I Am The Only Witch Hunter-Chapter 318: Sneaking in the Night
Siderius travelled light this time. He didn’t equip his armor or the bear cloak. He also didn’t bring Blazing Soul or all of his knives and utility belt.
The only thing he wore on his body was the black hunter uniform and the Iron Mask.
Siderius approached the castle from the cliff side, where no one would be attempted to climb on. He took out a pair of unique gloves with spikes on the inner palm.
The gloves wrapped around the wrist, preventing it from slipping off. The metal spikes were made from Strong Steel and could easily go through rocks and cobblestones.
Siderius carefully placed the spikes upon the cliff. Once they were in contact, he drove the spikes into the rocks. It cut through the rock easily and made minimal noise.
Siderius then placed his other hand up high then drove it into the rock similar to the first one.
He repeated this motion again and again, slowly climbing up from the ground and reached the caster on the top of the cliff.
It took him quite a while but he managed to reach a window after two hours. Siderius carefully observed if there were any guards inside the castle before hopping in.
’Four hours before sun rise.’ Siderius thought to himself silently. ’Better make it quick.’
Siderius didn’t wear his usual boots to avoid making noise. He wore a pair of thick sock that would suppress the sound his feet would make. He carefully traversed the hallway on the red carpet in the middle of the room.
He knew nothing about the layout of the castle or where Eli was. But he could ask someone about it.
Siderius quickly made his way to the servant quarters. The servant quarters were always located on the ground floor and usually behind the grand stairs or in the most dark corner of the castle.
Siderius knew this fact very well and easily found the room he was looking for. He took out a piece of small wire to pick the lock.
A sharp ’click’ echoed.
’Bingo.’ Siderius gently pushed the door open.
The servant quarters were split into rooms with four bunk beds each. The room Siderius just picked had eight servants living inside. This room was not a good target as startled one servant could easily wake up another.
Siderius gently closed the door and went to the other rooms.
He went through a few rooms but didn’t find any lonely servants. Then he heard a door click.
Siderius quickly climbed onto the wall and stuck himself in the ceiling of the hallway.
From a servant bedroom, a maid walked out in her white sleeping robe. In her hand was a chamberstick, a metal handle with a burning candle on top.
The maid yawned then walked slowly across the hallway. She got out of the castle to get to the privy outside.
The maid shivered gently when she relieved herself and quickly finished. When she opened the door of the privy, Siderius grabbed her from behind and strangled her.
The strangle was quick and the maid fell unconscious before she even understood what was happening.
Siderius caught her gently and moved her to a hidden bush in the courtyard.
"Show me what you know." Siderius opened the maid’s eyes. His vampiric red eyes dug into her memory and read what was hidden beneath the surface.
Soon, he learned the general layout of the castle and all the miscellaneous information.
"Varick Hallolass is not in the castle at the moment. This maid doesn’t know where Eli is being held. The butler does."
Siderius carried the maid into a storage room inside the castle and tied her up. He put a cloth over her mouth to stop her from screaming when she woke up.
"Next is the butler."
The butler had his own room inside the castle. He didn’t sleep in the servant quarters. Siderius easily went past the guard and infiltrated into the butler’s room. He knocked the man out cold and read his memory similar to the maid.
"Got it."
From the butler’s memory, Siderius knew that there was a prison underneath the castle. However, that place was heavily guarded. Siderius needed to get through all the guards without alerting the entire castle.
He got out of the main building and made his way to the prison cell. In front of the prison cell were two guards sitting on a low table playing some cards.
"Look! I won!"
"Argh! Are you cheating?"
"Of course not!"
Suddenly, there was some noise in the far bush. The two guards glanced over and stayed silent. After not hearing anything else, they shrugged and continued with their game.
But then another noise. The guards stood up and drew his sword, their eyes were drawn to the bush.
"Who is over there?!" A guard shouted.
He heard a ’thud’ noise behind him. His friend fell to the ground unconscious. Before he was able to turn back and saw the enemy, Siderius grabbed his neck and strangled him. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"You... Help..." The guard muttered but couldn’t get his voice out of his throat. The slumber quickly took over him.
Siderius tied the two guards up and put cloth over their mouths. Then he tossed them inside a bush.
"These guards will wake up soon. Better make haste."
Siderius took the keys and opened the entryway to the prison cell.
He went under the ground. There were quite a few guards patrolling around but all of them were quickly subdued by Siderius.
His dark eyes proved extra useful in the darkness of the prison. Siderius extinguished all of the torches and light sources he found on the way.
Soon, he found who he came here for.
There was only one problem, there was no key. The keys to each individual cell were kept by the witch himself.
The Silver Hawk appeared on Siderius’ back and he grabbed it. Siderius swung the sword onto the metal bars. A large ringing sound echoed throughout the prison cell, waking up all the prisoners and also Eli.
Magic flooded out from the prison cell and a magical circle appeared on the metal bars.
"Shit." Siderius mumbled.
Eli’s eyes shot open. "Who’s there?"
"Your savior."
Siderius summoned the silver bracer and used <Dispellera> to temporarily deactivate the magic circle. He then swung the blade onto the rusty metal bars again. This time all of them were cut easily.
Siderius jumped inside the prison cell and cut the chains on Eli loose. He grabbed Eli’s arm and lifted him up.
"It’s time to go. The Outsider sent me."
Eli’s eyes regained their colors.
