I Became The Academy’s Blind Swordsman-Chapter 11: First Class (1)
Chapter 11: First Class (1)
It took a while but it’s finally here. The schedule will be 5 chapters/week Monday-Friday.
No matter what I said to her after the Veleshanas story, I never got a response from Aizel.
We ate that day and went our separate ways.
‘Was Veleshanas connected with Aizel?’
It wasn’t, at least not in the game that I remember.
I wondered if I should visit Veleshanas sometime, but the area around Veleshanas itself is on a very peaceful axis.
The only mention of it in the game is that it has a lot of tourists because of its beautiful emerald beaches. It didn’t seem like a place where anything special could happen.
‘There’s something about Veleshanas, but… I can’t quite put my finger on it.’
A day later, it was time for my first class.
I had already made eye contact with Yuri and Aizel, but neither of them had spoken to me.
To my left, Aizel was leaning against a tree, watching the birds, and to my right, Yuri was off to the side, giving off an aura that made me feel like she would kill anyone who touched her.
In order to get close to them, I talked to them and tried to increase my favorability, but as a result, this happened.
“No, who the hell is the instructor in charge of Class A, and why is the first class outdoors?”
“Rumor has it that it’s one of those ‘black bloods’?”
“Then… maybe instructor Reina?”
“I prefer instructor Kaliman, who is a martial artist just like me.”
The cadets were all talking about their first class or their instructors.
‘There’s only one guy who would do this.’
It was already certain that Edward Klaus was the instructor in charge of Class A.
What the hell was he trying to do this time?
When I arrived at the A classroom where the first lesson was supposed to take place, the door was locked and there was a terse message on the door asking to meet in the back of the academy.
I dutifully followed, asking the Class A cadets who were standing around what was going on. Among them was Amon, who frowned when he saw me, but he didn’t challenge me today.
Before I knew it, the entire A class had gathered in the clearing, 16 cadets in all, and the talks about the instructor were getting louder.
“I see you’re all here now. I’ve been bored waiting for you, but you’re not late…Not really, so let’s move on.”
Edward appeared from nowhere, glancing at his wristwatch.
“What?”
“Who’s that? The instructor?”
“I know it’s not Kaliman or Reina.”
“I didn’t see him at the entrance ceremony…”
The reaction from the cadets had a strong “who is that?” vibe to it and for good reason.
The Three Black Bloods were, after all, nicknamed by those who fought in the war. Those who didn’t participate in the war might recognize the Black Bloods, but not the Three.
Edward, one of the Three Black Bloods, was not known due to the nature of his unit.
His reputation was known only by those in the know.
Given Edward’s skills and personality, it was all part of the fact that he wasn’t the type to care about fame.
Edward’s existence was unfamiliar for cadets who had never been to war. What they were more familiar with was the Three Black Bloods…
“Good morning, cadets. I’m Edward Klaus, your instructor for Class A.”
“If it’s Klaus…”
“The principal’s name is Juliut Klaus.”
“Son of the principal?”
He was the son of the principal.
‘This is just the way it is.’
Even for me, when I first encountered the hidden instructor named Edward Klaus in the game, my first thought was “parachute”.
It was a natural reaction but Edward keeps his smile on his face and continues.
“I’m sure my name is unfamiliar to everyone and I know you’re thinking all sorts of things, like who is he, what does he do?”
Edward, who continued to talk suddenly applauded loudly
“…So today, we’re going to spend some time getting to know each other better.”
The cadets’ faces grew blank as they listened to Edward’s unintelligible words.
“Class A cadets, you are a remarkable group, aren’t you?”
Edward says, looking at each of the cadets in front of him.
“Some of you were born into prestigious families and grew up drinking expensive elixirs from an early age. Some of you were gifted with great talent from birth and have come to this position with ease. Some of you have worked tirelessly to the bone and have earned the honor of Class A.”
Edward pauses at the end of that statement.
“However. Just because you’re in Class A doesn’t mean you’re the strongest.”
Edward’s meaningful words are followed by a heavy pause.
“It just means you got stronger a little earlier than everyone else, which means you can be caught up at any time by the very people you’ve been secretly looking down on.”
Edward’s words were enough to offend the high-nosed Class A students.
‘That’s not wrong.’
