Shen Nian looked up at her coldly and did not move. “I’ll call someone in.”

“Alright.” The light in Cheng Mu’s eyes dimmed for a moment. She nodded slightly and did not say anything else. Please visit 𝐟𝒓𝚎𝘦we𝐛𝐧𝐨vℯ𝚕. c𝘰m

Shen Nian frowned and relaxed. He raised his hand to open the door of the ward, but he did not close it tightly. He stood outside the door and gave a few instructions to the nursing aide before walking back to her bed. “You were in a deep sleep, so I didn’t wake you up. I didn’t know what you would like to eat, so I asked the nutritionist at home to prepare a meal and send it over. If you’re not used to the food, I’ll call home and ask them to cook another one.”

Cheng Mu’s eyes, which had just darkened, lit up again. She nodded with a smile and said, “Okay! I’m sure I’ll like whatever you’ve ordered!”

She did not know what was the matter with herself. She was disappointed when Shen Nian spoke to her dismissively, and instantly composed and happy again when he thought of her.

She only knew that at some point, Shen Nian had become in control her emotions. She naively thought that whatever she did to please Shen Nian would also please her. If he could reciprocate and show some concern for her, she would be twice as happy.

Cheng Mu happily finished dinner with Shen Nian. She took her medicine under his careful watch before lying back on the bed to rest.

When Cheng Luo arrived, it was already eight o’clock in the evening. He only sat for a while before leaving. During this time, Shen Yin called Shen Nian to ask about the situation. Then, the ward grew quiet again, and the two of them were left alone.

When it was time to sleep, Shen Nian refused to squeeze on the same bed as her. He used the foldable bed next to hers.

Cheng Mu was really a little scared. She kept trying to find topics to keep the conversation going, hoping she could fall asleep immediately. However, she had slept for too long that afternoon, and the more she talked, the more alert she grew. Even the moonlight reflected in the window had grown dim, but she still did not feel sleepy at all.

Bored, Cheng Mu turned over and faced Shen Nian. She suddenly asked, “Is your father planning to deal with Cui Hao’s family?”

Shen Nian was not asleep either. He opened his round eyes in the dark and replied expressionlessly, “So what if he is?”

Cheng Mu pursed her lips into a straight line and subconsciously drew circles on the pillow. “Actually, before I became friends with you, I had a good relationship with Cui Hao. I even went to his house. His parents were very good to me and always bought me delicious food.”

“So?” Shen Nian’s voice grew stern.

Cheng Mu was so nervous that she could hear her heart thumping in the quiet room, but she braced herself and tried to dissuade him. “W-would you consider letting his family off, and dealing only with Cui Hao? I won’t care what you do to him. He should bear the consequences for his mistake.”

Shen Nian narrowed his eyes and turned to look at the conflicted girl on the next bed. His tone was one of extreme indifference. “I’ve already told my father that I’ll settle this matter myself. I won’t involve his parents.”

“That’s good.” Cheng Mu heaved a sigh of relief. A huge weight had been lifted off her chest, and she felt sleepy. She yawned, and her eyes watered. “Then I’m going to sleep. Good night, Nian Nian.”

“Mm.” Shen Nian coolly turned his back on her, but his eyes were frosty.

The next morning, Shen Nian broke away from Cheng Mu’s attempts to stop him from going to school. He stayed behind to play with her for awhile, then went to school with a cold face.

Cui Hao had been severely reprimanded by the principal and teachers yesterday. Now, he looked listless. He did not even perk up when he saw Shen Nian enter. He just kept glancing behind him.

Shen Nian sneered and did not say anything. He sat obediently in the first row and listened to the lesson.

In between classes, Cui Hao finally could not stand it anymore and came over. He frowned and asked in a hostile tone, “Where’s Cheng Mu? Why are you the only one in class this morning?”

Shen Nian looked up at him indifferently and did not answer.

Guan Hong, the boy with the buzz cut who followed Cui Hao’s lead, immediately glared unhappily. “You brat, my brother is talking to you. Can’t you hear him?”

Shen Nian put away his things coldly and smiled coolly. “You want to know? Then roll down the stairs and I’ll tell you.”

“What are you talking about!” Guan Hong rolled up his sleeves angrily and prepared to teach Shen Nian a lesson like yesterday.

Cui Hao hurriedly stopped him and scolded coldly, “Are you stupid? Last night, the school installed surveillance cameras in all the blind spots. Do you want to be expelled?”

Guan Hong always followed Cui Hao’s lead. He put down his hand awkwardly and pointed fiercely at Shen Nian’s nose. “Kid, I’ll teach you a lesson when you leave the school!”

Since he could not do it inside the school, he would settle it outside the school. Surely Shen Nian had to leave the school some time!

Cui Hao also felt that this method was feasible. There was a hint of smugness in his gloomy eyes. “If you know what’s good for you, tell me which hospital Mu Mu is in. Otherwise, I’m not sure what the others will do to you.”
