I Am Your Natural Enemy-Chapter 640 - 249: Progressing the Schedule, Ghost with an Uncertain Death (5k)
Wen Yan looked at Feng Yao and sighed.
"After Cai Heizi is gone, he's somewhat of a successor. Just look at you—you're almost turning into another Cai Heizi."
"That's not the right way to put it; I'm not dark at all," Feng Yao said. "This should be phrased differently: Guihai Yidong has come to work for you. Based on current trends, the main structure is actually the simplest and fastest part. As long as enough materials are provided, he can get it done within a week. But once the main framework is complete, the subsequent work is the most troublesome and time-consuming. He has to oversee all of that. Since he's working for you here, you at least have to ensure his personal safety, right? There's nothing wrong with that, is there?"
"Indeed, there's nothing wrong with that," Wen Yan nodded.
"Then that's settled! Your basement is definitely spacious enough, sturdy, and adequate," Feng Yao declared, his spirit soaring. "Once the main structure is built, we'll take care of the renovations too.
"Additionally, we'll take the lead in running an electrical line for you, and we'll cover your electricity costs.
"Whatever furniture, appliances, and various equipment you want afterward, we'll provide it all for you.
"Plus, all the things needed for the plumbing and drainage system and its subsequent maintenance—we've got all that covered too. We'll even count in a bed and a four-piece linen set for you.
"How does that sound?"
Wen Yan cupped his hands in a salute.
"Alright, alright. Just pretend I didn't say anything and know nothing, okay?"
A space as large as a soccer field on each level, sectioned off, and then add interior finishing, decorations, and all sorts of miscellaneous things... It would probably cost more than building the main structure itself.
And it's not just one level, but three.
Honestly, Wen Yan didn't even need to do a budget to know he couldn't afford it.
He had originally just wanted a slightly larger basement. It wouldn't need much finishing—just some tiling, a layer of plaster on the walls, and a coat of latex paint. As for wiring, just running a line down the corner of the wall for a single outlet to plug in a dehumidifier would have been enough. He hadn't even considered plumbing at all.
But now, this man with the Innate Civil Engineering Holy Body—terrifyingly efficient as he was—had carved out such a huge space in just a few days, all without Wen Yan spending a dime. Wen Yan couldn't possibly be so unprincipled as to refuse.
Regardless of Feng Yao's ulterior motives, Guihai Yidong was working on his property, so Wen Yan naturally couldn't stand by and watch him come to harm.
What would have been a joyfully ignorant situation had been tainted because that damn Feng Yao just had to spell it all out.
"If something like this happens again, don't tell me. Let my happiness remain untarnished." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"That won't do. If it happens again, I'll definitely tell you. If it concerns you, I can't keep it from you. Otherwise, you'll give me another nickname."
"You're already Cai Heizi the Second! You haven't learned anything good from him, only how to be a Heizi, and you learned that fast enough!"
Wen Yan was truly disheartened. The Feng Yao who used to be a frontline support—how had he turned into 'Feng Heizi' in just a few short months?
Feng Yao chuckled awkwardly, looking rather sheepish.
"I truly didn't do this intentionally. I really did arrange for Guihai Yidong to come work at your place first, and only then did the subsequent plans come about."
"Ah, yes, yes. I believe you. Really."
"I'm telling the truth!"
"I didn't say you weren't."
Wen Yan couldn't be bothered to argue with Feng Yao about it. Whatever you say, you're right.
Feng Yao's attitude shifted slightly. He really didn't want to hear one day that he had a new nickname: 'Feng Heizi'.
"Alright, alright, I'm going to practice my boxing. Don't worry, he won't die while he's here."
Feng Yao chased after him, still trying to explain things clearly, but Wen Yan had already reached the backyard. With a low shout from Wen Yan, a sound like a clap of thunder exploded beside Feng Yao's ears.
A Gray Cloth, like a coiling snake, shot forward with a powerful gust of wind, WHOOSH, and wrapped around Wen Yan's body.
Feng Yao sighed and turned to leave.
As he passed by, he saw the Steward washing a tomato and handing it to Little Zombie. When they both looked over, Feng Yao quickly said, "Wen Yan misunderstands me a bit. Please, believe me and help me talk some sense into him."
Little Zombie, clutching the tomato, stared with wide eyes, nodding repeatedly and whimpering softly.
The Steward beamed, his smile sincere and friendly, like that of a top-tier flight attendant instructor.
"Rest assured, Sir is just teasing you. There's no need to take it to heart."
Listening to him, Feng Yao felt as if the Steward genuinely believed it.
Feng Yao walked out the main gate, sighing helplessly.
He couldn't shake the feeling that the Steward was being sarcastic, and even Little Zombie seemed to be picking up Wen Yan's sarcastic ways.
He glanced back. Little Zombie had its two tiny fangs embedded in the tomato, sucking out the juice, looking utterly adorable and innocent.
A sudden wave of guilt washed over him. Was he really becoming more like Cai Heizi?
Now, even looking at Little Zombie made him think it was starting to pick up bad habits.
Feng Yao's expression flickered. He sighed deeply, beginning to doubt himself.
He drove away. Little Zombie withdrew its gaze.
On the sofa, Sparrow Cat, who had its rear end facing outwards, rolled over and shot Little Zombie a sidelong glance.
"Remember, that fellow is no good either. Don't believe everything he says."
Little Zombie nodded repeatedly, whimpering softly.
Sparrow Cat's eyes widened at this.
"Do you actually believe him or not? Were you just placating him earlier, and now you're trying to placate me too?"
The Steward's practiced smile finally broke, and he burst out laughing.
The little one didn't need to worry about such things, because it hadn't really paid any attention to what anyone was saying.
Amidst the lively chatter in the house, Wen Yan continued practicing his boxing in the backyard.
Inside the tightly wrapped Gray Cloth, fervent Yang Energy was forcibly compressed.
