I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s-Chapter 723 - 722: Kicked Out
Jiang Mingzhong accepted Beisitian’s proposal to join her on the trip to Beijing without hesitation, as he no longer had any attachments.
With a plan in place, Jiang Mingzhong did not go to headquarters the next day but instead visited an old friend.
This friend had helped him even after he had fallen on hard times.
Since she planned to stay until the end of the banquet, Beisitian didn’t want to stay in a hotel indefinitely and contacted Ma Tianlai, who sent someone overnight to make arrangements.
The earliest they could move into the villa would be tonight, but they would have to check out before noon if they left, so the plan was to stay one more night and move in the next morning.
Beisitian hadn’t mentioned this to Jiang Mingzhong and the others yet.
Beisitian went out with Tian Zhi, intending to visit Yun Xiao and his wife, as Madam Yun frequently visited Mrs. Cheng’s home due to Cheng Tianji’s treatment, which made them familiar with each other.
Since they were in Jinbei City, it wouldn’t be appropriate not to visit.
Unfortunately, Yun Xiao was at a meeting, and Madam Yun was visiting a friend.
"May I ask for your names so that I can inform the lady when she returns?" the courteous servant of the Yun Family residence said.
"Just say that Beisitian is here to visit with her apprentice," Beisitian said before leaving with Tian Zhi.
"Master, I’ve heard that Jinbei City has many special snacks. Since we’re here and just waiting to return, why not take a look around?" Tian Zhi suggested.
Beisitian smiled, "Why not? We haven’t gained much else, but we’ve tried quite a few local snacks."
Tian Zhi laughed heartily, "That’s true."
While buying water at a convenience store, he managed to find out about Jinbei City’s specialty snacks and their locations.
Tian Zhi hailed a car, as taxis here mimicked Beijing’s style, using small vans as taxis, sometimes picking up several passengers at once.
The two of them took a taxi to an area near the snack city. No vehicles, not even bicycles, were allowed inside as it was a pedestrian street.
So, they had to walk there.
Chatting and laughing, Beisitian and Tian Zhi headed over when a woman walking towards them bumped into Beisitian’s shoulder, catching her off guard and causing her to stagger a bit.
The woman seemed to only then realize she had bumped into someone and turned back to say to Beisitian, "I’m sorry."
Seeing the woman’s tear-stained face, Beisitian didn’t say much, assuming she was preoccupied and not watching her way.
While thinking this, the woman suddenly said, "I’m sorry, could you lend me some money? I haven’t eaten since yesterday..."
Beisitian and Tian Zhi exchanged glances, considering recent reports of people scamming under the pretense of needing travel money. Could they have encountered such a person?
If she was indeed such a person, they would catch on.
"If you’re hungry, why not join us for a meal?" Beisitian suggested.
If she was merely out to scam them, she would likely refuse at this point.
"May I?"
"Of course."
So Beisitian and Tian Zhi took the unknown woman along to explore the snack city...
The woman followed behind Beisitian and Tian Zhi, her attention never on them or the surrounding eateries. If Beisitian had been up to no good, the woman might only realize something was wrong after getting into the car.
"What would you like to eat?" Beisitian asked twice before the woman reacted.
"Anything’s fine. I’ll eat whatever you have, as long as it fills me up," the woman’s voice was a bit hoarse, as if she’d been crying.
Her hair hung loosely around her, and she kept her head down, so Beisitian and Tian Zhi still hadn’t seen her face clearly.
Tian Zhi felt a bit exasperated, as dealing with women, including his master, wasn’t his strong suit.
Eventually, the three of them sat down in a small braised burnet shop. The place was tiny but crowded, promising decent food.
They waited over ten minutes for a spot before seating themselves, giving Beisitian a chance to finally see the woman’s face.
She looked about eighteen or nineteen, not exactly beautiful but fair and lovely, leaving a lasting impression.
Once seated, the girl seemed to regain her senses too and said to Beisitian and Tian Zhi, "Thank you for helping me."
"It’s nothing, just head home after eating," Beisitian advised.
The girl’s expression darkened upon hearing this, and she sighed. Just when Beisitian thought she wouldn’t speak again, the girl opened her mouth.
"If your family was giving you away as a gift to someone to gain benefits, would you still go back?" the girl asked quietly.
Tian Zhi frowned, as the girl’s question wasn’t exactly delightful.
Beisitian saw the girl’s glazed, somewhat hollow eyes, realizing she wasn’t intentionally making such a metaphor. She seemed utterly lost, unable to choose her words carefully.
"No," Beisitian answered bluntly.
The girl rested her head on the table as if exhausted, "I don’t plan to go back either. Returning means being handed over to that beast. I don’t want to live a caged life."
Beisitian and Tian Zhi said no more. Regardless of her decision, they would only be together for the length of a meal before parting ways forever, so they refrained from probing into the girl’s matters.
Clearly, the girl had no intention of sharing more, merely dazing off on the table, not caring about the oil stains left uncleaned.
The braised burnet soon arrived, and the girl, evidently ravenous, ate quickly and urgently.
After the meal, she stood up, ignoring the looks from others, gave a deep bow to Beisitian and Tian Zhi, "Thank you for the meal, I’m leaving now."
Seeing Beisitian nod, the girl briskly exited the restaurant, disappearing into the crowd.
Beisitian initially had little impression of the girl but found newfound admiration for her due to her bow.
The girl dared to pursue what she wanted, decisive and composed, a personality Beisitian found appealing.
After finishing their meal, Beisitian and Tian Zhi indulged in some desserts and tea beverages at the snack city before heading back.
At the business hotel entrance, they observed a crowd seemingly watching some commotion. Though not usually keen on such scenes, the crowd blocked their path.
Tian Zhi pushed through to see what was happening. Standing tall, he quickly saw Jiang Xin, flushed and standing at the door.
Next to Jiang Xin were many suitcases, including some scattered clothes, theirs, and Beisitian’s among them.
A bad feeling welled in Tian Zhi’s heart. He forced his way through the crowd to Jiang Xin’s side, asking, "What’s going on?"
Seeing Tian Zhi, Jiang Xin seemed to find a backbone, "We, we were kicked out of the hotel. They said we couldn’t pay the bill. It was, it was that woman named Guan Baoyun’s doing!"
