I Am Your Natural Enemy-Chapter 626 - 244: The Outcasts in the City, Simple Methods (5k)_2
Along the way, Wen Yan encountered several non-human beings, but they were all registered with the Scorching Sun Department, holding proper jobs or running legitimate businesses.
He made his way into an urban village, and this time Tong Si didn't say anything. Just sensing the aura here, he knew there were two more of the Different Races inside.
Wen Yan's destination was right here as well.
He found a parking spot and parked the car, luckily it was working hours, so there were still spaces available.
Inside the clinic, the receptionist girl scurried over to find Doctor Meng on her short little legs.
"Doctor Meng, you'd better run, there's a Ghost out there, and it's the kind that can show up in the city in broad daylight—no way that's a simple character."
The receptionist was a bit nervous. After messing with one Ghost, it hadn't been long before someone already came knocking.
Doctor Meng opened the window and glanced outside. When he saw a Ghost, his expression turned grave—even though this Ghost was clearly not the one he'd encountered before.
But when he looked again and saw Wen Yan getting out of the car, he let out a sigh of relief.
Zhuge Wanjun had sent him Wen Yan's photo, had told him Wen Yan would be coming to take over.
Since he was staying in Yu State, of course he'd heard of Wen Yan. He'd received guests from the Scorching Sun Department before, and their ringtone was Minister Cai's goofy recording.
He was stunned and even asked about it specifically, only to find out there was such a badass in Nanwu County—someone who could piss off Minister Cai into drinking cold tea every day, and even dared to call him Cai Heizi to his face.
Just… why is it always someone from the Scorching Sun Department...
Doctor Meng went downstairs and waited at the door to greet them.
Wen Yan was easy-going, reaching out to shake hands as soon as they met.
"Wen Yan."
"Meng An."
"Relax, Doctor Meng. I'm not with the Scorching Sun Department anymore; I only helped them out as a temp before. I've already returned even that temporary expert badge."
Hearing this, Meng An did visibly relax a lot.
His dealings with the Scorching Sun Department had always been just doctor and client. He didn't want to get involved with them over a case.
Leading Wen Yan to the second floor, Meng An took him to see the still-sleeping Lu Jing. Wen Yan didn't see anything strange, nor did he sense any clues.
He wasn't surprised though—he'd already half expected this. He glanced back at the silent Tong Si following behind.
"Did you notice anything?"
"Nothing special. There isn't even much Yin Qi on this person. Trying to track down that Ghost through her might be difficult."
Wen Yan took another glance, thought it over, and immediately gave up on normal investigative methods.
He turned to Meng An and smiled.
"I heard that Ghost is crazy, huh?"
"Yeah. I haven't seen such an arrogant Ghost in a long time."
"So, I have two plans.
One is the standard route, getting Scorching Sun Department folks to help investigate and crack the case.
The other one is…"
"I pick the second one." Before Wen Yan could even finish, Meng An immediately chose the latter without hesitation.
"..." Wen Yan was speechless.
The Scorching Sun Department's reputation isn't that bad, is it? I mean, yeah, they've taken out a bunch of Different Races and Ghosts, but they usually can't be bothered with the law-abiding peaceful ones. If anything, the legit ones even got tax breaks a few years back.
"I haven't even said what the second plan is."
"Doesn't matter, I still pick the second one."
"Alright then. The second plan is a little more direct and rough, but I'll need you to cooperate."
"You tell me what to do, I'll follow your lead." Meng An was very decisive.
He'd already ticked off that Ghost, and with how insane that Ghost was, he'd for sure hold a grudge. Who knows when it'd come for him?
Like the saying goes: you can dodge a spear in the open, but not an arrow in the dark. Having to look out for a Ghost who even dared to mess with college students in the city… how was he supposed to live peacefully?
With Wen Yan personally coming over, he'd bet anything Wen Yan was here to finish off that Ghost for good.
So of course Meng An would fully cooperate.
The main thing—Wen Yan said he wasn't with the Scorching Sun Department, but eight or nine times out of ten, they definitely knew about this.
As long as he wasn't working directly with Scorching Sun Department people, Meng An felt zero pressure.
And Meng An's willingness to cooperate made Wen Yan very comfortable, so he laid out his plan.
"I'd wanted to enter the dream with you, but then I thought, that Ghost has probably seen me before; if he sees me in there and bolts, he'll be impossible to catch afterwards.
But he's definitely seen you, and you've already given him a beating in the dream world, and he's still so cocky.
So why don't you go in again and try to provoke him, maybe lure him over if we're lucky.
If we can settle this tonight, all the better.
If you can't lure him out, then at least get his name.
If we can close this chapter quickly, you can go back to business as usual.
And I get to go home and actually eat dinner.
So? Too hard?"
Meng An thought for a moment, then shook his head.
"Shouldn't be too difficult. I'll give it a try."
Meng An looked over at the still-sleeping Lu Jing.
"It's just that I only ate her dream a moment ago. Not sure if there's anything left."
"Give it a shot. If you can piss him off and lure him out here, great. At the very least, we need his name, or maybe even just a bit of his Power as a lead—otherwise we can't resolve this quickly."
"Got it." Meng An walked to the bedside and closed his eyes.
With his eyes closed and re-opened, he manifested his true Dream Tapir form in the mist, and a new dream bubble appeared before him.
Everything inside the bubble was building up quickly. This was a brand-new dream world.
Meng An entered the dream bubble, standing on a rural path. It was all desolate around him; the ground was sprouting buildings at high speed, trees growing fast out of the soil, the whole world loading up like it was still buffering.
