I Am The Only Witch Hunter-Chapter 310: The Dead Singer
Some time later. Kraus sat on his knees in the hideout, inhaling through his nose and breathing out through his nose. He constantly recited the oath which he made upon entering the Guild of Xander.
"I swear to guard at the gate of men.
I swear to strike all evil dares crossing the kingdom of men.
I swear to stand with my brothers and sisters even in the face of death.
I swear to stay in the dark to protect the light. I swear to never betray the guild, humanity and my honor."
Siderius called this the Xander’s Oath. He constructed a similar Psychosis Technique to Hunter’s Oath, which Sir Cael Rohan had created.
This oath made sure Kraus or anyone that was given the witch hunter mutation would never be able to betray the guild or Siderius. If they did, they would turn into a mindless monster because of mutation collapse.
After meditating for two hours, Kraus opened his eyes. He now had the golden eyes of a cat and the vertical pupils similar to Siderius. The only difference was that Siderius’ eye color was red.
"How are you feeling?" Siderius said.
"Different, my lord." Kraus clenched his fist tightly. "So this is what true power really is. Something that no ordinary man can imagine.
And anyone can use it... Not just witches."
Siderius smiled. He approached Kraus and patted his shoulder. "This is only a fraction of what is yet to come."
"I will forever be grateful to you, my lord. You made me." Kraus bowed deeply.
"I am glad. Now I need your help Kraus."
"Please command me, my lord."
Siderius nodded. "The three... ’situations’ you gave me were indeed special. But they aren’t what I need. I need something else, Kraus.
A beast or a creature with a unique hearing ability."
"Is it for a Sonara mutation, my lord?"
"Yes, it is."
"Please give me three days, my lord. I will contact my spies and find it for you."
"Three days it is. I will stay in this town for that duration."
"I’ll deal with it now."
Kraus stood up and quickly went away. He was always very efficient in his work.
Siderius leaned back to his chair. "Now. We’ll wait."
Siderius had five mutations so far.
The first was the eyes of an owl. It gave him dark vision and the ability to see mana.
The second was the eyes of a panther. It gave him adjustable pupils and Dynamic Vision.
The third was the eyes of a vampire. It gave him Blood Vision and Memory Extract.
The fourth was the ears of a bat. It gave him Echolocation and Wide-Range Hearing.
The fifth was the ears of a werewolf. This didn’t have any unique abilities and was purely a physicality boost.
The werewolf caused his Strength, Stamina, and Endurance to pass 10 points of human peak. This gave him three additional abilities.
Explosive Impact for Strength. For a short amount of time, he could be twice as strong as usual. Similar to his Agility Mutation, Explosive Speed, which also made him twice as fast for a short amount of time.
Reserve Energy for Stamina. This made him able to store excess stamina for later use. It acted like a hidden compartment for energy if Siderius needed it.
And finally, Minor Regeneration for Endurance.
Siderius looked at his hand and sliced a small cut through it. The wound quickly closed up after a few seconds.
This ability gave him the regenerative power that no human had. A healing factor.
His eyes’ natural Mutation was Spirit Eyes, the ability to see Karma on a being.
He had collected all five natural mutations for his attributes.
Agility Mutations: Explosive Speed.
Endurance Mutations: Minor Regeneration.
Perception Mutations: Dark Vision, Mana Detection, Hunter Focus, Dynamic Eyes, Blood Vision, Memory Extract, Spirit Eyes, Echolocation, Wide-Range Hearing.
Stamina Mutations: Reserve Energy.
Strength Mutation: Explosive Impact.
"I am accumulating quite a lot of mutations now. After 10 points, I would need to reach at least 50 points to be able to have more natural mutations. In the meantime, artificial mutations are enough."
After three days, Kraus returned with good news. He found quite a few contenders for Siderius to consider. But there was only one that piqued his interest.
"A spirit?" Siderius said.
"Yes, my lord. From what I’ve heard. She could hear the people all around town and would appear out of nowhere."
Siderius rubbed his chin. He had never thought of grafting an organ of a specter before. But maybe it’d have some unique hearing ability for him to graft.
If not, he would have to go with the usual mutation like Vibration Sensing, Air Hearing, etc.
"Where is it?" Siderius said.
Kraus bowed and gave him a map and a piece of paper. "Anything you want is inside, my lord."
"You’ve done a good job, Kraus. Keep practicing meditation. When you’re done, send a letter and I will come and get you a second one."
"Of course, my lord." Kraus bowed at him again as Siderius stood up and walked out.
The target this time was a ghost, not a hostile phantom like Jude’s son. A ghost was a benign spirit that wouldn’t attack people unless provoked.
According to what Kraus had gathered. It was the spirit of a dead singer. A famous singer in the North actually.
She killed herself by hanging before her 29th birthday.
"I wonder why she did that. Another mystery to be solved."
Siderius climbed on Red and rode out of time. He went to Santa Inista. Although this place had ’Santa’ in its name, it wasn’t a monastery like Santa Roberto. It was just an old town that was named after some saint.
The town was in Jude’s territory. Siderius didn’t worry much about Jude so he just rode in. Jude wouldn’t mind.
It would be a different story for another lord.
Santa Inista was a unique town. Jude intended to turn this place into an entertainment district and merged it with Scalize. But he didn’t have the time and heart to do it.
When Siderius arrived, he could immediately notice the difference in the air. People here were livelier and more dreamy. Not a sight of a commoner in place. Most were wealthy nobles and citizens.
Some servants did appear but they did not have the pity look of a commoner at all.
Siderius rode into town and immediately, people noticed him.
"Look at him! Isn’t he like a dream?"
"That white hair! Oh, my god. I want to share a bed with him."
Siderius ignored the comments and went to the graveyard, where the singer in question was lying beneath the ground.
He saw a woman standing in front of the grave, staring at it.
Siderius approached the woman.