Class A is favored everywhere at Innocence Academy. They get better dorms, better rooms, and better meals. If you don’t have money, they’ll pay for your living expenses.
The same is true outside the academy.
Even outside of the academy, the general public perceives Class A students as amazing people. This is a huge motivator for the cadets below them.
Because of this, it was quite common for cadets to switch classes in the exams that were held every semester.
“Huh. On the subject of parachutes.”
A rather harsh voice comes from the group of cadets. I recognize the gruff voice as Amon’s.
Despite the insult, the smile on Edward’s face refused to fade. In fact, the corners of his mouth turn up even higher.
Edward shrugged off Amon’s comment and continued with his story.
“How come the Class A cadets, who are supposed to be so great, have to be eaten by the back runners? I don’t like it either.”
Edward shrugged, really shrugged.
“If that’s what you cadets think… I’m going to try and create a ‘perfect A’ class this time, one that’s second to none, and to do that, I’m going to have to gauge your level first.”
This is where his ramblings begin.
“But I don’t like to be bothered. Why go in circles? There’s a very simple way to do it.”
Before we know it, he’s rambling on and on, and he’s extending his index finger to the cadets.
“I need all the cadets in Class A to give me, Edward Klaus, their full attention from now on.”
Most of the cadets look confused at his next statement.
“…Instructor. You mean that all of us will have to fight you?”
Amon thought Edward was ignoring them and a few of the cadets seemed to agree with him.
“You dirtbag, you still don’t know the Innocence Academy, do you? The instructors here are anything but ordinary.”
Surprisingly, Yuri had a good grasp of the situation and continued to summarize the current situation.
Right now, we can only hope that he’s a ‘parachute’ like you just suggested. If he’s not… then… there’s no way we’re going to win.”
Glancing at Amon, Yuri spoke in a somewhat harsh tone.
“Instructor Edwards, I have one question for you. Do we really have to ‘win’ against you?”
Yuri asked Edward and his smile grew more sinister at her question.
“Was my expectation for the cadets too high? You’re talking too much. You have to fight for it, right now.”
“Of course.”
Yuri held her hand out in front of her, casting a fire spell. The most powerful magic she could cast in the early game.
It was about as powerful as an awakening or a special move with the longest cooldown in the game.
“Phoenix.”
A giant flame in the shape of a phoenix rises from the huge magic circle in front of Yuri’s palm. The searing heat caused the surrounding cadets to quickly step back and I do the same.
The flames in the form of a phoenix flap their wings and fly toward Edward.
Just as the phoenix is about to touch Edward, his form quickly disappears.
“…Huh?”
Edward reappeared right behind Yuri.
“…!”
I realized it faster than anyone else and immediately drew my sword and lunged at Edward… but… Edward’s swift and concise movements were fluid and drawn like a painting.
ㅡPush!!!
…It’s too late to react.
Yuri’s head, decapitated by Edward’s dagger from some unknown source, is separated from his body and sent flying.
Yuri’s… Yuri Clementine’s red hair flies through the air, splattered with thick blood.
At that moment I froze in place, no longer moving.
“What the hell…”
“Is she dead?”
“What the f*ck?”
The cadets screamed around me; they were in complete panic. Some cadets fainted, others vomited.
“I told you, come at me with the intent to kill.”
Edward said, wiping the blood off his dagger.
“Ugh!”
Suddenly, sparks flew from one side.
“Then, die.”
Aizel sees this, too, and charges at Edward.
Edward and Aizel exchange blows at a speed that the eye cannot keep up with. However, even the strongest Aizel is struck down by his dagger.
“Pow!”
Edward’s dagger plunges deep into Aizel’s heart.
“Cadet Aizel… You’re too slow.”
“Ugh…Ugh…”
Aizel twists and turns with the dagger in her heart until she finally collapses in a puddle of blood.
“Haa…”
I sighed heavily at the unreality of it all. Despite the urgency of the situation, there was no tension in my attitude.
It was because all my tension has been relieved quickly since I noticed it. Instead, I let out a weak laugh.
“Since when, Edward Klaus…”
‘Since when?’
“Since when did you put an illusion spell on me?”
Edward was Edward.
‘He’s been checking the cadets’ level using illusion magic since the first class…’
His abusive teaching methods were still as vicious as they were in the game.
