I Became the Eye Candy: Four Bigshots Claimed to be My Dad?-Chapter 137: Hidden Guards Sent Out to Buy Food
Ye Qianning finished a bowl of congee, which only made her mouth feel more bland.
"Dad, I want to eat roast duck."
Xiang Minghou set the bowl down. "You’re just recovering from a serious illness, so you can’t eat anything greasy. Stick to congee for one more day to let your stomach settle. Tomorrow, Dad will get you roast duck."
"Alright." Ye Qianning smacked her lips.
’If only I could have a bowl of hot and sour noodles right now...’
"Young Lady, General." Luo Wen appeared suddenly.
Xiang Minghou was surprised to see Luo Wen.
Ye Qianning’s eyes lit up. "You’re back. Did you get it?"
"Yes, I got it. This is roast duck from Jiangzhou. I brought it back using the storage method you taught me, so it’s still very fresh." Luo Wen handed over the package in his hands.
’Jiangzhou? Roast... roast duck?’
Xiang Minghou was stunned.
Ye Qianning took it. "Excellent. You are dismissed."
"Yes." Luo Wen vanished from the room.
"Young Lady, General." Luo Xuan appeared.
"Did you bring it back?" Ye Qianning asked.
"I have. These are the specialty pig’s trotters from Zhangzhou. As you instructed, Young Lady, I had them made with extra chili." Luo Xuan handed her the oil-paper-wrapped package.
Ye Qianning had been craving something spicy. "Excellent. You are dismissed."
Luo Xuan bowed and withdrew.
"They..."
"Young Lady, General."
Just as Xiang Minghou was about to say something, Du Yi entered.
"The item?"
"Right here. The Chen family’s osmanthus pastries from Fangzhou," Du Yi said.
"Excellent, excellent. When we get back, go to the accounting office to collect your reward." Ye Qianning had been craving these treats, and now they were all here. What perfect timing.
"Yes." Du Yi bowed, overjoyed, and withdrew.
Xiang Minghou felt a knot of anger tighten in his chest, making it hard to breathe. He stared toward the door.
"Dad, what are you looking at?" Ye Qianning asked, looking up. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"Did Du Ying go to buy food too?" Xiang Minghou’s expression was dark.
"No."
"Then where did he go?"
"I sent him to Nine Mountains to buy a broadsword," Ye Qianning said, unwrapping the roast duck. A fragrant aroma immediately filled the air.
"Reckless!" Xiang Minghou shot to his feet and bellowed.
Ye Qianning jumped in fright, looking up at him and blinking.
Xiang Minghou had thought they’d been eliminated, which was why they weren’t by Ye Qianning’s side. He never imagined she had sent them off to such distant cities to buy food. His little girl had almost lost her life.
How could he not be furious?
But when he saw his little girl flinch in fear, he immediately regretted shouting so loudly.
"Is there anything you can’t buy in the Capital City? Why would you send them to cities so far away just for food? Even if you were craving something, you could have sent one person. How could you send all of them away? Don’t you understand? If even one of them had been by your side, you wouldn’t have gone through this!" Xiang Minghou was seething.
Ye Qianning could see her dad was truly angry. She set the package aside. "I know I was wrong, Dad. I won’t do it again. Please don’t be angry."
"The guards I assigned you aren’t for sending out to buy food! They are here to protect you." He had almost lost his little girl forever. How could he not be beside himself with anger?
"I was wrong, Dad. Please, just forgive me this one time," Ye Qianning wheedled, pouting her lips. The expression on her chubby little face might as well have had the three words "I was wrong" stamped on it.
The sight instantly melted his heart. Xiang Minghou sat back down with a sigh, stroking her head with his large hand. "Dad was only angry because I was scared. You have no idea... if anything had happened to you this time, I don’t think I would have the will to live."
"I know. There won’t be a next time," Ye Qianning sniffled.
"As long as you understand." Xiang Minghou’s expression softened somewhat.
With her little hands, Ye Qianning picked up the roast duck again. As she unwrapped it, the fragrant aroma spread. She held it up to Xiang Minghou. "You eat, Dad."
Xiang Minghou replied automatically, "Dad doesn’t want any. This is for Pangtuan to eat."
