and commented with slight surprise, "You’re in good shape, young man; try expanding with this."

The quartermaster handed him a smaller green mechanism core, which the young soldier installed into his armor. On the indicator bar, there was now a small extension with a yellow border outside the green safety range.

"Not bad, not bad. This is the Gale Mechanism Core; give it a try."

After the young soldier attached the mechanism core, the indicator bar broke through the extended yellow border section.

The quartermaster saw this and shook his head, "This won’t do, take it off."

When soldiers load mechanism cores, overloads can only be within the allowable yellow indicator range — not the red. Why not use more of the healing mechanism cores to expand the indicator bar? Do you really think the healing mechanism cores take no toll?

Overusing those can also cause issues; only when it perfectly fits can you install one or two to exchange for overloaded mechanism cores.

"I, I think I can try it." The young soldier gritted his teeth.

The quartermaster glared at the young soldier, "What’s there to think? On the battlefield, you’ll be screaming in pain; do you still envision fighting? Or just sending yourself to your death?"

As he spoke, the quartermaster rummaged through a pile of mechanism cores and finally brought out a light blue one, "This is the Electric Propulsion Mechanism Core. It’s less taxing; it should work."

The young soldier quickly installed the mechanism core into his armor, and this time, the added yellow fill on the indicator bar didn’t surpass the yellow frame nor fully fill it, leaving a small gap.

"Can this be exchanged?"

"No need; this will do. This mechanism core provides a mild body stimulus, increasing both reaction and body speed." The quartermaster waved him off, urging him away: "Hurry now, there’s a long line behind you!"

Seeing the young soldier hesitating, the quartermaster impatiently said, "Where do you think you’ll find a perfect match? It’s already overloaded; some spare capacity is better. During battle, you’ll fill it over time!"

"Thank you." The young soldier sincerely expressed his gratitude. Though the quartermaster had been loud, his demeanor was earnest when helping him choose the mechanism core.

"Hmph... Try to survive, next!"

Returning to his unit, the young soldier felt somewhat melancholic. The veteran, perhaps out of boredom, approached him proactively, and after casting a glance, raised an eyebrow slightly, "Not bad, you managed to overload."

With that, the veteran opened a cover on his armor to reveal the indicator bar: "Remember to turn this off during combat, and, for lower-intensity fights, disable the overload cores."

The young soldier nodded, clumsily concealing the indicator bar on his armor.

He understood the logic. Even if new technology catches the enemy off guard, they were initially on the weaker side, incapable of wiping out the enemy in one go.

Conversely, they must consider how to defend afterward. If the enemy couldn’t defeat them in the first wave, they would certainly focus on analyzing their new technology.
