I Awakened An Outer God Class-Chapter 32: Evil Spirits [4]
Mikhail walked on the empty streets of 13th Street as he noticed the tall buildings of Nero Middle School of Arts.
He turned his hand around to look at the time on his watch. It was just five minutes before six.
’I really came, huh...’
He thought to himself with a light sigh.
Mikhail really hated being in the same vicinity as a supposed ghost but he couldn’t give up on the knowledge.
’If I know how to perform exorcism then I don’t have to fear them.’ He thought, straightening his back. ’In fact it should be them who fear me.’ 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
He got the little confidence he needed to walk towards the main gate of the school.
At the entrance, a man wearing a vintage hat stood along with the security guard.
Daniel puffed his lungs as he took in the smoke of the cigarette, his eyes on Mikhail who walked closer.
He smiled and said. "You really came."
’I didn’t want to.’ Mikhail grumbled inwardly but still forced himself to smile. "I became your assistant to learn."
Daniel gave a short nod and looked at the guard who was glancing back at the school with a frightened look on his face.
"We will be back in an hour." Daniel instructed him, picking up the suitcase he had brought. "Don’t let anyone inside."
The guard nodded and gulped audibly. "Be safe, sir."
He opened the gate, prompting Daniel and Mikhail to walk inside the eerie school.
’Why is he so afraid?’ Mikhail wondered, glancing back at the guard. ’Did he encounter the ghost or what?’
Mikhail found the reasoning acceptable as the guard might have noticed something during his night duty.
"There have been voices of crying in the night." Daniel said, confirming his analysis. "The cry of children begging for help."
Mikhail nodded his head slightly as they walked inside the main building.
The school had three buildings in total which were adjacent to each other. The walls were painted grey and white — the standard for all schools in the City of Sparrows.
The first building they entered was the one in the centre, illuminated by dim light.
There was an uncomfortable silence in the place while the occasional sound of birds echoed through.
Daniel, quick to respond, placed the suitcase down and opened it.
Inside were a lot of items that Mikhail recognised.
"I had gone through the records and deaths related to the school in the last six months."
Daniel spoke, taking out the ornaments, flowers, herbs and some silver plates.
"In just six months, ten people have died who were students of this school."
Mikhail’s scalp turned numb as he understood the severity of the situation.
"How did it not get into the headlines?" He asked, his voice soft. "I saw nothing about this in the news."
"The school authority suppressed the news to protect their image." He replied quietly. "They did not care about who died or not."
Mikhail rubbed the back of his neck and asked. "Anything common in those deaths?"
"Yes." Daniel replied. "They all died by suicide."
He stood up and made Mikhail undo the tangled red threads he had brought. "The students had some sort of attachment with the school, that’s why they are haunting this place."
Mikhail straightened the piece of thread and asked. "Wouldn’t it be better for the church to handle such cases?"
"Don’t you know the law of the church?" Daniel asked with a smile.
Mikhail nodded in sudden realisation and recited the line from all three holy books. "Humans who kill themselves are actively straying away from the deity."
Mikhail knew about it because all three churches had aggressively pushed the ideology.
There were even rules that if one failed to kill themselves they would spend years rotting in prison.
’So, did the church refuse to bless those students’ souls, causing them to become evil spirits?’
Daniel took the red thread from him and wrapped it around the three silver plates.
"We don’t understand what the students might be attached to...." He said, his voice soft. "So we are going to attract them to one place before doing the ritual."
Mikhail blinked as Daniel made him hold all three of the silver plates.
"Go to the terrace." He instructed. "And spread all three plates in a way that creates a triangle over the school. Be careful not to break the thread."
Mikhail stammered in reply. "D-do I have to?"
"Yes." He replied firmly. "If you want to go home early then start moving."
Mikhail bit his lip and turned on his heels before walking towards the staircase.
He quickly began to climb as his mind wandered back to the conversation.
’I still don’t understand why would the students commit suicide?’
The average age of middle school students would be around 11 to 14.
Mikhail couldn’t understand what could force them to kill themselves.
’Exams can’t be that hard....’ He thought grimly. ’...Perhaps they were influenced by someone?’
Lost in his own thoughts, Mikhail reached the top of the building and opened the door.
The chill wind made him shiver like his body was being invaded by something.
Mikhail quickly placed the first silver plate at the top before he unwound the red thread.
He kept on walking towards the adjacent building and at the end of the roof, placed the second plate.
Baam!!
The door through which Mikhail had walked in slammed shut, making him jump in fright.
’What? The fuck? What happened?’
He looked at the door which was slowly moving back to its original position and his heart shivered.
’Everything is alright, it was just the wind—!’
Baam!!
The door slammed again, making him run towards the next building like a madman.
’I was fucking stupid to come to this accursed place!?’
Mikhail cursed and quickly placed the third plate in the desired position.
He rushed towards the staircase and walked down carefully.
’I have seen enough times in movies how some idiot breaks their neck because they rushed too fast!!’
Mikhail quickly reached the ground floor and immediately ran to where Daniel was.
He only let out a sigh of relief when he saw Daniel sitting on the ground with his suitcase.
"Done!" Mikhail said, catching his breath. "And I think the spirits are not happy with our presence."
Daniel chuckled. "I know."
He quickly closed his eyes and opened the cap of a small bottle.
Daniel gulped down its contents in one go and in an instant his entire eyes turned black.
