I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate-Chapter 73: Luofan Academy
Before the grand, historic gates of Luofan Academy.
Mr. Ya whispered a reminder to Su Ze, "Boss, just act natural. Luofan Academy is open to the public. The guards won’t bother you unless you look suspicious."
Su Ze looked around and saw that it was true.
People were constantly coming and going through the academy’s main gate. Some were clearly students, while some of the older ones were probably teachers, but the two young security guards on duty at the entrance hadn’t stopped anyone.
"Let’s go."
Su Ze and Mr. Ya headed for the gate, one after the other.
But just as they reached the entrance, a guard shouted, "Stop! Show me some identification."
It turned out they had stopped Mr. Ya.
Su Ze acted as if nothing was wrong and walked straight into the academy without any trouble.
Mr. Ya was furious. He had just told Su Ze that the guards only paid attention to suspicious people, and now he was the one being stopped.
’Am I, a legitimate Luofan Academy student—a senior who hasn’t graduated in over ten years—really that suspicious?’
Mr. Ya immediately pulled his student ID, which he hadn’t used in years, from his bag and slapped it into the guard’s hand.
The young guard opened it, his expression turning a little strange. "Oh, it’s you. My apologies, please go ahead."
Mr. Ya was suspicious. "You’ve heard stories about me?"
"Your face is full of stories."
Mr. Ya couldn’t really get angry, so he just took back his ID and walked through the gate.
Su Ze had Mr. Ya show him around the campus for half an hour. Everywhere they went, Mr. Ya would offer a bit of commentary.
Su Ze was distracted, the words going in one ear and out the other.
Mr. Ya lowered his voice. "Boss, just tell me straight. What are we here for?"
Su Ze didn’t hide it. "To find someone."
"A student or a teacher?"
"Not a student. Let me ask you, if your academy wanted to hide someone, where would they put them?"
Mr. Ya sensed something was off. "Boss, who exactly are you looking for? If you’re not clear, I won’t have a clue where to start!"
Su Ze pondered for a moment. "A very brilliant evolutionary expert. She was captured by your Mr. Amida and is probably under house arrest."
Mr. Ya jumped. This involved a Saint-level Overlord—that was way out of his league. He asked, "You’re not planning on breaking her out, are you?"
"I don’t have that kind of power. I just want to meet her and exchange a few words."
Mr. Ya breathed a sigh of relief. If Su Ze was planning a rescue, he wouldn’t have the guts to get involved.
He thought for a moment and began to analyze the situation. "Finding someone in Luofan Academy, which covers thousands of acres, is no easy task. But we can start by using the process of elimination to rule out places she couldn’t be."
"First, we can rule out all the academic buildings. Second, the student dorms are too crowded and conspicuous, so that’s unlikely too."
Su Ze nodded in agreement.
Mr. Ya opened his phone, pulled up an internal map of Luofan Academy, and marked the excluded locations with red X’s.
"Cafeterias, out. Commercial district, out.
"Knowing Mr. Amida’s style, he’d want to handle this cleanly, leaving no room for gossip. To show respect for such a talent, he would definitely provide the evolutionary expert with a comfortable living environment. So, we can discount any places that don’t have good living conditions.
"These swimming pools, gymnasiums, libraries, and regular offices... they can all be ruled out."
After all these eliminations, Su Ze suddenly realized there weren’t many places left on the map.
The faculty housing area, the various laboratories, and Mr. Amida’s own exclusive office building.
Mr. Ya stared at the map, continuing his process of elimination.
"The faculty housing area is huge, and this whole section has a high occupancy rate. Just like the student dorms, it’s crowded and conspicuous, so we can rule it out. The only possibility would be the newly built blocks.
"As for the labs, we can rule out the public ones. Some professors at the academy have their own exclusive laboratories, which are equipped not only for research but also with excellent living quarters. A lot of these were built, and some are currently vacant. We should focus on investigating those.
"The headmaster’s office building is also a strong possibility. Other than Mr. Amida and his two secretaries, no one usually stays in that building for long. There’s a lot of empty space inside, more than enough to house a few people.
"The only problem is, that building won’t be easy to investigate. The two of us can’t get in. Even Mr. Amida’s two secretaries are at the Butterfly Stage."
After listening to Mr. Ya’s analysis, Su Ze said thoughtfully, "The faculty residences would be the easiest to check, but I don’t think it’s very likely."
Liou Wenxin is most likely being held together with Mrs. Yun. For Mr. Amida to keep Liou Wenxin under house arrest, he’d need to assign at least two Butterfly Stage experts to guard her. The faculty residences are all suites; housing that many people would be crowded and inconvenient.
Of course, it’s also possible that Mr. Amida is holding Mrs. Yun captive separately.
But as Mr. Ya said, Mr. Amida is a smiling tiger, a gentleman only on the surface. He does everything with an eye for appearances, so it’s unlikely he’d formally imprison Mrs. Yun.
After all, his goal isn’t just to put Liou Wenxin under house arrest; he wants her to work for him, to serve Luofan Country.
Keeping Liou Wenxin and Mrs. Yun in the headmaster’s office building would make a lot of sense. With Mr. Amida himself presiding there, he wouldn’t need to assign extra guards.
Even when Mr. Amida is away, his two Butterfly Stage secretaries are still there.
"We’ll start our search with the headmaster’s office building and the laboratories."
Mr. Ya’s face paled slightly. "How are we supposed to investigate the headmaster’s office building?"
Su Ze already had an idea. "It’s actually simple. People have to eat. Even a Saint-level Overlord, whose body can survive without food or water, generally wouldn’t give up the pleasure of enjoying a good meal. And even if he doesn’t eat, the academy will still deliver his meals as a matter of course.
All we have to do is pay attention to how many meals are delivered for every breakfast, lunch, and dinner. From that, we can naturally deduce how many people are living inside."
Mr. Ya’s eyes lit up. "Boss, you’re a genius!"
Su Ze said, "Then let’s divide the work. You stake out the laboratories, and I’ll watch the headmaster’s office building?"
Mr. Ya chuckled. "No need to go to all that trouble. I’ve been a student here for over a decade, after all. Leave it to me."
Mr. Ya made a few calls right in front of Su Ze and quickly obtained the meal delivery records for the last half-month.
"They’re just meal records, not some big secret."
Su Ze marveled at how much easier things were with connections. He’d definitely picked the right person when he asked Mr. Ya to be his guide.
The two of them looked through the digital delivery records, immediately finding the entry for the headmaster’s office building.
The meals for the headmaster’s office building were specially prepared by a top-tier chef hired by the academy and delivered to the building three times a day, right on schedule.
Looking at the records from the past half-month, there was no significant fluctuation in the number of meals; it was the same as always.
Breakfast, in particular, was clear at a glance: three glasses of milk or soy milk—obviously a meal for three people.
’Could it be that Liou Wenxin isn’t in the headmaster’s office building?’
Su Ze had no choice but to turn his attention to the meal delivery records for the laboratories. Upon closer comparison, he actually found something.
