I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate-Chapter 64: Cooperative Hunt
’This guy really is a master of all sorts of escape skills. He doesn’t just know Earth Escape, but Water Escape too...’ Su Ze was a little tempted by Mr. Ya’s proposition.
He wasn’t one to sit still, and he had a strong sense of curiosity about the bizarre.
"Will it be dangerous?" Su Ze asked.
"Now that’s just insulting!" Mr. Ya puffed out his chest. "You can’t question my expertise. When it comes to survival, I’m a professional."
"Then let’s go take a look."
Su Ze still had faith in Mr. Ya’s abilities to escape and stay alive.
Besides, with his own Regeneration Skill, his survival capabilities were also incredibly strong.
Without another moment’s hesitation, Mr. Ya pulled Su Ze and jumped off the boat.
The moment he entered the water, Su Ze immediately felt a protective layer of pure water—distinct from the surrounding Brahma River Water—enveloping his body and keeping him separate.
Mr. Ya didn’t use his Water Escape Skill right away. Keeping Water Escape active for an extended period consumed a great deal of stamina and evolutionary power. He wouldn’t be able to sustain it for long, and that would ruin the stream.
"What skill is this?" Su Ze asked, intrigued.
"It’s a skill from a wondrous item." Mr. Ya chuckled, pulling out a shriveled fish head. "This particular wondrous item is called a Water-Repelling Fish Head."
"Something like this actually exists?" It was a real eye-opener for Su Ze.
’The wondrous item’s effect is pretty decent, but its appearance is nothing to write home about. It looks like you could chop up a couple blocks of tofu and make a stew with it.’
Mr. Ya quickly started his live stream. His broadcast from the boat during the day hadn’t gone well; the audience wasn’t interested in him just talking. That’s why he decided to try an underwater stream at night to boost his popularity.
However, the water was too murky, and with it being nighttime, underwater visibility was poor. Mr. Ya then pulled out a "Luminous Pearl," which illuminated the surrounding area and made the stream’s video feed much clearer.
"Another wondrous item? Mr. Ya, you’ve been holding out on me," Su Ze said, amazed.
"Hehe, this isn’t a wondrous item. It’s a ’Nightlight Pearl’ developed by Evolutionary Technology, also made from materials taken from exotic beasts."
Su Ze followed Mr. Ya, watching him begin his "educational" live stream.
Brahma River Turtles and Brahma River Giant Catfish were everywhere underwater. Mr. Ya aimed his camera at a large group of Brahma River Turtles. "This is the most common exotic beast in the Brahma River," he said. "The Tier 1, D-Class Brahma River Turtle. It has a gentle temperament and won’t attack humans unless provoked."
Next, he approached a giant catfish larger than a man. "This is a Brahma River Giant Catfish," he said. "Also a Tier 1 exotic beast, but the males are D-Class, while the females are E-Class."
"Like the Brahma River Turtles, the Brahma River Giant Catfish are social animals. They might attack people, but they’re cunning—they won’t attack anyone stronger than they are."
"And this is a Brahma River Carp, Tier 1, E-Class. It’s at the bottom of the Brahma River’s exotic beast food chain, but it has a powerful reproductive ability and grows quickly."
Su Ze and Mr. Ya strolled along the riverbed, watching schools of giant catfish and carp swim past above them.
Su Ze couldn’t help but marvel. ’This place is a true angler’s paradise. The river is full of absolute monsters.’
’If I caught one of these, wouldn’t I have to carry it all the way home and then parade it around my apartment complex for a dozen laps or so?’
As they walked, the water ahead of them suddenly grew exceptionally murky. Something was approaching, and fast.
Mr. Ya pointed at the behemoth charging toward them and explained to his stream’s viewers, "This is a Brahma River Crocodile, Tier 2, C-Class. It’s one of the few exotic beasts in the Brahma River that will actively attack humans. They’re vicious and extremely powerful fighters."
In the time it took him to say that, the Brahma River Crocodile was nearly on top of them.
Only then did Su Ze get a clear look at the Brahma River Crocodile. It was enormous, its body covered in armor-like scales. Its long snout was lined with sharp teeth, resembling a saw, and a tumor-like nose grew from its tip.
The Brahma River Crocodile opened its jaws and snapped at them. Unflustered, Mr. Ya held his phone steady for the stream, activating his Water Escape Skill at the very last second to pull Su Ze away from the spot.
They reappeared dozens of meters away. Mr. Ya kept the camera trained on the Brahma River Crocodile; that close call had earned him a flood of comments.
Worried that Su Ze had been scared, Mr. Ya offered to take him back to the boat first, only to see that Su Ze was lost in thought.
Having experienced the miraculous Water Escape, a bold idea formed in Su Ze’s mind. He asked, "What if we team up and try to hunt this Brahma River Crocodile?"
Su Ze wanted to see if his current explosive power could break through the defenses of a Tier 2 exotic beast.
He also wanted to see if his own immense power, combined with Mr. Ya’s incredible Escape Technique, could create a synergy where the sum was greater than its parts.
"Uh... can we really do that?" Mr. Ya said, hesitating.
"My specialty is offense. You use your escape technique to get me close, I’ll land a hit, and then you immediately get me out of there. If we repeat that a few times, we can definitely wear it down."
Hearing the plan, Mr. Ya thought it was worth a shot. Most importantly, he had absolute confidence in his own escape skills. Even if they couldn’t kill the Brahma River Crocodile, he was certain he could get both himself and Su Ze away safely.
Besides, hunting a Brahma River Crocodile—what amazing content that would be for the stream!
"Alright, let’s do it!"
Mr. Ya immediately changed his stream title to "Showdown with the Brahma River Crocodile!"
He mounted his phone on his body. "Alright everyone, I’m about to give you a first-person, immersive experience of our showdown with the Brahma River Crocodile!"
In all his years as an Evolved, Mr. Ya had only ever run. He had never once gone on the offensive. The prospect made his blood pump with excitement, and he couldn’t wait to begin.
"Ready?" he asked, glancing sideways at Su Ze.
Su Ze nodded.
The next instant, he felt his body dissolve into a current, shooting through the river. In the blink of an eye, they appeared behind the Brahma River Crocodile.
Ant Power plus Needle Strike. Without a moment’s hesitation, Su Ze led with his strongest attack.
Su Ze jabbed a finger at the scales on the Brahma River Crocodile’s back, instantly shattering them. A sharp Qi Force bored into the creature’s body, leaving behind a small, bleeding hole. Crimson blood gushed from the wound, standing out vividly against the murky water.
The Brahma River Crocodile let out a furious roar and swung its tail around in a wide arc.
"To its flank!" Su Ze yelled.
Mr. Ya understood immediately. He activated Water Escape, pulling Su Ze out of the way of the tail whip and repositioning them on the crocodile’s other side.
The scales on the Brahma River Crocodile’s underbelly were far less durable than those on its back. From this angle, they had a clear shot at its soft, white-scaled belly.
The boost from Ant Power only lasted a few seconds, so Su Ze had to land as many attacks as possible within that window.
Activating Needle Strike again, Su Ze pierced straight through the Brahma River Crocodile’s abdomen from the side. The resulting wound was even more severe, and fresh blood stained the silt on the riverbed.
Enraged, the Brahma River Crocodile slammed its tail and front claws into the ground simultaneously, unleashing its signature skill: Thousandfold Fury.
It was an AoE skill that shook the ground, kicking up an Air Wave Attack. It also had a slight Dizziness effect, which stunned Mr. Ya for a moment, causing him to miss his chance to use Water Escape.
