I am the Mad Heir of the Strongest Clan-Chapter 28: Entrance Exams
Chapter 28 - Entrance Exams
Jules lunged forward, his otherwise average strength multiplied by Mana Enhancement.
At the Orange stage, Mana Enhancements can increase strength up to fivefold, but Jules, who used mana both internally and external as a Magic Swordsman only increased his by threefold.
The cadet wielding a sword, who had brown hair and brown eyes and stood six feet tall, reacted calmly.
In the first few exchanges, Jules launched attacks straight at the cadet, who blocked everything.
Despite Jules being the only one using Mana Enhancement, the cadet's footwork and refined swordplay neutralized every strike—he wasn't just strong, he was composed.
This is how the fastest second year fights...
After a few more exchanges, the Cadet parried Jules's sword and brought down a vertical slash.
Jules grunted as he brought his sword up to block the falling sword.
But it never hit.
The path of the sword changed and turned to a diagonal slash to Jules's left.
Prepared for this, Jules hastily created a small barrier to reduce the force.
A futile attempt.
The barrier shattered, causing the sword to connect with his ribs.
Jules used this opportunity to create a distance, his face frowning slightly.
Landing, he immediately stretched out his hands and said, instructing mana:
"Water Bullet. Duplicate."
About 15 tier-two water bullets appeared in a semicircle with the Cadet at the center.
Each magic circle hovered for a half-second, then launched the bullets in quick succession, aiming straight for the Cadet's core.
As the spell started shooting bullets at him, the Cadet wove himself between their paths like a dancer.
"Damn!" appeared in Jules's mind as he finished casting his spell and held War in a defensive position.
The Cadet had dodged the water bullets and closed the distance at the same time.
Now, he was upon Jules.
Jules gritted his teeth—he couldn't match this Cadet in close quarters. He had to force a distance and rely on spells.
He had to focus as his opponent shifted all around him, launching his attacks.
At one point, Jules couldn't catch up, receiving a hit to his back.
Jules felt the pain as he rolled forward and created a distance again.
He spun around, voice steady despite the strain. 'Let flame lie in wait, patient and unseen. Ignite!'
A tier 3 spell, Fire Mine, with missing runes due to haste, revealed its large magic circle beneath the Cadet.
Jules had dropped the spell at a spot the Cadet would likely step into—baiting him to it with his own retreat.
Flame poured out like a pillar beneath the Cadet as his mouth moved.
A flash of white light wrapped around him, blocking the worst of the flames.
Jules immediately began casting another spell.
"Water Bullet. Duplicate!"
Another round of Water Bullet barrage shot at the Cadet, who had just survived the mine.
Immediately the spells were launched, he started casting another.
"Gather the raging inferno, forge it in my grasp—let it fly and consume all it touches!"
A large magic circle appeared in front of him, releasing a large ball of fire that was about to swallow the Cadet.
Jules realized how low his mana was and immediately started back stepping, closing the distance to the stand, his sword and forearm connected by red veins.
As Jules used Body and Mana recovery, the dueling platform's edge neared behind him, where Examiners watched the match.
Still looking at his opponent, his eyes suddenly widened as he saw the Cadet try to reduce the power of the fireball, sending a whirlwind of slashes.
The Cadet took upon some burns, his face stern as he darted forward.
A few steps of his covered a large distance as he ran, as if he was leaping like a rabbit.
He swung his wooden sword, as if unready for whatever Jules had just done.
But in that instant, Jules involuntarily smiled.
The Cadet's eyes also widened as he glanced behind Jules.
There, Jules had carefully placed his unarmed hand, conjuring a green magic circle that was about to be completed.
"O fleeting blade, unseen yet sharp–" Jules muttered as the Cadet pushed himself to his limit, "–rend the air and sever all! Wind Blade!"
An arc of condensed air shot out of the magic circle moving at high speed.
Jules's goal wasn't to bring the Cadet down, it was to cut the rope!
The Wind Blade swiftly cut the rope, letting the scroll float gently, and clashed into a barrier one of the examiners had created.
"You have passed."
As a voice resounded, so did a low roar from the beast behind, causing the cadet to halt in motion.
Jules had stopped moving, a wooden sword placed a hair's breadth in front of him.
Freaking hell! That would have sent me out cold for days!
He thought as he smiled weirdly while shifting the wooden sword away from his face.
The Cadet retracted the sword and fixed it into his belt.
With a nod and a smile, he patted Jules's shoulder and said, "You're one surprising dude!"
He had more to say, but seeing the examiners, he winked at Jules as he walked to the side of the table.
Jules also turned towards the examiners.
The floating scroll shimmered with light and flew to him as the green haired lady, Abigail said, "Congratulations. Further information will be passed on Thursday Evening."
Holding the scroll, Jules bowed forward and said, "Thank you."
He turned around, picked up his sword wrap and left the hall.
I'm tired... Tsk. Monsters are easier—they don't dance around like that... Jin was even faster than I expected. Using Blood Consumption was not part of my plan!
But my mana was below half and my stamina was dropping... Hmm, now I can pay less attention to magic and more to my body and swordsmanship.
Jules thought as he walked into a hall.
His hand with the scroll was pocked in his trouser, while he held War in his other hand.
He was so into his thoughts, he didn't notice that the stares of the surrounding people were even stronger.

As Jules left, the examiners exchanged a short round of words.
The male orc, Besta, laughed. "That kid... Do you guys think he might actually be an elf?"
Turning towards him, Ana–the first year head magic instructor–condemned it.
"Elves are skilled at using magic, they still rely on techniques, studies and other sources.
"This kid, though, has an affinity with mana in general, being able to shape magic to favor him and adapt to wield all forms of magic.
"Baically, he was forcing the Magic Circles to remain stable despite there being multiple flaws. Did you see how he shortened spells?"
They wouldn't know that Jules's abnormal mana control and multiple days of practice and simulations had allowed him to achieve this.
Besta scoffed. "Ana, take a joke."
"Are his affinities listed in his application?" Ana turned to Abigail.
"No. He barely gave any details about his prowess. But there's something interesting. His chosen main department is Warrior."
"Eh?" Ana blurted out. "What a waste of talent..."
Besta suddenly laughed. ""Ana, maybe you missed it—that guy has more than Magic going on for him."
Beside him, the Cadet that face Jules, named Jin, gave an acknowledging nod.
Abigail chimed in. "The cadets of the past two years are truly a sight to see. A lot more students than I thought surprised me today."

"I can't wait to handle these whelps," Besta declared.
"Hopefully, it's not a drag." Abigail agreed skillfully.
