Chapter 321: Chapter 321: The Long Road

Siderius rushed out of The Hallow Lands and came to the border of Eldoria. He quickly noticed a camp set up by Ashe and Jude by the side of the road. The smoke column reached high to the ground.

"Prrrr. Slow down, boy." Siderius said to Red. The horse slowed its feet.

Ashe stood up in joy. "Master! You’ve returned!"

Siderius jumped down from Red. "Of course I will return. I have told you that I would, haven’t I?"

"Yes, Master." Ashe couldn’t contain her wide smile.

Jude was sleeping on the driver’s seat of his cart with his chin resting on his hand. He lifted his head up when he heard their conversation.

"Back already, huh? Did Hallolass give you any trouble?"

"He wouldn’t be giving us any trouble now."

Jude’s brow furrowed. "You... killed him?"

Siderius nodded.

"That isn’t wise. The power in the North is very balanced. If he disappeared..."

"There will be chaos, Jude. And I intend to exploit that." Siderius smiled.

Jude stared at the man in front of him. When he first saw Siderius, Siderius was still very young. His frame was small and skinny. Jude was bigger than him.

But he was no longer. Jude’s height was only around Siderius’ shoulder. The hunter was a combination of thick flesh and hardened muscles. They showed up clearly even under all of those armor and clothes.

Siderius’ territory grew fast also. He had all kinds of unique policies that no place else had. The Quest Office. The freedom of choice. The slave ban. And most importantly, a purpose. Everyone in Snowfell wanted to do something and always worked hard toward something.

Contrary from other territories where their hard work took time to bear fruit, hard work in Snowfell was visible instantly. The ranking of soldiers. The reward points from the quests. Free trading and very low, almost obsolete tax.

But they made a profit. A lot of profit.

Now, Jude saw a glimpse of Siderius’ ambition. Siderius killed a lord of the North mercilessly and without hesitation. He wanted more than Snowfell.

This made Jude wonder if the journey to Everia was all Siderius’ plan from the beginning. But he didn’t voice his doubt. Because right now, Siderius was the only hope he had in saving his wife. So he feigned ignorance.

"Should we keep going, or take a rest?" Jude said.

"We should get out of here quickly. We are far from The Long Call but still, we need to make sure they won’t detect us. We can settle down once we get past the border."

"Agree." Jude nodded.

Ashe quickly cleaned up everything. Jude checked up on Caterina. Then they rode again on the long road to Everia. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"The long road of shadow and wind.

The long road of hollow and sting.

I’ve traded my soul for a silver goal

And paid the toll that the dead man called.

My boots are heavy with mud.

My blades are heavy with rust.

I’m chasing a ghost from coast to coast.

In a world that’s forgotten its trust.

So roll on, you grumbly sky.

Don’t ask for the reason why.

For the path that we tread is for men long since dead,

Who never found water to buy.

Just shadow and wind.

Just hollow and sting.

The trees are skinny and dead

With branches like bones overhead.

The timber is brittle and grey.

The sun has all turned away.

I’m walking alone through a valley of bone

With a heart that has turned into stone.

So roll on, you grumbly sky.

Don’t ask for the reason why.

For the path that we tread is for men long since dead,

Who never found water to buy.

Just shadow and wind.

Just hollow and sting.

The long road of shadow and wind.

The long road of hollow and sting."

Siderius mumbled an old tune from his world.

Jude turned over to him. "Haunting tune."

Siderius shrugged. "Just an old traveler’s song."

Jude chuckled. The group continued to aim for the border. They picked a small narrow path that went through the Northern Rottin Woods. It didn’t go over any town and allowed them to slip into Everia unnoticed.

They set their foot on Everia the following week.

Siderius opened up a map that he had received from Quinlan. "Alright. From here, all we need is to go to a small town called Needle Wood. My friend has some men there that can lead us to him."

"Guide the way." Jude nodded.

The group went on for another half day before entering Needle Wood. However, there was something happening.

Needle Wood was a small town with less than fifty households. It was one of the smallest towns directly facing Eldoria.

When they got there, all of the villagers were being rounded up in the town square with a warrior in a makeshift suit of armor standing in the front.

Apart from him, there were also a few other warriors with swords.

"What should we do with them, boss?" A warrior said.

The leader bit an apple then threw it into the mud. "Kill all men. Keep the pretty women."

"What about the children?"

"I told you, didn’t I? Kill all men. Keep the pretty women."

"Understood."

The villagers roared in fear. A male villager tried to run for his life. A warrior pulled out his sword. A faint energy wrapped around his blade. He struck the villager down in one strike, cutting him in half.

"Stay the fuck still!" He shouted.

The villagers didn’t stay still and instead were in even more panic. They rushed in all directions, hoping they would be the lucky ones to get away.

The warriors raised their sword and activated their spirit power.

An arrow flew through the air and went through the neck of a warrior, killing him instantly.

The warriors stopped and turned.

Siderius sat on his horse with his arms still stretched out after shooting his bow. He had the iron mask on.

All the warriors regrouped. The leader stood in front of them. They might not know who Siderius was. But they could see his very well made armor.

He’s rich. And most of the time, it also meant he’s very powerful.

"I am the bannerman of House Argentius! Who the hell are you?" The leader shouted.

Siderius jumped down from Red. Silver Hawk appeared behind his back as he grabbed it.

"The name is Nyx. Unfortunately, I can’t allow you to continue."
