I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate-Chapter 61: Mr. Ya’s Dream
Mr. Ya shivered under Su Ze’s gaze. "Bro, you’re pacing so much you’re making my head spin."
Su Ze shook his head. He had just been thinking about Mr. Ya’s Escape Technique and how it might be useful.
But on second thought, that was a little too optimistic.
If he could just pinpoint Liou Wenxin’s location now, he could have Mr. Ya use his Escape Technique to reach her and bring both her and Mrs. Yun out.
Unfortunately, he didn’t know their current location.
Once this opportunity was lost and Amida returned, rescuing them from right under the nose of a veteran Saint-level powerhouse would be nearly impossible.
One thing was for sure: Amida would take Liou Wenxin and Mrs. Yun back to Luofan Academy.
Going directly to Luofan Academy to rescue them was even more unrealistic. As the nation’s premier academy, it was teeming with hidden masters. The place where they’d hold Liou Wenxin under house arrest would be secured from every conceivable angle. It was unrealistic to think he could sneak in and save her with a single Escape Technique.
’Mr. Ya probably wouldn’t dare take that risk, either.’
On the surface, it looked like Amida had captured Liou Wenxin. In reality, the entire Luofan Country stood behind her.
Keeping Liou Wenxin in Luofan Country served the nation’s interests and would have the full support of its leadership.
The only thing that can stand against a country is another country.
So, Su Ze knew he had to find a way to contact Dongli.
The problem was, he had no way of contacting anyone from the Dongli Kingdom’s government.
’I should first try to see if I can contact Liou Wenxin and Mrs. Yun, then decide on the next step.’
’If that doesn’t work, I’ll just have to sneak into Dongli to get reinforcements. But... I have to be quick. Mrs. Yun doesn’t have much time.’
Su Ze glanced at Mr. Ya again. His Escape Technique wasn’t entirely useless; it might come in handy later. At the very least, it could help him sneak into the Dongli Kingdom.
Having cleared his head, Su Ze picked up his phone and sent a message to Liou Wenxin: I’m fine. And you?
To prevent the message from being intercepted, he kept it brief, just a simple check-in to say he was safe.
The plan now was to wait for a reply while on the move.
They would head north.
Whether their next stop was Luofan Academy or the Dongli Kingdom, north was the way to go.
"Let’s go eat!"
With a single Earth Escape, Su Ze and Mr. Ya left the Black Rock Mountain Range and appeared in Mengka City.
Su Ze didn’t trust the small roadside eateries in Luofan Country. Luckily, Mr. Ya was leading the way this time. He had some pull locally and easily led Su Ze into the wealthy district.
In stark contrast to the poverty and backwardness outside, the wealthy district was a dazzling world of modern luxury.
They chose a nice-looking restaurant and chatted over their meal.
"Mr. Ya, let’s add each other. It’ll be easier to stay in touch," Su Ze suggested.
"Sure. Bro, don’t keep calling me Mr. Ya. I have a name. It’s Yargha."
"Okay, Mr. Ya."
’The names of these Luofan people are all so strange. I can’t be bothered to remember them.’
Just then, Su Ze’s phone buzzed. It was a reply from Liou Wenxin, containing just five words: All is well. Don’t worry.
Su Ze’s brow furrowed. It was just as he’d thought. Liou Wenxin’s communications were being monitored. Every message was likely being reviewed by someone from Luofan Country; otherwise, she wouldn’t have replied with just those five simple words.
He thought for a moment and decided to go to Luofan Academy first.
After all, he’d have to pass by Luofan Academy to get to Dongli anyway.
"Mr. Ya, are you familiar with Luofan Academy?" Su Ze asked.
"Luofan Academy? That’s my alma mater."
"Well, I’m impressed. I didn’t realize you were a distinguished graduate of Luofan Academy, Mr. Ya."
"Ahem!" Mr. Ya coughed awkwardly. "I haven’t graduated yet."
Su Ze blinked, giving him an odd look. ’He looks like he’s almost thirty, and he still hasn’t graduated?’
Mr. Ya’s face reddened, but he insisted stubbornly, "I failed the combat assessment, but it wasn’t my fault! The examiner was just mad because she was embarrassed, so she made things difficult for me."
Mr. Ya then launched into a vivid retelling of his glorious exploits during the assessment.
As a Combat-type Evolutionary, Mr. Ya had to pass a practical combat assessment to graduate. The objective was to defeat an examiner who was holding back their true strength.
When it was Mr. Ya’s turn, for a full half-hour, he didn’t let the examiner lay a finger on him. Of course, he didn’t lay a finger on the examiner either.
"My entire skillset is based on survival! What was I supposed to do?
"I don’t have a single offensive skill. You expect me to charge in and... tap her on the chest with my little fists?
"In the end, that woman stopped holding back her power and still couldn’t touch me! She couldn’t back down without losing face, so she just failed me. The reason she gave was ’candidate is timid and battle-shy.’ Isn’t that ridiculous?"
Su Ze was stunned for a moment. "Then why don’t you absorb an offensive skill? With your survival abilities, you’re practically untouchable. If you added an attack skill, you could just wear your opponents down."
"You think I haven’t tried?" Mr. Ya sighed. "I once absorbed an extract that contained four offensive skills, but I just had to absorb the only survival skill. Every time I absorb an extract, it’s like the offensive skills actively avoid me."
"After I acquired five survival and escape skills in a row, I resigned myself to my fate and decided to just keep going down this path!
"You’ve probably heard that to become a powerful Evolutionary, you have to specialize. The price of being an all-rounder is mediocrity. Some specialize in Spiritual Power, some in strength, some in speed, some in fire attacks... so why can’t I specialize in survival?"
Ambition flashed in Mr. Ya’s eyes. "There’s no turning back for me now! I, Yargha, will become the first Saint-level master of survival in the six nations!"
"Excellent!" Su Ze clapped. "You’ve got ambition, Mr. Ya!"
"Everyone is born with a useful talent. I’m sure that collection of survival and escape skills you have will prove its worth!"
’Like being my driver... I have to say, this Escape Technique is a really fast way to travel.’
’I hereby dub you Ya Paopao, the Red Hare among men, the Yaya Express...’
Among the Evolutionaries Su Ze had met, Liou Wenxin was similar in that she had no offensive skills, but she was a researcher, not a Combat-type Evolutionary.
Besides, Liou Wenxin’s Spiritual Power was far stronger than others of the same rank. Once her evolution level increased, she could just learn a few spiritual attacks and become powerful in her own right.
She was a lot like Amida. Amida was the classic template for a research-type Evolutionary who pivoted to combat.
Mr. Ya was flushed with excitement, as if he had met a kindred spirit. He pulled Su Ze into having a couple more Cokes with him.
"Mr. Ya, I want to run something by you. I’m planning a trip to Luofan Academy and was hoping you could be my guide. What do you think?"
Mr. Ya hesitated. "Well... but I have to livestream."
"The Spirit Root Tree incident will probably be over by today. What other hot topics are there to stream in Mengka City after this? You should get out, find some new content.
"You’re in a different league now. You’ve livestreamed a battle between Saints. Are you really going to go back to streaming group fights against a Venomous Giant Lizard?
"Trust me, the next big headline is at Luofan Academy!"
